Three weeks in Paris is the story of four girls who attended Ana Sedwicvk's School of Decorative Arts in Paris and were best friends. But, as the story unfolds, each of the girls receive an invitation to attend Ana's eighty-fifth birthday celebration and bemoan the fact that a quarrel had disrupted their friendship and left each unsure about attending. Kay is amrried to a Laird from Scotland and designer of fashion clothing, Alex, a set designer, is involved in a relationship, but still pines fo...more
I enjoyed this book. Initially took me a bit to get into ( blamed in part to my being in a Scottish Highlander mode) and I got a little muddled in Bradford's descriptive nature, but in the end, saw that it fit in with the characters and core nature of the story. One needs to see the city and country side, envision the colors and textures... Not pivotal to the plot but a nice accoutrement if you enjoy those types of details. There were moments of sadness and those still follow me after my reading...more
I gave it three stars as it was very good as an audio book. The narrator is amazing! The story itself - meh. Half the time I was scoffing at the spoiled characters who were just soooo miserable with their perfect lives and the fact that they never had to want for anything once (well, outside of one of the characters who was the only one you really felt had feet on the ground at one time). On the other hand I was enjoying the 'escape from reality' that the story offered. It was a kind of 'how the...more
I picked this up as an audio book, and wasn't very impressed from the beginning, but I was in the car and ended up being curious enough for the outcome to hear it out. The four main characters had attended the same fashion design school in Paris and their close friendship was broken up by a quarrel. They return 7 years later to attend the 85th birthday celebration of the headmistress of the school, and each with a separate agenda. I didn't find the characters very realistic, and thought way to m...more

The book three weeks in Paris is about four young women who once went to the same school in Paris. It was a prestigious art school owned by a beloved woman called Anya Sedgwick. These four girls with he names Jessica, Alexandra, Kay and Maria were Anya's favorite students of all years. The four bestfriends were were amzingly talented, each one in her own personal way.

Bradford has the good grace to practically begin the book with an explicit sex scene, so that I could move on without spending time reading a quarter of the book before coming upon the objectionable (to me) material and deciding not to continue. I'm not the book police; I'm just adding my two cents for the benefit of others who want to avoid graphic sex scenes. Too bad; I usually enjoy books set in Paris (one of my favorite places) and I have heard that Bradford is otherwise a good storyteller.
Four former students are reunited from Anya Sedgwick's fine arts school for her 85h birthday. They have had a falling out and not spoken to each other in years. We don't find out why and until way too late into the story. The middle of the book has too much detail about Anya's life. I would have liked the detail to have been more about the students and their lives. The reasons for their "fight" seemed more like something that would have happened in junior hight, not college.
This book was ok. It was pretty predictable and everything is wrapped up in a little bow at the end. I had expected more from the book - I don't usually read romance authors, but this one sounded more like a mystery about what caused four friends to fall apart. The reason, once you finally get to it, is less than interesting. I gave it three stars instead of two because I had the audiobook and the narrator did a great job of it, except for the few parts when it sounded like she'd been reading a...more

I 'read' the audiobook version....it was a fun diversion while driving to summer grad school.
The story was set in Paris, of course...so I'm a bit of a sucker for all things Parisian, even if the literature was a bit shallow...and predictable.
This will not be included in my 'highly rated' books. It's not one I'm even proud to add to my 'Already Read' list. Though I will sheepishly admit that I kind of enjoyed this cheesy story. :)

Four students at an art/design school in Paris had a falling out right before their graduation. They are invited back for the birthday of the head of the school who was a big influence on their lives. They are all reluctant to go because they have not spoken in 7 years. Each has issues that have happened to them over the years. A mystery that is 7 years old is solved as the birthday party approaches. It was a nice read but I wouldn't go out of my way to read it.

A friend of mine introduced me to Barbara T. Bradford through her book, "Emma's Secret"
Just amazing..!! I love the way Barbara Taylor Bradford writes... Her books are sooo real! Three Weeks in Paris talks about how four girls are reunited after parting away from each seven years before. The author has intricately woven a story based mainly on the feeling of young women and how they cope with the struggles which life puts forth before them. An awesome read for those you are into romance, suspense, and stories with an emotional touch.
Gosh, what a disappointment. I wanted to finish reading the book because I seem to remember liking one or two books by her before.
But here: everyone was incredibly beautiful, successful, talented, and well-to-do. Absolutely madly in love, or super tragically disappointed in love. Everything was exquisite and fabulous. What a load of gushing! Not an ounce of reality anywhere. I like to read to go to a different place, but this is not the place I want to be! Thank goodness this is now done!

The reader for this book is fantastic! She made each voice distinct without being distracting.
Unfortunately, the actual story left much to be desired. There were bits that I liked, but I had a hard time cheering for any of the character. My indignation at their choices made for a great distraction while I was at the dentist though!

This book was a very easy read. It is a romance novel with some mystery involved in the story line. The story is based around modern day Paris and follows the lives of 4 former students and their former teacher who is turning 85. It reunites them all together for 3 weeks in Paris. It is very well written and is a great book.
Aunt Sue, I finished! this book is exactly what you expect, and is therefore quite satisfying. it made me both want a vacation in paris, and also an alternate life that includes a 10-ish-hours-per-week job designing sets for both plays and movies (!!), a tribeca loft, and tailored pantsuits and silk shirts worn for sunday lunch.

Toronto Public Library has no CD Audio Version on this; they do, however, have a cassette, but I'll pass on that for now.

Barbara Taylor Bradford is the author of 25 bestselling novels, including Playing the Game, Breaking the Rules, and The Ravenscar Dynasty. She was born in Leeds, England, and from an early age, she was a voracious reader: at age 12, she had already read all of Dickens and the Brontë sisters. By the age of twenty, she was an editor and columnist on Fleet Street. She published her first novel, A Wom...more

“It's different when the person you love dies. There's an awful finality to death. But it is final. The end. And there's the funeral, family gatherings, grieving, all of those necessary rituals. And they help, believe me. When the object of your love just disappears, there's no way to deal with the grief and pain.”
