Matilda “Wheezer” Choi, the asthmatic who can fly and kick butt courtesy of her nanobyte-enhanced inhalers, loves pro wrestling and hates anything “girlie.” Maybe that’s because she grew up with six brothers—or maybe it’s because her home life has become a battle zone in the conflict between her parents. Unfortunately for Wheezer, when a former member of NERDS turned villa ...more

Nice! The Cheerleaders of Doom is centered around Matilde, the tough as nails, Asian-American, asthmatic, and self prescribed tomboy. There were quite a few messages including a combination of "Beauty is only skin deep.", "Don't judge a book by its cover.", "Follow through on your commitments.", and (my favorite) " Parents divorcing is not the end of the world."

The set up and situation was really interesting. What seemed like an "ugly duckling" cliche turned into something completely different a
I recently read Nerds The Cheerleaders of Doom, a graphic novel by Michael Buckley. The book is all about an agent from NERDS (Matilda Choi) and her time period of becoming a cheerleader just to catch a “mathlete” who has gone to different earths and stole treasures to pay for her plastic surgeries. Also Matilda has to fight with other versions of her to defeat Heathcliff Hodges. The book also contains Matilda’s encounters with herself in gorilla form!

At times this book can be irritating. For ex

Nerds 3 by: Michael Buckley Fiction

Nerds is a secret place where scientist turn nerds into super heroes. In the story the nerds have to stop an evil mastermind named mathlete. She was a former member of nerds but had to move away from the nerds facility. Her plan was to destroy every universe. To stop her, Matilda, one of the nerds, goes to a cheerleading school where she knows mathlete is there. This is a hard task for Matilda because she is more of a tomboy then a girly girl.

Great book! I actually haven't read the first two books in the series, and although I could tell there was plenty of back story that I didn't know, I had no trouble following and enjoying this book on its own.

I loved the snarky sense of humor, the kick-butt girls (and boys!), nerds saving the world, the great librarian, and the whiz-bang gizmos. There are also very realistic and relatable elements -- family life and trying to figure out who you are and how to be yourself in the world -- that wil

The third book in the NERDS series focuses on Wheezer, Matilda Choi. I'm thoroughly enjoying that we get to find out more about each agent as the series progresses. Wheezer's personal family problems are probably relatable with a lot of kids these days. Mom and dad are constantly fighting and are on the verge of divorce. What I like about this particular resolution is that it was realistic. There isn't a happy ending where suddenly her parents get along again, instead, her parents sit down with ...more
The Cheerleaders of Doom By Michael Buckley is an awesome book! i couldnt put it down! Matilda finds out that Gerdie created a machine to destroy the world that Screwball (heathcliff) gave her. Matilda has to become a cheerleader to be able to find Gerdie. i would totally recommend this book to all who have lots of time because it is hard to put down!
I absolutely adore this series, despite being nearly sixteen and going into 11th grade. These kids are just awesome, and while the books can get a bit preachy and...very strange at times, I really enjoy them.

Matilda is my favorite character. Maybe it's because she's a tiny East Asian girl like myself. She's also really awesome.

I saw myself in her so many times throughout this book. Not really sure who to be, trying to be a tomboy, channeling anger into violence. It was quite spot-on, although by
It's a funny book filled with spies, techie stuff, cheerleaders, and plot twists. Plus, I love the math in the book! NERDS books are popular in my classroom. They'll love this one.
This is a really good book, I highly recomend this book but you should'nt read it unless you have read the other two beacause it would be a little confusing if you did'nt.

