Not as powerful as the original Cat in the Hat, but with all the inexorable poignancy of a repetition compulsion, The Cat in the Hat Comes Back draws the marrow from the bourgeois skeletons broken by his original foray into suburban America. Is this crisis or has it now become commentary?--or, more insidiously, is it both?

Subliminally compelling. The reason we lost China and Southeast Asia.

Every child needs to read the Cat in the Hat books. We've read this one many times. As the kids get older and are learning how to read, I have them tackle this book, among many others. The words are easy to sound out and are some of the most common words in the English language. And since they've heard the book so many times already, it's easier for them to read.

Besides, it's fun.

The Cat in the Hat returns on a winter day when two children are given the chore by their mother to shovel snow while she leaves the house.
The cat decides to take a bath, but while doing so, leaves a red ring around the tub, which becomes the most tenacious of "spots" transferring from the tub to a dress, the wall, a rug and more places as the children look on with troubled faces.
To remedy this stain, the cat enlists his helpers Little Cats A, B, C and others to do away w...more

Library - this book has picked up in popularity in the last week. Charlotte still has a hard time sitting through the whole thing, so I usually start it half-way through. This was one of the first Seuss books I remember from my childhood, and one of the only Seuss books on the shelf that Saturday morning that Charlotte hadn't already heard, so I thought it was worth giving it a try.

I will admit here that I had a hippie reaction - there is a line about killing spots with pop-guns th...more

Doesn't measure up to the original Cat in the Hat.

“The Cat in the Hat Comes Back” is a great sequel to Dr. Seuss’ classic book, “The Cat in the Hat” and this time, the Cat in the Hat is up to no good as he accidentally leaves a large pink cat ring in the bathtub while he was eating cake and taking a bath in the tub, which causes mayhem at the boy and girl’s house when the Cat in the Hat tries to clean off the ring out of the bathtub. “The Cat in the Hat Comes Back” is the perfect sequel to a great children’s book that many children will love f...more

My all time favorite Dr. Seuss book is One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish Blue Fish. My second favorite is The Cat in the Hat Comes Back. Recently my son discovered the book for himself at the library and thought it was so much fun that he had to read it to me. I love it when he reads to me.

In the Cat in the Hat Comes Back the children are left home to shovel the snow while the mother is out shopping. The Cat in the Hat makes a reappearance and proceeds to make a mess with the building abs...more

I first came across 'The Cat in the Hat Comes Back' during my translation classes. We discussed it and compared it with its Polish translation. I enjoyed it so much that it even inspired me to use it in my MA thesis. I really like the book, as it's full of humour, it's easy to read and follow.
I only have a Polish book that includes an English text at the back. And here is my question: could anybody be so kind and provide the references of an English book? I'd be very grateful!

My son loves the Cat in the Hat and he was thrilled to discover that he could almost read this book on his own!

The Cat in the Hat pops back into the lives of Sally and her brother and quickly makes a mess. This time he brings along 26 Cats, that live in his hat, and they perform all sorts of wild acts in an attempt to clean up the mess.

Dr. Seuss has a way of making simple, easy to read text into something extraordinary. The illustrations are just as special.

Like all sequels, it's not as good as the original. At times I found the plot to be very thin and weak. I questioned why the Cat would come back. After all, the children had so viciously berated the poor Cat at the end of the first novel. The absence of Thing 1 and Thing 2 was NOT explained, and quite frankly, I felt cheated out of an explanation. Where did they go? A simple sentence like, "They went to Whoville," would have sufficed. A good read none the less though.

John is on a huge Dr. Seuss kick. He giggled and laughed all the way through this book. Basically the cat comes back and creates a pink spot in the kids' bathtub, which he transfers to a dress, then to a wall and so on until he gets it out into the snow. Finally he cleans up the snow. His helpers in this book are the Little Cats A through Z, whom he keeps in his hat. It was fun to share with the boys.

John's favorite part: All the little cats playing in the snow.
Jack Kirby and the X-man
The Cat in the Hat is not my favourite Dr. Seuss book - and lets face it a sequel is rarely better than the original.

What I do like about this book is that it becomes an alphabet book, without the alphabet becoming all-consuming (e.g. "A is for Apple").

This book is good to teach children how to blend words. It is about a cat who made a mess and then he figure since he is making a mess why don't he just paint the whole house with pink to solve the problem. At firs the children was scare but finally the problem was fixed by the cat. This is just one of Dr. Seuss book to teach children how to blend words.

Cat in the hat is such a great character and we love this book. We had to change a few of the words because in the book, Cat in the Hat is referred to as "bad." This upset Nakyla because she loves Cat in the Hat and it made her sad that something she loves could be bad. So we took that word out and now the book is great.
Kim
AVOID. We only got this because we were so sick of reading the original. The drawings are sub par and the meter is off in so many spots that we have changed the wording so it flows better! Not to mention the gunplay ... of course now it's our son's favorite book and we have to read it at least 2x/day.

I don't know why I liked this better than The Cat in the Hat. I guess it's probably because the little helpers in his hat were so fun to do voices for. The smaller they got, the higher pitched I read their voices. Part of the fun in children's books is in the telling.

just read this book again to Kirtin my grandaughter !!! Our home is literacy rich and I have to read the favorites over and over again. Kirtin read the book to me first then I read it to her we do that sometimes fight over reading ! I love to read aloud and so does she.
Tate Rytky
Tate says he would like a Little Cat for himself, like Little Cat Z who is too hard to see. I've noticed -- in any book, not just Seuss -- Tate's favorite characters always seem to be the underdogs, or the little characters who play an integral part of the storyline.
Chris
the kids mom wants them to shovel their snow and while their snow shoveling the cat comes and goes in the house and eats cake in the tub with the hot water going and the cold to so the kid turns off the water anddrains the tub but he finds a red ring around it.
Leftbanker
As far as sequels go I would have to rate this one right up there with The Godfather II. The only problem is that the ending is so abrupt that when I finish I always feel like there must be a few pages missing from my copy of the book.
Arlene
I read this book to my granddaughters. They love hearing about the Cat. Dr. Seuss writes books that grown-ups can enjoy while they are reading them to children.
Wastell Mcneil
This is about the cat who returns and gets into mischief in the kids house. They want him out so they can clean up his mess. I would use this to talk about things that should and shouldn't be done around a house or classroom setting for that matter.
Alex
I find this one slightly more tedious than the original, but the journey of the pink ring within (and without) the house gives this sequel more coherence. Also teaches the alphabet, recursion, and, um, the importance of cleaning up.

The title of this book is The Cat in the Hat Comes Back, by Dr.Seuss. It is very interesting and funny. I recommend it to childrens 4 to 8 years old. I learned from this book not to make dissaster when my parents are not at home.

Little Cat Z has the restoring power to put everything in order. The Voom! Holy Spirit? You can't see it, but it's there! For God, no mess is too messy . . . "See, I am making all things new!" (Revelation 21:1-5)

It was good. Wanna hear my favorite part? My favorite part was the one when all the little cats were getting the snowballs with pop guns and smashers and suction cup arrows. It was awesome! I loved it.

I almost like this one better than the first. The story is a bit more linear as they try to get rid of the pink spot whereas the first seems to be "what can we mess up next before Mom gets home.
Beth
The Cat in the Hat uses the Little Cats from his hat (A-Z) to help clean up the colored snow. This book is delightful for children to hear and they review the alphabet that we hold so dear.
