I loved this book about a romance between a 35-year-old recent divorcee college instructor (Olivia) and the part owner of a family brew pub (29 year-old Jamie) but don't have much time to review it. It was hot, funny, and fast paced. Yeah, it was hot.:) So, what to do? How about some pictures of lovable stud Jamie, who sometimes tends bar in a kilt?

Jamie, Jamie, Jamie. You are such a hot and studly flirt, bless your heart. And with those fine fine kilt on, you just are not for the faint heart.

I have to say, I enjoyed book #1 a bit more than this book. Not too much by comparison but still this one felt a bit lacking mostly in the humor part. I cannot recall any LOLOL moment at all in fact. Oh, I really enjoyed this one! Jamie and Olivia were a cute, fun, sexy, and perfectly complimentary ‘opposites attract’ couple with flammable chemistry that made for some seriously steamy bedroom (and hot tub) scenes. Yowza!

Jamie has always been the screw-up Donovan while Eric is the one who is staid and responsible, but Jamie is trying to change and grow up but his family especially Eric doesn't see that. He himself feels unworthy and there is a distance between him and his family, he doesn't let them see the "other" part of him, the part that has dreams of expanding their brewery into a restaurant, the part that has lovingly restored his house and garden and the part that is taking a course on restaurant management, to them he's still the playboy bartender who draws the crowd in his kilt.

Olivia Bishop has always been serious and controlled, first as a child whose parents had other things to occupy them, then when she got married at twenty-two and allowed her husband's Victor's needs mold her, she gave up the things she liked thinking they weren't okay for a grown-up and partly because Victor didn't like them which she acknowledges later, she also went into teaching since Victor pushed her into it but now she's divorced(her choice, she found her husband cheating) and goes out with some women for the first time, where she meets Jamie.

The next time she meets him when he's in her class(a non-credit one) and he asks her out, she refuses of course, she is older than him(he's 29) and he's freer and younger while she is un-fun and controlled but later when she has to go to a college faculty party she asks him to come with her since she isn't upto dealing with Victor and how he is constantly trying to show off the younger women on his arm, not that she cares but she thinks it's rude.

As things come to pass they get involved, with Jamie promising to loosen her up and broaden her horizons, be it staying up late and deviating from her set schedule or trying out beer or skinny dipping in his hot-tub while Olivia helps him out on his business plan. They never define what they are doing, Olivia thinks that she finally letting go(she's only been with her husband) while Jamie likes being with her, it is easy and she's not like the women he's been with, she listens to him.

I enjoyed this book, more than Tessa's mainly because of Jamie, he was so good and I really wanted to kick his family(Eric actually) for constantly throwing his mistakes on his face and not giving him the benefit of doubt. Jamie's happy go lucky exterior hid a lot of pain and self-doubt and I even disliked Olivia for treating him badly and not seeing beyond it. He respected her and made her see that it was never too late to change oneself and follow her dreams(of opening up a business) but Olivia could never believe that Jamie would want to be with her.

I did like the fact that her ex wasn't a factor in what she was doing even though he made a nuisance of himself, constantly trying to call her and stuff.

Now, I can't wait to read Eric's story mainly to see how he will be redeemed because honestly he's been a patronizing jerk to his siblings especially Jamie.

So, my first Victoria Dahl Novel. YAY me! I follow her on twitter because she is funny, so when I saw one of her books on Netgalley, I immediately requested it. I'm glad that I did. I just finished reading Ghost Story by Jim Butcher, and needed something a little less...well, everything.

Bad Boys Do, follows Jamie Donovan. Sexy, 29 year old Former Rakish Bartender, who conveniently wears a kilt while slinging beers :P He is part owner of the Donovan Brothers Brewery and has two siblings. Eric and Tessa. He's also a fairly dirty talker.

Olivia Bishop,is our 35 year old leading lady and a teacher of Restaurant management after divorcing her cheating douche bag of a husband Victor. Victor who parades his his early twenty something conquests like a Stud. Only he isn't the catch he thinks he is.

I could really relate to Olivia who had body insecurities with her small breasts and inexperience. She was shy, and modest, but inside, she wants to do fun things, be free to experiment and get out in the world. Out of her comfort zone. In this regard, I am very similar to Olivia. (It's a good thing I have my own Jamie, though. No seriously, my husbands name is James, I call him Jamie) Moving on... No, he doesn't have a kilt. Yet.

Victoria Dahl is a great character writer. Her characters have depth. Meaning they felt real. They had issues, insecurities, snappy dialogue and fights. Jamie's brother Eric was a complete and total asshole in this book. So much so, that I don't even know if I want to read about him. HOWEVER, I can understand where he was coming from--to a point. Having had to be the parental figure after their parents died, he took on the adult role so young. He cannot shed the skin. I hope he can let loose in his book and find happiness.

