There are not many books out there that are so simple yet, so effective to change our understanding of the Gospel. The book is not a theological treatise on the subject of the Gospel. But, Tullian does bring the Gospel into the here and now, into the practical implications of what Jesus Christ has done for us. He helps us as Christians apply the Gospel to very difficult experiences in the Christian life. He constantly bring us back to the finished work of Christ in the gospel and brings out from

Normally when I write a book review, I have a firm opinion of whether or not I liked the book. However, this book still has me puzzled and thinking. I guess you could take that as the sign of a good book. One thing is for sure, Tullian Tchividjian is an excellent writer. In this book, Pastor Tullian weaves the story of his difficult times at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church (and his near ouster as pastor) together with a running commentary on the book of Colossians. Whether you agree with his the

Have you ever felt as though every aspect of your life was under siege? That the work you were doing, the life you were living, and the way you were doing things were all somehow going wrong? I know I have; indeed, there have been days when I couldn’t seem to get my bearings – when it felt as though there was absolutely nothing certain, including gravity! In this book, Pastor Tullian relates how God used a period like that in his own life to draw him into the gospel in a deeper way.

This book seems so simple, so straightforward. I have to admit, though, that I struggled through it. I had to read in small bites and process it, because much of what I read pertained to me. The premise is that all we need is Jesus, and we don't have to add anything to what He is and has already done, in order to have all we need. Sure, every Christian can say we believe that, but how many of us live that out? Despite how far God has brought me out of legalism, this book brought out more spo

This was a fantastic, uplifting and gem of a book! Based mostly on the book of Colossians, the author takes us through how Jesus is all we have and all that we need for living the Christian life. Once we are saved, we often attempt to live out the Christian life in our own strength and ability, failing miserably. We need to continue to preach the gospel to ourselves, not only that we are saved by Christ's death on our behalf, but that we have been made righteous already in God's eyes through Chr

Powerful. Helps me understand all that Christ has already done for me. I view the world in a different way after listening to Tullian's messages and reading this book.

This book by Tullian Tchividjian had a great start, a great premise, and a great title. I mean, with a Title like that, who wouldn't pick this up? For me, the equation sums up everything, if they made a T-shirt, I'd buy it, because this is exactly how I feel.
I came into this book hopeful, and the first couple chapters went along fairly well. Mr. Tchividjian is obviously well educated in both the scriptures and in the commentaries on the scriptures. He quotes everyone from St. Augu More...

“Jesus + Nothing = Everything” by Tulian Tchividjian is the type of book I intend to pick up at least once a year. It is a beautiful reminder of the all sufficient nature of the grace offered by God through Jesus Christ. Too often, as Tchivijian points out, the western church gets trapped in trying to earn our way into God’s favor. We pride ourselves in the size of our congregations or the amount of students attending our outreach event, forgetting that God’s grace draws us into His community fo

Tullian Tchividjian's Jesus + Nothing = Everything examines the fundamental truth of the gospel and how to embrace Christ's finished work for believers. I would not describe it as an exposition of Colossians, but Colossians features prominently. I would not describe it as a spiritual memoir or a particularly personal work, but occasional details of Tchividjian's difficult year transitioning through a church merger and feelings of inadequacy provide a thread for readers.

I am familiar with the author, having read some of his story in one of Ruth Bell Graham's books(he is her grandson). We are also members of the same denomination, and when I heard that he was going to become pastor of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church(following the founding pastor who had been there for decades), I figured he might be in for a rough time.My life in 2010 had some of the same struggles that Tchividjian went through in 2009--death of a beloved parent, difficulty in church and ministr

The recent trend of Gospel-centrality has fueled the young Reformed movement and a host of new books by well known bloggers and pastors. It's not so much a "trend" as it is a reawakening to the major truth of the Bible. Tullian Tchividjian (cha-vi-jin, rhymes with religion), the grandson of Billy Graham, is one of the best voices of this re-introduction to the Gospel.

