In Born at Midnight we meet Della Tsang, Kylie Galen’s vampire roommate at Shadow Falls camp. But Della wasn’t always a vampire. This is her story.

***

Turned at Dark is a quick, fun and at times humorous short story about how Della became a vampire and how she ended up at Shadow Falls. It is a prequel to the full length book, Born at Midnight, which will be releasing in two weeks.

This is a great way to introduce this new series, get a feel for the author’s writing style and meet one of the more i...more

Having already read and quite enjoyed Born at Midnight, the first book in the Shadow Falls series, I thought I knew what I was getting into when I started Turned at Dark, a prequel short story to the Shadow Falls series. But really I had no idea.

Turned at Dark tells the story of Della and her transformation from Asian American teen, under a tremendous amount of pressure from her pride-stricken father to bloodsucking vampire. I really enjoyed the realistic issues Della faced before her transforma...more

4 Stars for this Novella and Pre-Story forBorn at Midnight !

The perfect start in this series since it tells the story about Kylie's newfound best girlfriend Della and how she became a Vampire. Perfect to get in the mood, or if you are already read BaM and are now waiting anxiously for Awake at Dawn...

Woops, and did I mention it is a free download?? ;)

I was thrilled when I found out that C.C. Hunter’s Born At Midnight, one of my anticipated reads for this year, has a prequel and it's available up on the publisher’s site and we can all read it for free! So I went there in a heartbeat and read it.

Turned At Dark is a quick-read yet it includes ideas and glimpses on what to expect on Born At Midnight. I really enjoyed Della as a character and I also like the fact that she was actually a human first. I though...more

Turned at Dark is a novella for the Shadow Falls Series. Last week I gave you a bit of insight to Kylie’s friend, Della. Well this is all about Della!

Della is such a character. The moment I read about her in Born at Midnight, I knew I’d enjoy her. So when I found out she had her own novella, I couldn’t wait to read it.

Della is the resident vampire at Shadow Falls summer camp and like others. She’s learning where she fits into the world now that she’s been turned. Now Della wasn’t bitten, so ther...more

The Shadow Falls series is one of my all time favourite series, I'm on the 'Street Team' for the series to help promote it, It's just one of those series that captures your heart and mind.
I downloaded this short story a while ago and was really excited to read it, but I had to finish the book I was reading then it ended up in my 'pile'. If you watched my TBR video I posted yesterday, I went through everything I had and I saw this listed. As it was only 32 pages I decided to dive in.

This a short story in the world of Born at Midnight.

We follow Della Tsang through her transformation into a vampire and her introduction to the worlds darkest creatures. Werewolfs, faes, shape-shifters, vampires, they are all there. The story was short and simple and after it I started reading the first few chapters of Born at Midnight, only to realise that the fear I had was true.

These series isn't really for me. Maybe in the future I'll give it a shot, but not now...

Della is just like anybody else… trying to please her parents and she sneaks around with Lee, her boyfriend. But then Della sees the ghost of her cousin Chan in the streets after a party. She goes to investigate and stumbles upon what she assumes is a gang war. She learns that ghosts aren’t always ghosts and there is such a thing as the supernatural. Chan tries to explain to her that their family carries the vampirism virus, but she doesn’t believe it and goes to the hospital. There she meets a...more

This is a short story from the Shadow Falls series.
This gives the expanded background story on Della, and how she ended up at the camp. It's nothing vital, considering she explains what happened to her in the first book. However, it was short and free. So, definitely not a bad thing if you want to kill ten minutes.

Excellent story. It's the first story of the Shadow Falls series that I've read and I will definitely begin reading the other books right away now! The story is so easy to read and get into. Although the Vampire / Werewolf thing has been done before, I like the twist this takes so far and I'm looking forward to getting into the actual story.

The descriptions and dialogue are all well done. The main character, Della, is another strong young female character. Can never have enough of those!! :) Si...more

As you may know from reading Born at Midnight, the first book of the Shadow Falls series, Della Tsang is Kylie Galen's Vampire friend. Here, we learn how Della was turned into a vampire and how she came about Shadow Falls. We also go into a bit more depth of Della's life before Shadow Falls and a brief history about Supernaturals. Warning though: like Forgotten Lyrics by Amanda Hocking (which I'm currently reading), it's a quick read. Actually, even...more

Story Breakdown:

After attending a party, Della is attacked and injured. She is saved by her cousin. . . who is supposed to be dead. Della learns that he is a vampire and that she isn’t so normal herself, or even as human as she would like to think.

