Mr. Lincoff is the real deal. He's the US's top expert on mushrooms - look at the credits in field guides, and you will see him. So if you're going (or went) into this book skeptical...why be scared?

Contained within is a beautiful and detailed guide to the most beginner-friendly and tasty mushrooms, the non-edible sort for your caution (or, ahem, enjoyment), info on mushrooms in world cultures, adventure anecdotes from the author, recipes, and even a lovely section on mushroom arts & crafts!

This is one those books in glad I purchased for reference.

Some of the information is colloquial but it breaks up the dry information of a strictly reference book.

Some of the prose I found hard to follow.

The pictures are excellent quality.

This book is clear and well-written. It has great tips. The only thing I would have liked is more interesting mushrooms that aren't necessarily well-known but are still edible. It's great for starting out though.
