Rune Drexler, Big Bad Wolf Jr., and Countess Jezebel Dracula are students at Master Dreadthorn's School for Wayward Villains. It's like military school for the children of famous villains; it's where you learn to be bad. But Rune is failing at his villainous studies, so when he lands himself in detention (again), Master Dreadthorn assigns him a Plot. In one week, Rune and...more

(Quarter 4- Fantasy) This book was pretty good and I liked the jokes and the people/creatures who were in this book. I really enjoyed this book and think I might read more of this author's other books.
The book is about this boy named Rune who is the son of Master Dreadthorn. Master Dreadthorn is the headmaster of Master Dreathorn's School for Wayward Villians. You know how when kids do something bad they get sent to a camp to become good. Well this school is like that except for villians who ar...more

I stumbled upon this book while looking at the shelves at the library for books that I could read at school. I saw the title and then the cover and thought "Well, I bet this will be fun!" and checked it out for myself. It was a cute book. I really liked that the main characters go to a villian school (even though they are terrible villains) but that they also maintain such teenager-esque attitudes about things. It was an easy book to read and to get through. I hope Stephanie Sanders plans to wri...more

I enjoyed this one. The school in question is for "wayward villains" -- kids who have done something good and embarrassed their truly villainous parents (Count Dracula and the Big Bad Wolf are among the parents). The characters are likable, and there is plenty of humor. The plot is predictable, but fast-paced and satisfying. I would happily recommend this book to 8- to 12-year-olds.

(Note: I received a free advance reading copy of this book from the publisher at a American Library Association An...more

Rune, Jezebel and Wolf Jr are classmates at Master Dreadthorn's School fo Wayward Villians. They, and everyone else in the school, are there because they did something "good", so now they're studying how to be bad. Rune ends up getting in so much trouble that in order to not be kicked out of the school, he has to suceed at a "Plot". He needs his friends to help him thwart the other villians and complete his tasks in the assigned time.
Pretty predictable, and the villians are not really all that v...more

I just could NOT get through this book. I should have taken a clue from the title and cover art - but I figured it was a short enough book and it wouldn't take long to read. I was wrong, I couldn't stomach it. It sounds terribly lame, but it seemed like every page I was rolling my eyes at either the characterization of the villains or the writing. I was nauseated by the continual and overdone references to other villains and modern-day fantasy lore. I know the author/publisher was probably going...more

From September 2011 SLJ:
Gr 3-6Where do scoundrels and monsters send their children who aren't quite nefarious enough? Why, to Master Dreadthorn's School for Wayward Villains, of course. Among the students: Countess Jezebel Dracula, who prefers hot cocoa to blood. The son of the Big Bad Wolf has been there since he tried to save a drowning child. However, none of the students have it as tough as the son of the headmaster, who feels that he will never be bad enough to please his dad. In a final e...more

Great start, solid middle, and potential for future... I want to see more school and less wanderings... Got a little generic in the wanderings... Ending eyerollingly obvious, yet character is oblivious...solid 3.5 stars... Kids would enjoy... Good readalike to falcon quinn.

This was very cute. I liked how the narrator kept insisting he was evil and a villain but he and his friends kept rescuing people and doing heroic things. I think this would be great for kids of the age it's meant for, both boys and girls.

You may like this funny adventure about a school trying to teach it's students how to be villains. But how do you become a good villain when you are really a hero at heart?
Summer
A fun and quirky tale, if a bit predictable. The idea was original and interesting. I think that middle grade kids will love this book.

Ich liebe dieses Buch! Die Gestaltung ist so lieb gemacht, die Handlung witzig erzählt und ich mag die Anlehnung an die verschiedenen Märchen.

While many middle-grade novels bill themselves as "hilarious," this one actually is! With a strong sense of voice and a clever premise, Good Curses Evil is a promising start to what will surely be a great series.
