"Love in my world usually ended up with someone hearing 'I smite thee ' as she was cursed to be some lame flower for the rest of her life." For three years, Alexandria has lived among mortals--pretending to be like them and trying to forget the duty she'd been trained to fulfill as a child of a mortal and a demigod. Swinging with all my might, I slammed the bottom of the lamp into the daimon’s head. The sickening thud it made pleased me in a way that would’ve concerned guidance counselors across the nation.

Addicting!!

I picked up the Daimon prequel in anticipation for the Half-Blood ARC I’ll be reviewing soon and WOW! What a great kickoff to a series I know is going to have me on the edge of my seat. Definitely a storyline I can fall into with a great cast and a perfectly crafted paranormal element.

Note: Info on free ebook download link for this story below. A lot of authors release short stories as prequels or companion novels to their series, usually to keep fans jazzed between books or to entice you to try out the others. Some of these small bites are more successful than others, and I'm happy to report that the taste readers get from Daimon is enough to whet the appetite for more.

Alex is a 17-year-old half-demon who has been living among humans with her mother for three past years. She...more

Review of Daimon on K-Books

I really enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. Usually I don't enjoy prequels all that much as I feel like it's just an introduction into the 'real' story beginning. This one is definitely the exception. I really enjoyed Daimon. I thought it was a great start of a amazing story and I found myself getting completely hooked.

Alex is a Half-Blood. She is a descendent of the Gods, but her father was a mortal so that leaves her with two options, become a slave for...more

I wanted to read this series because I loved the covers. So, I went into this prequel hoping it would be good, and I'm glad to say that it was good. Really good. Looks like Half-Blood starts off right where Daimon left off, so I highly recommend reading this if you want an idea of what the story is like. I think it's a great start, and I can't wait to read more! :)

I read this in one sitting and I loved, loved it. I have not been this excited to get my hands on the next book in a series since Harry Potter and Twilight. Jennifer Armentrout has created a series that will be the "Percy Jackson" for girls, only so much better. Congratulations to Ms.Armentrout for giving readers a book they are going to love.

17 year old Alex is a Half-Blood. (Daughter of a Pure blood and a mortal) She and her mom left the Covenant 3 years ago, and have been moving from town to town constantly. Alex's mother never explained why they left the covenant, but what she does know is that she is not supposed to go back!

Life in Miami is not bad. She lives near the beach and has a HOT boyfriend. But an unfortunate event forces Alex to go on the run again. This time she is being chase by Daimons. With just a couple hundred buc...more

LOVED IT. One of the things I enjoy about Jennifer's writing is that her protagonist, Alex, has this no-nonsense attitude about her. She's cocky, snarky, and pretty much a badass. But she's real, too. She has such a deep bond with those whom she trusts that it's hard not to sympathize with her when things go awry. Jen's writing has such a way of drawing the reader into this world of mythical beings that it seems like we could have daimons in our own backyards and have no clue. I'm so excited abo...more

I managed to get the first book in the series ‘Half-Blood’ for review and I wasn’t too sure if to start this pre-sequel before or after I’d read it. As you can tell, I went with before…..and yeah! I’m so glad did.

This short story introduces us to Alex, a young who has been living in the human world with her mother for three years after fleeing the covenant. Alex isn’t like normal girls; she’s half human, half god making her a half-blood. When Ale...more

Um wow!! This is the first book in a long time that deserved 5 stars from me! This is action packed and even though its a teaser for Half-Bloodcoming out in October (WTF October?? that's too far away!!); its full of emotion and you can't help but really connect with Alex in this preview. You also get the 1st chapter of the book and I'm dying to get my hands on the book!!!
It's a must read!

To sum it up: For three years, Alexandria has lived among mortals— Pretending to be like them and trying to forget the duty she'd been trained to fulfill as a child of a mortal and a demigod. At seventeen, she's pretty much accepted that she's a freak by mortal standards... And that she'll never be prepared for that duty. According to her mother, that’s a good thing. ...But as every descendant of the gods knows, Fate has a way of rearing her ugly head. A horrifying attack forces Alex to flee Mia...more

Daimon is the short, action-packed prequel to Half-Blood, the first book in Jennifer L. Armentrout's Covenant series. I first heard all the hype about Daimon sometime in early July, so I purchased it right away since I was on the hunt for a good story. I was not disappointed!

We're first introduced to Alexandria "Alex" Andros, a half-blood descendant of the gods, as a young girl in the Covenant where the Hematoi ber...more

Alex is a half-blood, the daughter of a mortal and a Hematoi: the child of a demigod. For the past three years, Alex and her mother have been running from an unnamed threat in their past, living among the mortals.

Now, the past has caught up with them and the daimons – which live to feed off the Hematoi and the half-bloods – have come for them. Alex must make a decision: face her present danger or run back to the unknown dangers of her past.

From the start of this novella, I was captivated by Alex...more

I really really liked this book. It's a prequel to the Covenant Series of about 80pp or so. This is a brand new author and I must say that I am quite impressed.

