I got an ARC of this book from my favorite bookstore, Cover to Cover. I have a feeling this will be a favorite book my classroom next year. It is part mystery, part action adventure story, part kid friendly espionage.

The four members of the family Hitchcock decide to swap houses with a family from Paris as a way to save money on summer vacation. When the family gets to Paris they are quickly caught in the mix of a scheme to sell top secret information. It turns out that the family from Paris is...more

This fast-paced adventure is a quick, fun read but it is full of improbable action and stereotypical characters. The Hitchcock family participates in a house swap, with plans of spending a week sight-seeing in Paris. Instead they stumble into a international crime plot. Along the way they escape capture or death by outwitting bodyguards, climbing up chimneys, and battling with a man flying a helicopter.

The character development does nothing to add to the story. LIttle brother, Benji is a boy ge...more

Maddy Hitchcock and her brother, Benji, would’ve rather stayed home in Chicago for the summer. For her part, Maddy’d rather be lounging by the town pool with her friends and Benji, she’s sure, would rather be away at genius camp doing whatever geniuses do. Thanks to her father and his Great American Family Vacation, they’ve swapped houses with a family in Paris. But...she has to admit, after a few days of touring the Lourve Museum and eating at French cafes, this vacation doesn’t seem so bad. Un...more

To be fair I only got about 10 pages in but by page 3 I was already worried. The teenage sister (7th grade) was “Focused on a bowl of granola and a dog-eared copy of our Bodies Ourselves.” Really? I gave it a few more pages to see if that was just a ridiculous name dropy, trying, to be a “real” teen" mistake. No it turned out that the characters all seemed like caricatures. Too bad because it sounded like a fun, high adventure plot. 3rd and 4th graders will probably be able to get past the stoc...more

Offensive for certain demographics…

I will be posting this review on various websites so that the message can get out there.

I am an elementary school librarian in the Los Angeles area and I have to say that I really had very high hopes for “The Family Hitchcock.” I was excited and fairly certain that this would be a good addition to my collection... a huge Alfred Hitchcock fan myself, I figured ‘what a fabulous way to introduce the young ones in our school to the classic style, mystery, twists an...more

This story gallops along at a frenetic pace as the Family Hitchcock, going to Paris to live in the house of a French family with whom they have switched houses, find themselves caught up in espionage adventure. The fast pace and almost constant action makes this a good novel for reluctant readers.

Husband and wife writers, Mark Levin and Jennifer Flackett did a great job of keeping my interest. The Hitchock Family is family we are all familiar with today - growing pains, martial situations and children drifting in different directions. Quite an adventure!!!

Sort of a Man Who Knew Too Little, but with a whole family. Tensions are high in the Hitchcock family and they get an adventure out of their house-swap that puts them in danger and gets them to start working together. Fun, lighthearted with some funny.

Little Kid Reaction: Review pending.

Big Kid Reaction: The family dynamics are spot on, and the story moves fast with plenty of day-in-the-life humor. What makes the story particularly fun is the way that many of the misconceptions — often dropped into the story by Maddy — unravel. Upon arriving in Paris, the Hitchcocks unwittingly land in the middle of an international police investigation. The best part of the story is that not only do you learn more about the characters, you see that they lear...more

Suspense, action, and humor all-in-one! Great book. Some language is slightly mature so I will recommend to 5th graders and maybe some 4th graders. The Hitchcock family is terrible at speaking French so I really enjoyed all the language faux pas.

Blazing-fast pace, likable (if unbelievable) characters, and never a dull moment. A family vacation turns into a race to survive henchmen and even Interpol. A good pick for reluctant tweens.

Kids would like this book with its twists and turns regarding a house swap gone really bad. little mystery and adventure. Some sillinessbut entertaining

Totally entertaining....I could easily see this become a movie! Perfect for kids 4th grade and up....My son recommended it, I was so glad he did!

Predictable, unrealistic family adventure, clearly written to become a movie. Can see an audience for it, but not particularly interesting.

Fun story. The family Hitchcock gets involved in international espionage. They visit Paris and another country they weren't expecting to visit.

There were some funny bits to this story, it was also very interesting, and would appeal to boys and girls. Which is great. The only caveat was it seemed to focus A LOT on whether Mom and Dad Hitchcock were getting a divorce. Quite a few mentions of them sleeping back to back as opposed to curled in each other's arms, because clearly that means they're getting a divorce, and magically by the end of the story they cuddle again while sleeping. Yea...really odd and unnecessary.

Great book. Well written. Lots of plot twists. Didn't want to put this book down till the end. Wonder if the family will have another adventure vacation.
Emily
Predictable, cliched, and boring. I felt like I was watching a made for TV movie on ABC Family.
