Memories for Sale is a novella by Karen Fowler. This is a story about a mother with a cancer diagnosis, an estranged daughter, a grandchild that has never been seen and a desire to make amends. Like many parents, Eleanor thinks that providing money for her granddaughter will make amends for never having seen her, so she decides to sell her collection of ceramics. This was available for free on Amazon for a limited time and I downloaded it without reading what it really was about. The cover looked to lovely and the title had a nice ring to it.
So with that being said and everyone reassured that I'm still my shallow old self, this story wasn't bad. But it wasn't that good either. I think it was a nice thing to read when you're sitting in the waiting room of your doctor's or something, but that is about it.

This short story was well written and an easy read. It flowed smoothly. It just could have been longer. I really enjoyed it but, would have enjoyed it more if the characters had been more developed. The sotory is about a much needed reuniting of mother and daughter, the meeting of a grandchild, grandma almost didn't get to meet. I enjoyed it but, wish there had been more. I will try other things by this author.

An avid reader, I believe we have much to learn about the world, and ourselves, through explorations of the written word. Books are the threads of timeless human connection, and I strive, at least in some small way, to touch others through my writing.
Okay, enough of the heavy stuff. Let's get a little personal. I have worn many hats through my thirty-some years of living (and yes, that's as specif...more

“One couldn’t be selective when remembering the past. Ignore the turmoil, chaos and pain – and the truly great memories would not shine with such luster.”

“Coming home seemed to have started the healing process. No longer vivid and garish, the memories seemed to be covered in gossemer, fading behind a curtain of time and forgiveness.”
