Way too many basic spelling and punctuation mistakes. One of the stories, hOur Room [sic], has several such gaffs per page. Weird line returns all over the place (page count padding?). None of this is the fault of the writers--some of whom probably aren't writing in their first language. Leads me to suspect the editor has just copy/pasted without actually editing anything at all.

This is an interesting little paperback of fiction by English-speaking expats living in China. It's stories about the high weirdness that is the modern Chinese experience. The writing ranges from decent-if-MFAish to actually quite awesome. My favorite piece is the opener, "The Devoured Man" by Josh Stenberg, about the general atmosphere of corruption that surrounds a journalist's efforts to cover even the most basic of interesting events in a tiger zoo.
