Spyders and cannibals and pissed off gods, oh my!

Duty-bound to journey across the Damned Plains to rescue her cousin, the Princess of York, from ruination, Miranda Anvers makes her way to Endville where she hopes to enlist the aid of Danner, a journeyman well known for his guide skills. Miranda is counting on Danner to get them to the fabled Crystal Palace where her cousin is being held.

I have to admit, it took a couple of chapters before I was able to get the flow of the writing and understand...more

Sometimes when writing reviews, I feel like a curmudgeon repeatedly shouting the same phrase at the whippersnappers on the lawn, but here I go again anyway: take your time, slow down, spend more time thinking and writing and editing!

There are a lot of really interesting concepts used in this story that I wish had been developed further. I could easily see this as a novel-length story with a little more time. I liked the steampunk elements combined with the author's take on Norse mythology, I th...more

Journeyman’s Ride by Marie Harte, is an erotica, and like most erotica, it’s filled with sexy, imaginative sex scenes, but what I like about this book is that it’s not entirely plotless and most of the scenes are tastefully done. The book is a novella length, short, but enough to keep you satisfied.

I enjoyed this book very much and I hope there’s more to come from Marie Harte.

Journeyman’s Ride by Marie Hart is an interesting science fiction story with many paranormal elements. Miranda is duty-bound to search for her cousin, the Princess of York, and save her from probable ruination. Her cousin is not worthy of this feat since she tends to be selfish rather than tenderhearted. Miranda must travel across the perilous Damned Plains to extricate the princess from her dire circumstances despite her questionable character.

Danner is a an honorable journeyman with the abilit...more

Journeyman’s Ride was a fantastic and fun quick read. With a bit of steampunk, erotica, mythology and fantasy mixed together Marie Hart has built an interesting and unique world to dive into. The terminology threw me a bit and this new world came with very little explanation though.
I did enjoy the characters and that is what counts for me. Danner is a courageous, honorable, and sexy lead man who has lived without love until he meets the uniquely beautiful Miranda. While Miranda has lived...more

This was a really interesting book that fused steampunk, erotica, and Norse mythology. Unlike most erotica stories, this had a really great plot to it. The characters are well drawn.

I have not read any of Marie Harte’s other books. I will be going back to check them out though.

Now as I noted above, this is an erotica book. So if you do not like scenes that are sexually explicit, then you should shy away from this book. However, if you like things to get hot and heavy in your reading materials,...more

When I first read the blurb, I was a little concerned, because it says “Drawn by her lush beauty, he agrees to guide Miranda across the Plains if she’ll let him explore her body each night.” This bothered me for two reasons — first, it m...more

The climax was kind of a dud, but it was a very nice story anyway.

I really enjoyed the world that Marie Harte built here, but it wasn't explained in any way. Things had names, but no real descriptions of what they were beyond the very basics. Regardless, I think it was very interesting and would have probably enjoyed a thick novel full of world building and explanations of weird clockwork gadgets and the various dimensions, deities, etc. I thought this was part of a series and maybe the world bu...more

I'm not sure I liked this one as much. I felt like I do when I miss the first half of the movie. It took too long to figure out what was going on and by the time I did, the story was over. This would have worked much better as a full novel. I thought there should be a little more explanation of the "world" into which I was dropped. There was just too much sci-fi, steam-punk, and Greek mythology all packed into one little story. On the erotica front, it was pretty well written. I did like the cha...more

I really like Marie Harte’s writing and have read many of her books. Journeyman’s Ride was an interesting read. You kinda jump in at the middle so to speak so it takes a bit to figure out some of the characters. I really liked Danner and Miranda. It was kinda funny how they were trying to “be cool” with one another when they both wanted each other. It was a good entertaining read…a bit of Steampunk meets Norse mythology with some steamy sex thrown in for good measure.

Rating: 3.5/5

Really liked the main characters Miranda and Danner, but oh dear oh dear, I wish there was more world building. This novella would have mad an ace novel. I enjoyed the marriage of Norse and other mythologies in particular.

Oh those pesky Gods interfering with people like we are toys. Interesting read. I liked the take on lightening and how the Gods both help and hinder. I did think things were cleaned up a bit too neatly.

This was a good twist on an outback tale. It was a nice tale of redemption and life life lessons learned. It was a little slow at times but I can forgive it this due to the rampant nature of the lead characters. This made the read worth it and I would recommend this story to ertoica fans everywhere.

I loved the use of Norse mythology and the world building, but I had trouble connecting with the hero, Danner.