I didn't read the first book of the series, but I didn't feel like I was missing anything. I guess the first book was about Tessa and Luke.

At any rate, Bad Boys Do, was a fun, fairly light contemporary romance with strong characters. And Jamie wore a kilt. The Sex was steam worthy and hot.

Off to buy my Jamie a Kilt. Hopefully Leather.(less)

Did I mention somewhere that I fell in love with Eric in the anthology The Guy Next Door, well…I am two timing Eric now with his brother Jamie. As the hawt, kilt-wearing, fun-loving, keg tapping younger brother, Jamie is everything that Eric is not. Wild, exuberant, chatty and irresponsible. But as time goes by, Jamie begins to question what he really wants out of life. And, "just being a bartender" is not it. Jamie fights an uphill battle to convince not only his family, but the one woman he has met that he can be more than a party boy.

Jilted but not totally bitter, Olivia picks herself up after her divorce and decides to have a little fun. As she and her friends tip a few over at the Donovan Brewery, she can't help but notice the gorgeous man behind the bar. Truly, you would have to be blind, def and dumb not to notice Jamie and the harem of women that tag along behind him. Olivia is surprised to then see him show up at her work, the local community college. Trust is tough commodity in this book…Olivia must learn to trust her heart and Jamie, while Eric learns to trust his brother to be the grown man he really has become. So many times my heart clenched and ached for Jamie and his frustration over reliving his mistakes of the past.

I was eagerly awaiting Jamie and his shirtless water feature installation, but I got so much more…the loving is hot and abundant, but the HEA is even better! This story only made me want Eric's, Real Men Will, even more. Enjoy!

Thank god it's over. I can't believe how long it took me to read this. Like I said in one of my status updates - it was ridiculously easy to walk away from this novel. It was boring and the fact that I got Real Men Will as an advance copy from NetGalley and wanted to read the first two books in the series so I knew exactly what was going on is the only reason I continued to read this.

He is the bad boy, the black sheep of the family, the "irresponsible" Donovan brother, who works at the brewery as the bartender and public face of the brewery, flirts with anything female, and has a reputation for sleeping around (and being damn good at it!)

But there's a whole other side to him and it was so sweet to see that he is actually looking for recognition, looking to belong and feel comfortable. He loves his family and wants to prove to them that he is not the fuck-up they see him as. But he has a hard time of proving this to his brother! They had a lot of family conflict in this book, which at times was almost too much to read and maybe one of the reasons why this wasn't a 5 star read for me.

Now onto the romance. I'm sooooo happy I was confused and wrong about who was Jamie's HEA. I actually thought he would end up with Monica (from book 1) and I really couldn't see how that would work out, being that she had betrayed his family. But I'm happy to report it's not her! We meet Olivia Bishop when she first goes into the brewery with her book club friends and they are all drooling over Jamie, especially when he bends over with his kilt *sigh* where was I? Oh yeah! So she's divorced, her ex is totally crazy and stalkerish in a way, and she hasn't been able to get back in the dating game.

So when Jamie ends up as her student on one of her college classes about restaurant development and has a proposition for her, she can't refuse. She will help him with his plans for the Brewery and she will get some no strings attached fun!

And let me tell you, Jamie knows how to show a girl a good time! He can melt the panties off ANY girl! I have one complaint though... after all the drooling we get to do over his kilt, the one time they have sex with him wearing it, it's a "fade to black" moment. I feel cheated!!!! LOL

This book was scorching hot, yes more than book one. A LOT of family drama, the investigation into the brewery break-in continues. Jamie has a lot to prove to himself, to his family and to Olivia. But he definitely got to my heart!!! (less)

Jamie muss man einfach nur lieben, er war schon immer das schwarze Schaf der Familie, aber zeigt uns das so viel mehr in ihm steckt als alle anderen glauben. Besonders wenn er immer mit seinem Bruder Eric aneinander geraten ist hat er mir sehr leid getan und das kam oft vor, denn sobald er und Eric im Buch aufeinander treffen streiten sie sich!! Eric siehr immer nur was Jamie falsch macht und lässt kein gutes Haar an ihm, wodurch er mir sehr unsympathisch. Ich meine er versucht nicht mal Jamie richtig zu zu hören und macht alles was er tut schlecht. Seine Schwester Tessa iat auch keine wirklich hilfe, da sie zwar versucht zwischen den Brüdern zu vermitteln, aber das war es dann auch, auch macht sie es meist nur schlimmer!! Schade finde ich das Jamie in diesem Buch sein dunkelstes Geheimnis seinen Geschwistern noch nicht mitgeteilt hat denn ich hätte gern erfahren wie sie reagieren.

