During his entire diversified life Archibald MacLeish has been concerned with what America means and what it means to be an American. The Great American Fourth of July Parade is a further sounding on these thoughts. This verse play for radio was the Bicentennial Selection of the International Poetry Forum.

Archibald MacLeish (7 May 1892 – 20 April 1982) was an American poet, writer and the Librarian of Congress. He is associated with the Modernist school of poetry. He received three Pulitzer Prizes for his work.
