There's something wrong when your final thoughts about a book are, "Thank God it's over!" I wasn't sure if I would make it through this mess of a book, but I am very proud to say I stuck with it all the way to the craptastic end.

Matthias Ambrose has been a demon mercenary for a very long time and now he is making some changes in his life. Part of those changes is his new mission and that is to protect Serah from the demons that are now after her. Matthias has secrets though that he would rather Serah never found out but if he isn’t careful that is exactly what will happen. Matthias needs Serah to trust him but when she can send that he is hiding information that makes it hard to earn trust. Matthias is going to have to decide if he can live with Serah knowing the truth about him and if it would help him to protect her better.

Matthias is falling in love with Serah but he is convinced that even though he fights on the right side his past will keep him from Serah as she won’t be able to deal with it or forgive for what he has done in the past but his heart isn’t about to let him leave Serah even if it would be for the best. Serah is not sure what to do with Matthias as much as she denies her attraction for him she is sure that he doesn’t want anything to do with her. With the demon gunning for her Matthias and Serah are finding out that they make a better team than they ever thought possible and if they can survive what is coming they just might be able to figure out what each of them feels for the other.

This story is well written and will keep the reader guessing as to what will happen next with all the action happening. This one will also give the reader a different twist to what they have read about angels and demons and other paranormal characters. This is fresh take on a theme that has been covered by others but with this one it will seem like a completely new type of story. This is one that is worth picking up and reading and will have readers looking for more books by this author.

Maybe this book gets better after 32% of my kindle, I have no idea, honestly I had to stop it was so bad. I just got tired of her fawning over his rock hard abs and him over her. There wasn't really sexual tension, it was just pure annoyance and what annoyed me is how dumb she is. I just waited for her to idk figure out why she's so special, Hell, I was trying to figure out why she's so special but I couldn't go on. Which is rare for me, I'll usually will read a bad book to the end...I couldn't...more

This is the first book by Sidney Ayers that I’ve read, and it was really cute! It’s a contemporary paranormal romance, which made for a nice break from the historical romances I’ve been reading lately. Demons Like It Hot is the second book in the Demons Unleashed series, and I suggest that you read the first book (Demons Prefer Blondes) before the second, because I was a little lost at times. Still, the humor and romance were fun, so I’ll be reading more of this author.

Serah SanGermano is a caterer who is deeply in denial about her growing paranormal abilities. She’s always been a bit clumsy, but suddenly she’s able to sense the presence of demons, and they keep appearing and causing serious mischief in her life. In the first book of the series, she and her best friend Lucy opened a chest, unleashing demons (Oops! Note to self: don’t open mysterious chests). Because Serah’s friends are worried about her, she’s assigned a demon bodyguard, Mattias Ambrose, hottie former demon mercenary. But Serah’s plans to drum up clients for her catering business by participating in the reality show American Chef complicates Mattias’s plans to keep her safe, as does the attraction he feels for her.

I love the sense of fun that pervades this novel. Ms. Ayers clearly enjoys her characters and employs humor throughout, which makes this a delight to read. There are lots of snarky jokes, and Serah’s cat, Mr. Whiskers, is a hoot.

The interaction between all the characters is a selling point for me as well. The romance between Mattias and Serah is sizzling, but I really like the strength of Serah’s friendships, especially Lucy. At first the host of American Chef seemed a bit off to me (he was so happy all the time I wondered if he was drinking the kool aid), but his character grew on me over the course of the book. And while Mattias was clearly a loner at first, part of Serah’s appeal for him is the sense of family and belonging he gets from her and her friends.

My one big complaint about the novel is that Serah is INCREDIBLY stubborn about admitting that she does have powers, and this gets annoying fast. She acknowledges to herself that something’s going on and that she’s never had these powers before opening the chest with Lucy, but she refuses to admit it to anyone else. This just drags out for too long, even after demons appear out of nowhere and attack her (at one point blowing up chocolate fondue – good times!). Her friends keep calling her on her stubbornness, but she keeps refusing to believe, which frankly drove me batty.

A minor point that bothered me was Mr. Whiskers’s accent. He’s an imp disguised as a cat to protect Serah, and his dialogue is all written in “Scottish” brogue. I usually have no problems reading accents, but this one was a bit of a struggle, which is a shame, since Mr. Whiskers is hilarious.

This was a cute paranormal with appealing characters and lots of humor. I like that there are good and bad demons, not just evil demons fighting the angels. The secrets in Mattias’s past kept me turning the pages, leading to a somewhat predictable revelation towards the end, but the path to the resolution was so enjoyable, it’s easy to forgive. (less)

She would have all these small klutzy things happen to her or around her and I thought she was just a klutz but really it was some mean demons that were messing with her but she didn't know it at the time. I didn’t realize that this was the second novel in the series until I began it and quickly recognized that I was missing a large portion of the story and important background information. The main characters, Matthias and Serah, met in the first novel of the series, Demons Prefer Blonde’s, but Serah doesn’t remember any of it because Matthias has the rare and unique power of wiping memories. Now Serah is struggling to control her new powers while in denial of the fact that she is not quite human. Matthias, a newly appointed Palladian, has been assigned to protect Serah from nasty demons trying to kill her for her powers and now has to fight with the intense attraction he harbors for Serah while pretending that he’s never met her. And this is one of my main issues with the story; instead of flashing back to the period new readers missed or having Matthias ‘go down memory lane’ to the time he kidnapped, held and began having intimate feelings for Serah the whole instance is missing. Important first meeting, not even included. Now, if you read the first novel, Demons Prefer Blondes, then that’s okay because been there, done that. But if you are a new reader to the series this is vital information that you want to have, needless to say – Demons Like it Hot is NOT a stand alone.