Olivia mochte ich anfangs sehr gerne, aber je mehr ich gelesen habe um so schlimmer wurde sie!! Es geht nachher nur noch darum das sie Spaß haben will und selber beim Sex Spaß vermitteln will und noch mehr Spaß.... Also für ihre 35 Jahre hat sie sich teilweise wie eine unreife 17 jährige benommen. Ich hab mir sogar teilweise gewünscht das ihre Freundin Gwen die Hauptperson wäre, sie war nicht so steif wie Olivia die meiner Meinung nach besser zu ihrem Ex gepasst hat als zu Jamie!! Auch sie hat Jamie oft verurteilt und ihm nicht geglaubt wenn er versucht hat zu sagen/zeigen das er nicht so schlecht ist wie andere sagen!! Selbst am Ende hat sie noch an ihm gezweifelt, wodurch sie mir vollends unsympathisch wurde.

Alles in allem hat das Buch seine vollen 5 Sterne verdient, da die Handlung einfach großartig ist, der Preis auch gerecht ist und alle Figuren schön ausgearbeitet sind. Schon die ersten Seiten quillen nur so vor Humor über!! Das Buch verführt einen zum Lachen, aber auch zum Weinen!!Von mir aus hätte auch nur Jamie im Buch vorkommen können und ich hätte trotzdem 5 Sterne gegeben, da seine Figur einfach nur unschlagbar ist, seine grünen Augen bringen alles zum schmelzen. Ich würde gern wissen wie es mit Jamie und Eric weitergeht, aber ich werde mir leider den 3 Teil "Real Men Will" nicht kaufen, da es Erics Geschichte ist und er mir in diesem Band so unsympathisch geworden ist!! Also kauft "Bad Boys Do", da es 100%ig sein Geld wert ist.(less)

I loved this series. The setup for Bad Boys finds Olivia, a recently divorced college instructor, joining a book club, partly to meet new people. The group she joins meets monthly at the Donovan Brothers Brewery, but they don't go to discuss books--they go to ogle kilt-wearing Jamie Donovan. Even Olivia succumbs to Jamie's sex appeal.

I actually enjoyed Bad Boys Do more than the first book in this series, Good Girls Don't. Although Tessa is more relatable to me personally, there the vulnerability that Jamie has just draws you in and keeps you invested. He's the guy that everybody thinks is carefree and fun with no responsibilities in the world, but he's much more than that. พล็อตเรื่องได้ใจค่ะ นางเอกอายุมากกว่า กับพระเอกที่แสนเซ็กซี จนตอนอ่านไปขนลุกไป โดยเฉพาะฉากบรรยายหน้าตาพระเอก อ่านไปน้ำลายหกไป ดังนั้นหากจะบอกว่า เรา "อิน" กะเรื่องนี้มาก ๆ ก็พูดได้นะคะ โดยเฉพาะวัยที่ใกล้เคียงกับโอลิเวีย (แต่แหม หาเจมีในชีวิตไม่เจอค่ะ) เลยรู้สึกว่า เข้าใจเธอมาก ทั้งในส่วนของความคิด และพฤติกรรม

เราชอบตรงที่ในเล่มนี้โอลิเวียอาจจะเพิ่งหย่าขาดจากสามี (ที่สูงวัยกว่า) หลังจากแต่งงานกันมาสิบปี คนแต่งทำให้เห็นอย่างชัดเจนว่า ไม่ได้มีอะไรหลงเหลือในความสัมพันธ์นั้น ความรักที่เธออาจจะมีให้กับสามีเก่า มันได้เจือจาง และตายไปนานแล้ว จากพฤติกรรมห่างเหิน และไม่เอาใจใส่ของเขา นั่นทำให้เราเชื่อในความรู้สึกที่เธอมีให้กับเจมี นอกจากนี้ (สปอยล์) การทีเขียนให้สามีเก่ายังหวงโอลิเวีย และทำทุกอย่างให้เธอหึง เราชอบมากเลยนะคะ ทำให้รู้สึกว่า นางเอกมีค่าดี

โดยรวม เรื่องนี้ลงตัวมาก ๆ สำหรับเรื่องแนวปัจจุบันเพียว ๆ คาแร็คเตอร์ที่มีความน่าสนใจมากพอที่จะดึงดูดความสนใจของคนอ่าน (อย่างเรา) เอาไว้ได้ตลอดทั้งเรื่อง ซึ่งจุดนี้สำคัญมากนะคะ เพราะเรื่องแนวนี้ไม่มีพล็อตรองอื่นมาสอดแทรก ต้องอาศัยคาแร็คเตอร์เป็นหลักสำคัญในการดึงคนอ่านเอาไว้กับเรื่อง ซึ่งเรื่องนี้สอบผ่านฉลุยค่ะ

At one point, I had read every Danielle Steele novel, along with so many Jackie Collins, Pat Booth, Judith McNaught (omg, Matt and Meridith are still perfection) books. Now, if those author names don't completely date me and give away my age, the next comment will.