In the midst of an extremely difficult season of ministry, Tchividjian led his church through a series on the book of Colossians, a fateful journey that saved his ministry and probably much more. Tchividjian walks the reader through the Jesus presented here by Paul: creator, redeemer, savior, Lord. In short, the Jesus who Paul sketches out in his letter is HUGE – His character is perfect; His power is unrivaled; His completed work on the cross needs no supplement. Tchividjian reflects on the

Tullian is consistently all-gospel all the time. If you like things you hear from Elyse Fitzpatrick, Jerry Bridges, Michael Horton and others you'll enjoy this book. This book doesn't prevent heavy exegesis but it does unpack Colossians in a personal narrative form, interweaving Tullian's church merger difficulties into insights the Lord gave him from Colossians. It's an A+ in terms of helpfulness and biblical fidelity (I always need more grace and less legalism!) but if you're looking for "

What will your life took like lived under the banner that reads. It is finished. However, during our life time Christians do not live their lives under this banner. They are adding to it or taking from it. Growth always happens in grace, not in our behaviour. We make the focus on ourselves not what Jesus as done. Which is what the Gospel is all about. Which is why we need the Gospel 24/7. We need a understanding of what the Gospel means so we can live our lives freely unto the Lord. The

I first heard of Tullian Tchividjian about a year and a half ago when I was given the opportunity to review his book Surprised by Grace: God's Relentless Pursuit of Rebels. Since then, I've been really blessed through his blog, online videos, and other resources. I really appreciate the message he's trying to get across.
His latest book, Jesus + Nothing = Everything is the culmination of this message. Based on a sermon series on Colossians he did by the same name, it tells the story of More...

My full review can be read at Blogging Theologically:
Do you ever feel like you’re just spinning your wheels in terms of your relationship with Christ? You’re trying, trying, trying to “go deeper,” to serve well, to do all the things that we’re supposed to do as Christians—and you’re just stuck? Why does this happen to us? Why do we feel this constant need to do-do-do, as if we’re trying to impress someone?
Is it because we are?

Great book that acts like a fire hose of the Gospel. A larger review will be coming soon but my main issue with this book was that I read Tchividjian's blog so much that I did not seen that much new material in the book. The last chapter was very good but I had read it before over the course of 2 blog posts in the past year that were some of my favorites. If you don't read his blog, this will all feel very fresh and will be a refreshment to you. It was a refreshment to me but not as much as it c

This is a great book against Satan's ways of legalism. Everyone who hates this book because they in their moralistic minds thinks it's anti-nomian is standing on quicksand. The good news this book will help with eliminating moralism and legalism in gospel preaching. Warning: The Federal Visionist as the Romanist and Theonomist will be angry with this book.

It's so easy once we start and restart with grace and the Gospel to fall back into our list of checkboxes and our me-centered fix it theology and forget where the real power is, the blood of Christ, His statement "It is finished" and His crazy resurrection. Pastor Tullian's serious breaking down of Colossians has 2x4'd me. When we really believe that Jesus+nothing=everything we are freed to live and to trust without this heavy, looming sense of failure and overwhelming responsibility.

This book and Because He Loves Me by Elyse Fitzpatrick (whom TT quotes) have really helped me to understand the Gospel in a way I had never, ever understood. How could I have been so blind?

starting it soon--appreciated an article he wrote in leadership journal related to the book's topic and dealing with a dark night in his ministry!

Phenomenal book! I love how the Gospel permeates through this book. It really cause me to reevaluate how the gospel was/is shaping my life.

The gospel is not just how we become Christians, but how we live and grow as Christians. This is a wonderful book.

Great stuff! Only reason I gave it three stars is because it's just a book of derivative insights. Nothing original. But good nevertheless. His style may really resonate with some people - a barage of powerful and pithy one-liners.

An excellent book on the realities of salvation and implications of it i.e. sanctification & justification have the same source of power, namely the gospel of Jesus Christ. If you want to further understand the gospel, this is the book for you.

For some reason this book did not 'click' with me until I was halfway through. Once I got to that point, I found chapter after chapter very helpful. Perhaps I should read it again to see if I was missing something in those first chapters, but for now I'll give four stars instead of five. Despite the slow start (for me, at least), I highly recommend this book to those seeking to understand how the truth of the gospel operates in the day-to-day life of a Christian.

Great overview of Colossians. The illustrations alone are reason to read this book. He pulls from some very significant authors like Augustine but also from some that I hadn't heard of as well.

A quick and straightforward read, but digs to the root of grace and the idols we build to add to Jesus and mere Christianity. He talks of moralism, legalism, and back-door legalism (i.e. rebellion). A very approachable look at grace and the opposite thereof, but one that will cause you to examine your heart and identify your own idols. great book!