Character Highlights:

Della - I believe Della will be a secondary character in the rest of the Shadow Falls series if the blurbs I’ve read are correct (I dou...more

Eventhough this book was short, I really enjoyed it!! CC Is amazing and each of her books get better and better!
This book covers the life of Della Tsang, the vampire at Shadow Falls Camp and how she came to be after her cousin Chan who is also a gang member turned her. Her boyfriend was a jerk and her parents thought she was using drugs. So she turns to Holiday Brandon, the leader at the camp for help. That's where it ends and goes right into Born at Midnight, the first book in the Shadow Falls...more

This is a prequel short story to the Shadow Falls novel series, starring Della Tsang, who is the roommate of the title character in the series, Kylie Galen. This is the story of how this friend was changed from a normal half-Chinese-half-Caucasian teenager into a vampire. As far as these prequels go, I thought it was pretty good. It's a decent length, and most of my Kindle file was the actual short story, not the preview...more

Turned at Dark, the prequel to Born at Midnight, was consuming. Della, the main character, was an unbeliever of the supernatural. For her, vampires, werewolves and other mythical creatures simply did not exist. But one night, something happens that led her to believe that they do exist in her world.

Della Tsang’s transformation was wonderfully written. The way how the ‘virus’ spreads was also unique. It was less mythical and less magical, more medical. Della’s disbelief, hesitation and worry that...more

Turned at Dark is a novella in the Shadow Falls Series for which I am definitely going to read. It follows 16 year old Della Tsang who has never seen a ghost until the night she sees her dead cousin Chan zipping across the street and ducking into an alley. Chan has been dead for less than a year, or so she thought. Della actually attended his funeral. Della is hardhead and refuses to believe what is right in front of her with a world full of Vampires, Shape-shifters, Fae,...more

I had actually found this book as a free download at B&N weeks before stumbling upon Born at midnight. and to be honest.. didn't make the connection until part way through B.A.M !! It was fate. After Finishing C.C. Hunter's first book in the Shadow Falls series I HAD to have more, and lucky me I had this to fall back on!

With the same lighthearted and fun feel that we get from Born at Midnight C.C. let's us in on Della's tale of how she was turned into a vampire and made her way to Shadow f...more

This novella took us along for a ride with Della, a normal teenager, who is happy at home, has friends, and a boyfriend she is crazy about. All until one night she thinks she sees the ghost of her cousin. She ends up in the middle of a gang fight and from there life gets really strange. She finds out that her cousin isn't dead, but a vampire and that he has activated the vampire virus in her, after a very sick few days she wakes up and starts to learn about the new Della, while trying to figure...more

Book was short--a detail that I missed when I bought the ebook. lol The story confused me a little bit since the first chapter of the book that started the series was included. This short story did not have the include the character that is in the first book of the series. Shadow Fall Series and first book is Born at Midnight. Not sure if I will read the series since this lead-in story was ok but not great. Nice quick read though.

This was a delicious little snippet into Della Tsang. I loved getting to know her a bit better in this story. It really helps you understand her in the Shadow Falls world.

I would love other little treats like this from other characters point of view. It really helps you better understand where they are coming from.

I heard a rummer there is going to be a spin off series to Shadow Falls featuring Della. I hope it is true! She has so much of a story to tell!
Quirky Dreamer
I usually love the shadow falls books. But this one wasn't that good. I loved it, but I wished that she went into the wait of shadow falls, and having to hide her vampirism. I would also like it how she asked her family about shadow falls. But I love how she became a vampire. I loved it, I just wished that she added more of an ending.

I've picked Born at Midnight up off a shelf a couple times and always put it back. It was one of those books that sounded fun, but very cliche. Especially the fact that the description puts it out there that this has a love triangle. That put it on the "I'll read only if it's the only book available" list.

This little short changed that. It was well written a very funny in parts. Vampires are my least favorite paranormal creatures and I tend to shy away if they're the main creatures in the story....more

This was a short story about Della, recently turned vamp who befriended Kylie in the first Shadow Falls book. Della was one of my favorite characters in the series and I loved to get to know her better. To be completely honest, this novella just made me wish that Della was the main character of this series, not whiny Kylie.

This short story to me was just.... Vampire gif photo: tumblr_lxb9u6o3zn1r516t3.gif .....meh!!
I am reading Born at Midnight and really enjoying it. I like most of the side characters from that book, including Della. This little short story is about her, Della, and how she became a vampire. It was okay. I mean, I guess I know Della a little better now. She has one strict family, and I felt a little bad for her. But that was it, nothing really happen other than what Della went trough as she was "turning". It's a really short story so I'm g...more

A nice setup for the Shadow Falls series. I mean, it was interesting enough that I'm looking at the 1st book in the series with an acquisitive gleam in my eye. That must count for something, right?

I liked the different take on vampires here. Well, not that the vampires are different, exactly, but I like that the way a vampire is created is different. It's funky. There was no biting involved. I liked it. Of course, I like the biting part too, but I liked that CC Hunter gave us mythology that was...more

C.C. Hunter grew up in Alabama, where she caught lightning bugs, ran barefoot, and regularly rescued potential princes, in the form of Alabama bullfrogs, from her brothers. Today, she's still fascinated with lightning bugs, mostly wears shoes, but has turned her focus to rescuing mammals. She now lives in Texas with her four rescued cats, one dog, and a prince of a husband, who for the record, is...more