We are introduced to seventeen year old Alexandria(Alex), a Half-Blood, and her Hematoi mother. Hematoi are children of gods and mortals, children of two Hematoi's are Pure- Bloods with god-like powers and half-bloods are children of a Hematoi and mortal with not so god-like powers. Alex and her mother run away from the Covenant, a place...more

This novel will serve to make the reader more excited to read Half-Blood, the next novel in this series. The reader will meet Alex, the main character. Alex is of mixed heritage, she is both human and god-a half-blood. Her mother is murdered by Daimons, forcing Alex to run to a place and people she isn't sure will help her. Alex is a strong, determined main character who will endear herself to the reader very quickly.

This novel is short, but it is meant to be a prequel. The reader will be taken...more

Totally loved this very short prequel (80 pages). I have a bit of a girl crush on Alex(andria) who is funny, kick-ass, strong and smart. She is a half-blood (with a pure blood demigod for a mother and a mortal for a father, who she doesn't know....) And this short story has certainly made me want more! So onto the first book, Half Blood....can't wait to finish it, I just downloaded it to my e-reader :)

This story was awesome! I can't wait to read what happens next in Half-Blood. The story was written very well and it was easy to follow.

The story is a very good lead up to the series filling in the gaps that would have led the main character (Alex) to where she is now. I hope everyone that isn't sure about this series will read this prequel. If this doesn't convince you that this series will be amazing I don't know what will. This is a great introduction to the series and I recommend you all rea...more

Wow! This series is going to suck you in... and you're going to be SOOO glad it did!

I was lucky enough to read this as soon as Jennifer submitted it to Spencer Hill Press. We're offering it as a free download because we know how good it is. People who read this novella will be psyched to get their hands on Half-Blood.

I started reading book 1, Half-blood. Since the story in book 1 started where the prequel had left off, I was a bit lost and got curious about Alexandra Andros (the heroine in this series). So, I decided to read this prequel. It was a good thing. I learned how Alex ended up in Atlanta. The story evolved on Greek Myth. Alex is a half-blood (a descendant of a demigod and human). Her mom is a pure-blood (descendant of two demigods), and she was one of the Hematois. When Alex was seven years old, he...more

I downloaded this book onto my kindle in order to see if I would want to read the actual series. Daimon was a great peek into the world of Alexandria Andros and the Hematois. Hematois are the result of Gods having children with mortals and the Half-bloods spawn from a Hematois having a child with a mortal. Alex (Alexandria) is a half-blood, her mother a powerful Hematoi and Daimon introduces Alex’s story in Miami, three years after her mother forced her to leave their world behind without so muc...more

DNF.

I was actually really excited to read this prequel because it's so highly rated, and the entire Covenant series is really highly rated. And I love the strategy of introducing a $0.99 novella to grab new readers, and this one is even a prequel. Sign me up! When the $0.99 novella succeeds, it turns me into a devoted reader - I gobbled up Courtney Milan's entire backlist after I was introduced to her via her first novella. But this was a total fail for me.

I don't usually give 5 star ratings but wow.. just wow. This prequel is utterly amazing and has me so excited for the rest of the series. Is it a blatant rip-off of VA? Kind of.. but don't let that deter you! Armentrout has an elegance to her writing that I found sorely lacking in Mead's series - especially in her portrayal of Rose. At times I couldn't stand being in her head while she narrated VA.

The exact opposite is true of this series. I feel like Alex embodies the best of Rose...more

Wow, just fucking wow. I shouldn’t be this shocked because I knew Jennifer could write extraordinarily well , but fuck I just wasn’t expected this.

This novella follows Alexandria Andros on a journey away from everything she has ever known. The half-blood daughter of a god, she was yanked out of the school for half-bloods by her mother who would never explain why they had to leave, simply saying “it’s not safe.” That was three years ago and they are still on the run and she still has not explanat...more

This review was first published on my blog Lecture Toute une Aventure

This prologue to the Covenant series is interesting but having read it first I got the impression I was missing information to really understand the story. Of course this novella is done to complete the story and to introduce us to it but I would have loved more, because when you are reading it with having read half-blood before Alex seems quite stupid for example. I mean, she is on the run with her mother but she doesn’t qu...more

This is the prequel to the Covenant series. I picked it up after reading a review of book one in the series, and I wasn't disappointed.

While this is technically a YA series, it doesn't really read that way so far. Yes the character is seventeen, but she is very much older and wiser than her years. This short story was filled with lots of action, and a good introduction into the world that Ms. Armentrout is building.

In this story we meet Alexandria, a seventeen year old girl who is anything but...more

DAIMON A Prequel to Half-Blood (Covenant) by Jennifer Armentrout

DAIMON is a prequel novella to Jennifer Armentrout’s Young Adult Covenant series. A daimon was a pure-blood who developed a taste for aether, and is no longer part of the Covenant. Aether is a component in the blood of this supernatural race and like a drug it is something the daimons crave. DAIMON is a short story that reveals the back-story to Alexandria’s return to the Covenant and the half-blood life she thought she knew.