The third installment for the book series Nerds was a good book. Even though it was a good book it wasn't the kind that has you hanging on the edge of your seat. The details were good but they could have been better. The writing was great but didn't have much detail. The strongest part of the book was when the Nerds team fought the cheerleaders of doom. That part was the part of the book with the best detail. When a team of cheerleaders led by Gerdie Baker builds a device that opens portals to o ...more
Haha this was probably the cutest of the first and second books!!!! It was still just as amazing as the others though!!!!
Wow, I really liked this NERDS book! In my opinion, it is the best one by far ( but I have not read the whole series yet) and I can not wait to read the next book!! I also really loved the quiz after page 61 because of the last question:
Confess something that no one knows about you.

a) I attend a school for wizards
c) I'm the child of a Greek god
d) I'm a detective who investigates crimes committed by fairy tales characters
I can't remeber B but I really liked those options because I liked the Ha
This is book three in National Espionage, Rescue, and Defense Society series or simply Nerds. Five fifth graders who are teased and bullied are secret government agent. Each member has their weakness tweak by a super computer and turned into their greatest asset. This time Matilda Choi aka Wheezer takes the lead on the case. Wheezer suffers from very bad asthma. Her enhanced inhalers give her many advantages including the ability to fly.

This book was outstanding. The writing was adventurous and funny so I would say this is a book for everyone. The strengths of the book was if there was a big fight scene in the book. I would recommend this book to a classmate because it’s a very good story and it’s just a book that everyone will enjoy. This book is in a series and I will continue reading this series. Although the book got boring at time to time I would say others should read this book. So would give this book a 3 out of 5.

This paste eater has a sticky adhesive come out of his hands to walk on walls and ceilings like a spider!Next we have an girl who is allergic to anything-with her nano-chips she can decipher what those allergic reactions are from.Next off is Wheezer. The 4-star rating is an average of my 3-star rating and my boys' 5-star rating.

One thing that I really like about Michael Buckley is that he writes female characters that are smart and strong. Although the Sisters Grimm series features a female main character, this is the first book in the NERDS series to focus on a female secret agent, Matilda Choi. She's been my favorite team member and she lives up to my expectations in this volume.

I thought Nerds: The Cheerleaders of Doom was exciting and surprising. I read this book in two days because every chapter ended on a cliffhanger and I wanted to know what would happen next. The characters were interesting because each person had a special power. This book was very imaginative and I think it would be interesting to visit these places in real life.

This book focuses on Matilda Choi, code name Wheezer. She's a complete tomboy, the only girl in a family of brothers, who really just wants to bash someone's head in. When the NERDS discover a plot to destroy the world, Matilda is chosen to go undercover and ferret out the mastermind. Unfortunately for her, this means getting all girly and going to cheerleader camp, not exactly what Matilda had in mind.

As the book progressed, Matilda grew a lot in her own self-confidence and realized that she co

I recommend this book to kids who are interested in science fun adventures.
Overall it is a good book to read when you don're have anything planned

This third installment of the NERDS (National Espionage, Rescue, and Defense Society) series is my favorite so far. Gerdie, a mathematical prodigy and former member of NERDS, invents a device that allows her to travel to alternate universes and bring things from other dimensions into our own world. This device is causing rips in the fabric of reality, and Matilda "Wheezer" Choi, one of the supertalented kids on the NERDS team, must infiltrate a cheerleading squad in an effort to find Gerdie and ...more
2 1\2 stars. It was okay but lacking and my least favorite of the series. It was boring. I didn't really care for Matilda as a character let alone a main one. I felt like the book focused too much on Matilda's parents not loving each other any more and she's the way she is for attention and they still love her and have seven or eight kids but they can't be together any more. They are separating. What the heck? That Should NOT be the focus of a book especially a MG one. But whatever. My favorite ...more
Once again, a former NERDS agent has gone rogue. Inspired by her scornful, beautiful sisters, Gertie Baker takes advantage of an interdimentional "bridge" machine to steal treasures from other dimentions so that she can become a beautiful, popular cheerleader. Unfortunately, other things besides "treasures" are coming through, and NERDS must stop it.

In order to put an end to this potential disaster, Matilda "Wheezer" Choi must go undercover as a cheerleader, which is totally out of character for
This book was not the best NERDS ever. I actually didn't really like this book. Maybe the author fell asleep
Another round of applause for Mr. Buckley!!!! It's fun and whimsical while still keeping true to the more serious parts.
