5+ stars. Wow. Wow, wow, wow. I still feel somewhat under the spell of this book. I'm so ... beguiled by it ;-) (book allusion). It was honestly an amazing read - and one which I meant to just skim a few sample pages of, but ended up buying and then staying up the entire night to finish. I wasn't even sure I wanted to write a review, because it seemed too difficult to put into words everything that moved me about this story and to try to do it justice.

This was a poorly written, utterly ridiculous, never ending mess as a fan fiction. The speed with which they "published" this indicates that they merely conducted a find and replace on the names and did not put in a good faith edit or rewrite the highly problematic storylines (read: the entire thing). The writing is insipid and juvenile. The characters are static, one dimensional, and unbelievably vacuous. (And also sound suspiciously and consistently British though they are supposed t

“Sex is more than an act of pleasure, it's the ability to be able to feel so close to a person, so connected, so comfortable that it's almost breathtaking to the point you feel you can’t take it. And at this moment you're a part of them.

I don't enjoy writing bad reviews, honestly it puts a sick feeling in my stomach, but at the moment I am feeling too annoyed not to write one. So please don't get snarky - I do realise I am in the minority with my opinions.
OK, I couldn't finish this book. I tried, holy hell did I try - but by 88% I was so annoyed I had to put it down.

I wasn't going to read it anyway, because I'm not going to pay $10 for Twilight fanfic, but read the comments.

Finished this in one night. This is positively the epitome of erotic, and not for the faint of heart. The most sensual romance I think you can possibly get your hands on--full of BDSM elements.
What really surprised me was how deep this was--it's actually very heartbreaking and dark. An emotional roller coaster. Ana and Christian's relationship is so consuming, dangerous, passionate, sweet, and unhealthy, all at the same time. So you're rooting for it one minute and the next yo More...

Am I allowed to like this book? Because believe it or not, I was kind of vibing on Fifty Shades of Grey, fanfiction or not. But come on - if I saw this woman's "inner goddess" dancing one more time, I was about to reach into the book and stab her with a bookmark...and I was reading on an ereader.
What I ended up liking about the book completely surprised me. It wasn't the sex (although More...

Let me start by saying.... Wow! Just Wow!!
This book is 5+ stars for me!! It is my favorite kind of story. You know what I mean...just so intense that the characters get so far under your skin that you can't stand to be away from them for any length of time? Well, that was me while reading this book, I couldn't concentrate to get anything done :)
There are a lot of reviews on this book, and obviously the majority love it, so I am simply going to explain some of the reasons More...

Second read 2/9/12-2/13/12
I loved this just as much the second time as I did the first time I read it. I had forgotten just how much I love me some Fifty!!!
This book is not for the faint of heart. Christian is controlling and broken in a way that just broke my heart. Ana is at times a wishy-washy and a bit childish, but she is thrust into a world that she doesn't understand by a man she cannot seem to forget. So I found myself asking, just how much you give up for an More...

I didn’t want to start this book. Many people are praising it but I’m simply not into erotica, it’s too cheap for me. But here I am in the mind of the innocent waiting to be devoured by the big bad wolf. Sounds pornographic, doesn’t it? That’s because it is…

2.5 stars. (Sorry Juliana & Anna!)
I don't think I've ever read a book that's left me quite as bemused as this one has. The writing left a lot to be desired, the heroine didn't impress me at all and yet I find myself wanting to pre-order the next in the series.
After having a day to let this sink in I have to try and put my feelings succinctly into a review. How do I say this exactly... Anastasia damn near killed me. There were just too many things about her that turned me More...

I have finished your novel, and while I’m aware that it was derived from fan fiction, I was a bit apprehensive about reading. It seems that all the shining reviews made me very curious, so I had to go with my gut and take the plunge. I'm not sure if I'm spilling a lot of the goods here, so I'm not going to put up a spoiler warning, cause (to me) most of it seems pretty well-duh-worthy.
I don't know, this is like the BDSM version of Edward and Bella, and half of the time I don't know if I should be turned on or scared as hell. Probably both. It's not like I didn't know what was going to happen, and the subject is miles and miles away from my own personal interests in that area, but I can't help but relate to Ana wh More...

What does it say that I read this book the first week in December and I have already felt the need to re-read it. Why am I not surprised that it is even better the second time around. I absolutely cannot get enough of my Christian & Ana. Note - second read 1/9/12-1/12/12.
WOW. I am still reeling from reading this book. I would actually give this book infinity stars. It is in a category all by itself. I'm not sure where to begin. I was bawling my eyes out when I finished readin More...

Fifty Shades of Grey, (Fifty Shades #1) by E. L. James is a fantastic debut contemporary erotica romance novel (with some BDSM elements) that I absolutely loved. The magnetism between Christian and Ana is nothing short of phenomenal. Ms. James has a way of engaging the reader and fully investing them in an unforgettable romance that is Mr. Grey & Ms. Steele. They are a perfect foil for each other.

This is pretty much the same exact story that was posted as MOTU online. The only difference (other than the character names and a few minor details) appears to be that this book ends in a spot that leaves the reader hanging (like a cliffie in fanfiction) and seems designated solely to ensure that we buy the next book as well.
I won't be.

I really must be behind the times, because I had not a clue what fan fiction was all about. Honestly, that's probably a good thing because I probably would have never read this book...which, by the way was wonderful and fantastic and not at all what I would have expected from fan fiction. From the descriptions I have read, fanfic is not my kind of read. Actually, I am not certain I am clear on that genre, but I digress, that is a topic for another day...

well, it seems like I'm may the only one who gives this book one star?
I'm sorry but I don't understand how anyone can give it more that that. This book really is FIFTY SHADES OF FUCKED UP SHIT.

So here are my thoughts, in no particular order:
What I liked about it:
The POV. I rarely like first person, but this -- well. For some reason I loved Ana's voice. I must have identified with her quite strongly, because I even found her "inner goddess" amusing. She seemed very real to me (with the exception of her complete sexual inexperience. I found that to be a bit of a stretch), and I liked her very much.

This is the first time I have read a book in this genre but after reading so many great reviews I couldn't resist and succumbed to the allure of Fifty Shades.
First I have to point out I was worried I would be disgusted by what I may encounter due to the nature of the genre, but I was extremely surprised. The book was not too gratuitous with the BDSM, but focused on the developing relationship between Christian and Ana and Christian's fetish was more of a backdrop into his personality More...

By now most of you have heard about the hoopla surrounding the very popular Fifty Shades trilogy by E.L. James. Fifty Shades of Grey has an astounding 4,300 reviews on Goodreads and all three books are currently the top three best selling digital books on Amazon for erotica. There’s also quite some controversy surrounding E.L., this series and how it was published. (http://gentleblaze.livejournal.com/514.h...) From what I understand, Fifty Shades of Grey was originally titled, Master of the Univ

I got this book because I kept seeing all of these five star reviews from my Goodreads friends, and their reviews were curiously spoiler free which I'm glad of because there are a few things that if I'd known about them ahead of time, I probably wouldn't have read it and then I'd have missed out on a really great book. So, in the spirit of that instead of gushing about all of the reasons I think you SHOULD read this book, I'm going to tell you three reasons why this may not be the book for you.

Oh....MY!
where do I begin?
At first I was on the fence with this. I could not, in any way shape or form, get into Ana and her total ignorance at life! Yes I know that it is crude to say. But....how can she graduate college and not have a laptop? Let alone a freakin cellphone?!......fast forward a lot of pages, and she get's a little more tolerable. Tolerable as in she stops freakin blushing every freakin second....