In the immortal words of Virginia Slims magazine ads, when it comes romantic fiction, we've come a long way, baby.

Romance got hot.

Back in the day, I always favored contemporary romance to historical. Bodice rippers were fine now and again, but mostly, I preferred a nice tailored blouse ripper. But regardless of time period, those books were positively chaste in comparison to this.

I'M NOT COMPLAINING.

Enough about my own book psychoanalysis... this book was delightful. Exactly the change of pace I needed. Funny. Not bust a gut laughing funny, but funny. Romantic. Sweet. Sexy. Full of characters I grew to love, and loathe, and a few I wanted to know more about (and there are two others, so yay for me). Light and maybe a little predictable, but who cares??

I had forgotten what it was like to read about grown up. I had forgotten what it was like to read third person, and get to hear the thoughts of both main characters. I had forgotten that not every story had to be full of coming-of-age angst. Sometimes people are already of age and they angst less. Or not less, just differently.

Whatever, I'm rambling. I read this in a day and a half, which is some sort of record for me. I loved this and can't wait to read the other two. This book made me want to read more. This book made me want to WRITE more. Hallelujah!

End note: the face that the fine people at B&N put Young Adult and Romance right next to each other? Hats off! (less)

I haven't liked ALL of Ms. Dahl's books, but this one was a winner for me. This was book 2 in the Donovan Brothers Brewery series about brother Jamie. This second book in the Donovan Brewery series by Victoria Dahl made me laugh and cry, and I just loved it. Jamie, the middle brother of the Donovan siblings, comes across as fun and charming but is perceived to be a f*#@ up by his older brother in particular. Olivia is a teacher at the local college. She has an ex-husband who has sort of controlled her life. She's ready to get her life and herself back. She's awesome! I very much relate to Olivia. She's quiet and finds relating to other women challenging. She's smart and capable but has people in her life, including her mother, otherwise. She has found a wonderful friend in her co-worker, Gwen, who has a nice little side story romance of her own. (So happy the professor wasn't some weird stalker dude or stuck up prick but an actual nice guy!)

Gwen tricks Olivia into attending a book club meeting at the Donovan's Brothers' Brewery. Olivia, thinking it is an actual book club, reads the book. Truth is, it is just a reason for a bunch of women to hang out, relax, and ogle Jamie. He handles it well. Olivia is embarrassed but successfully interacts and has a nice time. Jamie ends up taking Olivia's summer business class hoping to learn what he needs to know in order to implement his ideas for expanding the brewery. Chemistry is bubbling over between the two and they enter into an agreement for tutoring each other.

I will admit, the "you teach me to relax/have fun by us having sex" part of the agreement caused me to roll my eyes. Literally. I suspect it was just justification on Olivia's part to jump Jamie. He didn't put up a fight against her and I also admit, I enjoyed the scenes where they fulfilled the agreement. *eyebrow waggle* It is in this book where the notorious "mirror scene" happens. I will say no more about that so as not to spoil things.

Olivia is really good for Jamie and he's good for her. The Donovan dynamics are worked on during the story and Olivia helps repair some of the problems between Eric and Jamie. We get to see Tessa and Luke progress from book one. We also learn more about the perpetrators of the burglary.

If you're like me, read "Just One Taste" in The Guy Next Door and Good Girls Don't before jumping into this one. I must read a series in order or be very annoyed. If you are not like me, then read the series in any order you like, but read it.(less)

I originally started off listening to "Good Girls Don't", Tessa's story and could not get into it. I decided to move on to Jamie's story because it had more appeal to me. I'm glad I did because it inspired me to go back to listen "Good Girls Don't". Jamie is a very sympathetic lovable character and Olivia was the same. They both wore their hearts on their sleeves and just needed for someone to see them for who they truly were and not how they allowed themselves to be defined.