Lacking information on the main characters was one drawback in the story for me but another were the characters themselves. Both Matthias and Serah indecisive in their feelings, actions, motives, EVERYTHING that a relationship between the two seemed inconceivable, I wasn’t buying it. This is one of those novels where the author’s ‘voice’ just wasn’t working for me either. The dialogue was choppy and intense moments would be interrupted by banal thoughts that popped up seemingly out of nowhere, ruining the flow of the plot entirely.

The world built around the characters is interesting with different factions of demons, angels as well as Goddesses but unfortunately when it came to the actually story it fell flat.

However, I will say that if you are already a fan of Sidney Ayers and have read the first novel in this series than you might enjoy this novel a little better than I did. Demons Like it Hot just didn’t work for me. (less)

Demons Like it Hot is an entertaining book. The characters are full of humor and possess various supernatural powers. Serah is primarily a chef, and in Demons Like it Hot, she is preparing to be a guest on a popular cooking show, American Chef. This cooking aspect gives the book a new spin, and the setting is a fun one. Serah is in serious denial about herself though, she knows that she has powers, but she doesn't want to admit that she may be more than human. She is very stubborn on this point, and it gets really old. The girl sees and smells demons, her uncontrolled powers created chaos, and she is a target for demons but she still won't admit she just might be this "pure-blood" human everyone tells her she is. Not only is she wishy-washy on her powers, she is also very undecided about Matthias Ambrose, her protector. She is really a brat to him and she constantly goes back and forth between trusting and hating him. Matthias Ambrose himself is not much better. He is just as stubborn as Serah, and instead of telling the truth, he tries to keep secrets and makes matters with Serah worse.

The paranormal world in Demons Like it Hot includes demons of all kinds, angels, and even gods in human disguises. The world is definitely interesting, and something is always happening in the story. If the characters and the story hadn't been so hot and cold for so long, I really would have loved this one. Nevertheless, the story is entertaining and the characters are fun. I do recommend reading book 1, Demons Prefer Blondes, first though.(less)

It was an interesting premise, just really hard to read. It took me over a week to read it, (normally I inhale books the same length within hours)it just didn't flow well. Iffy dialogue, repetition throughout, a lot of rabbiting on without anything really happening, Serah was too much in denial, it was almost tstl, Mattias was a bit of a cardboard cutout.

Il suo triste tentativo di infarcire i dialoghi (lunghissimi, ripetitivi e, nella maggior parte dei casi, insensati) con battute scontate e per niente divertenti, rende la trama talmente lenta, talmente priva di suspance che io, Bookaholic per eccellenza, ci ho dovuto mettere due settimane per finirlo. Due settimane!!! Che tristezza. L’unica cosa che forse, forse, lo salva dal ricevere un’unica, misera stellina è la copertina che, ammettiamolo, non è male. Gli americani ci lasciano sempre nella polvere per quando riguarda la grafica.

Ma davvero, non ho trovato una sola cosa positiva in questo libro. Aiuto! Beware, lettore! Quando vedi questo titolo, SCAPPA!

Ci ho ripensato, la copertina non vale le due stelle. Diciamo che al posto di zero gliene do una. Penso di non aver mai dato una stella a un libro in tutta la mia vita, significherà qualcosa, non credete?(less)

Unfortunately, this was just not a book that I enjoyed. The possibility was there because the story line was good, but there were so many issues that made the book just annoying. The dialogue was cliche. The characters were constantly contradicting and repeating themselves. It was simply a frustrating book to read.

When I first pick this book up from the shelf at my local public library and read the summary I thought the story will be enticing due to the summary I have just read , but as soon I began I am not even a quarter in to the novel I simply have to drop the book and return it because the way it began was just average , and even if I read it during the day I keep falling asleep due to the monotone dialogues of the characters .

This was a cute, light read. It was fun watching Serah and Matthias try to deny their feelings for each other. It was funny the way she ogled him, since he clearly wasn't the type of man she usually found attractive. The best aspect of the story has to be the humor. I LOVED Mr. Whiskers, a scotch drinking, cigar smoking imp in a cat's body. Wish we could have seen more of him and his Persian goddess.

A great read if you're looking for something light and refreshing.

Funny, feisty and freaking sex-a-licious!!!!

Ayers has crafted another "leave you weak in the knees" tale filled with demons and other interesting paranormal beings. Not one to leave anything to chance, Ms Ayers has penned a tale that was filled with action.....and ACTION ;) Can't say that I am surprised though. After reading Demons Prefer Blondes I have to say that this one didn't dissappoint. In fact it might be even better :)

I don't often have a book that I don't finish and in the case of Demons Like It Hot, I'm not sure why but I could not get into the characters, or the campy humor. However, that isn't to say they were bad, just not for me. My recommendation would be that if you like comedic paranormals, like Mary Janice Davidson's Queen Betsey, then this is for you. Don't think this means I've given up on these guys though, I'm betting it's a mood thing and I'll pick this up at a later date. I'll let ya know.

It was a nice story with some cute parts (a whisky drinking, cigar smoking cat with a scottish accent is pretty amusing), but it doesn't stand alone against all the other paranormal romance i've read before. Its a nice book if you're looking for an easy read.

This one is about Serah and Matthias. Very cute, and many of the characters from the first book are in this one. Most don't play as big a role as in the first book. Matthias has been assigned to protect Serah. Like the humor, wish there was a little more action, but like the characters.

This was just ok for me. I was kinda disappointed. I enjoyed Rafe and Lucy and more than Mathias and Serah. I kinda got bored with it, and Serah got on my nerves a lot. They were both so wishy washy it was annoying.