Welcome to book two of Victoria Dahl’s Donovan family trilogy with middle child Jamie’s story and like in book one she delves deeply into family dynamics and dysfunction where roles and rules are constantly changing and not always for the better. Her dialogue is trendy, fun and at times a bit raw but it goes too well with the tales to not fit. Her characters are brilliant in the novel as they seem so three dimensional you’re surprised they don’t leap off the page and not just the stars of the story but the minor players as well. The romance, ah the romance is complicated, it’s engaging, it’s emotional and it’s a balm for the true romantic. Her hero & heroine are two parts of the same coin and as the romance progresses you’ll be able to see for yourself how much they belong together. The love scenes, well I’ll suggest you read them near a source of extreme cold as it will produce extreme heat, combustible heat.
The balance between the romance and the family drama is what makes this novel and it’s trilogy siblings so remarkable as is the way in which this very talented author tells her story and that makes this my first must read for October.
This reads well as a stand a lone, but they’re called trilogies for a reason.
Thank you Ms. Dahl for another wonderful visit to the Donovan family, their brewery and their loves.

Because she was married to a full-time professor in the department, and she got rather stuck in a rut there playing second fiddle to him and his career. So yeah, been there, done that, got a whole drawer full of t-shirts; I feel Olivia, I really do. But I think most readers will feel where she's coming from, even if they haven't been there themselves, because Victoria Dahl writes her so well. It is tough starting over single when you've been part of a couple, and it's hard sticking to your resolution to get on with your life when your former spouse exploits his knowledge of you and the good aspects of your years together to try to get you back. Ahem.

Jamie Donovan, the book's hero, is a delight. He's a breath of fresh air for Olivia -- younger, full of plans and dreams, and (of course) damn sexy. Olivia is sexy too, but she doesn't realize it or celebrate it, because until now she's been a one-man woman. She gets much-needed confidence from how strongly Jamie is attracted to her, and taking the risks involved in being with him are huge growth steps for her. And she challenges Jamie, in different ways; they are good together and good for each other, and I never doubted for a minute that they belonged together.

Jamie is the misunderstood Donovan sibling. He has a party animal image and a love-'em-and-leave-'em reputation that really aren't deserved, but then he hasn't done much to counteract them, either. He wants to be taken more seriously, especially regarding his role in the family business, but he has quite a bit of insecurity of his own to deal with. Olivia believes in him, and she has the knowledge to help him with the business plan he wants to develop, so they form a partnership on a number of levels. It's nice in an older woman-younger man story that there's more going on than sexual attraction fairly early in the relationship.

One twist I really appreciated in this book was the issue of Jamie's sexual exploitation. Jamie is the face of the family brewpub, the head bartender, and he often works the bar in a kilt. His sister Tessa, in charge of publicity and promotion, has a Twitter account for the pub, from which she tweets messages as if she were Jamie. These are flirtatious little tidbits, designed to bring in customers, but sometimes Jamie is dismayed by what she gets him into. When he steps up and insists on controlling his own image, I gave a victory shout. It's a terrific gender role reversal, and yet the point is true for both men and women.

The middle book is sometimes tough to write, but Dahl crafts her overall story arc well. The issues between the siblings shift and build in this book, and some progress is made, but it's clear at the end that these Donovans have some work still to do in the area of family harmony.

As with other Dahl books, this one had me laughing, crying, and -- well, I won't say "panting," but certainly reacting to pretty steamy writing in places. (less)

I love Ms. Dahl's contemporary romances but this series is not doing it for me like that last couple I read. I wish I could connect more to these characters. I liked the book, don't get me wrong but I am not head over heels in love with any of them.

He has dreams of expanding the bar he owns with his family, but they can't see past who Jamie used to be and his past mistakes. With this mutual attraction in mind Olivia and Jamie decide to help each other out, Jamie will help Olivia loosen up and learn to have more fun. While Olivia will help Jamie with his new expansion project and both will enjoy the hot chemistry between the two.

But while Olivia forces herself to believe that her time with Jamie is just a fun thing and that she won't become emotionally attached. Jamie is thinking that he wants to be with Olivia as much and as long as possible. She makes he want to be a better person, and to be a kind of guy that deserves someone like her. With these two on different wavelengths it makes it hard for them to understand both their own feelings and each others.

This was a great story it was fun and light-hearted but with deeper issues for the characters. Both characters had been hurt before and are tired of people viewing them a certain way. They both want to shed who they were and with each others help they become the people they want to be and find the person they want to be with. Jamie was awesome in this book. He was so misunderstood by his brother and sister and I hated they way they treated him. He was clearly dealing with tons of guilt and had been since his parents died. He was just an amazing character and you couldn't not love him. This was a great story and I would definitely recommend it for a fun and easy contemporary romance.(less)
