I first picked up Baby It's Cold Outside because it is set in Alaska. I'm obsessed with Alaska lately because I believe I need to be an Alaskan Mob Princess. I don't actually want to do any mob-type stuff; I just like the name. I digress. BICO was more than the setting and more than the cheesy quick read that I guessed it would be.

Baby It’s Cold Outside is the first book in Addison Fox’s contemporary romance Alaskan Nights series. It’s tough being the first book in any series because you have to spend a lot of time introducing characters, building and painting the sets of our minds’ stages, and somehow manage to tell a good story that sets us up for all the books to follow. Sadly many times the first book is the best in the series, never quite capturing the same magic or charm in the books that come after it. Even more fr...more

I'm so glad I picked this book up at the library. It's my first book by Fox and I wasn't disappointed. I was torn between 3 and 4 stars. Again wishing for the half star. This is probably closer to a 3 1/2 star, but is getting the round up since I loved the women in this book. They are strong, witty, and loyal.

Sloane was a great lead. She didn't take any crap and was ready to fight for her friend and once the romance picked up herself. She didn't let anyone walk all over her and I loved that. Ev...more

This was such a good start to an awesome series and I came to care about all the people we met.
The three grandmothers who wanted to get their grand-sons married, a potential romance between the doctor and a grandmother, the grieving widower Jack and Jess, Mick and Grier and even Avery and her teenage romance with hockey star Roman beyond the main romance between Sloan and Walker.

Sloan makes her way to Alaska to give support to her best friend Grier who is fighting with her newly discov...more

My Review:

This isn't a holiday book per se, but it does take place in snowy Alaska during the holiday season, so I snuck it into my holiday read pile. This book was a really good contemporary romance. It is the first book in a trilogy and you get to see glimpses and see the beginnings of all three romances that the series is going to follow. This book is about Sloan & Walker. Sloan is a NYC girl who has come to Alaska to give moral support to her friend Grier (her book is the second in the s...more

“I see picnics and dates with you, Walker. And it pisses me off. You’re supposed to be fling material and instead you look at me the way you do and you engage in snowball fights and you even think I’m sexy in the most hideous hat in the entire world. So, yeah. You make me think of mushy shit.”

Fun Holiday Read

NOTE: I am so glad that Book Club picked Baby It's Cold Outside by Addison Fox---it was such a perfect pick for the Holiday Season!

LOVED: The gals of the Alaskan Nights series are a hoot! If you have ever had really good girlfriends that will do anything for you then you know these ladies. They are fun, smart, quippy, and supportive. I dare you not to feel like you are part of their group. The grandmothers are also a hoot---Add...more

What a fun book. I really like romances that take place in Alaska (something about long cold nights and rugged men) and this was one of the best ones I've read. Sloan got a call from her friend Grier and headed up to Alaska for some moral support. Pretty soon she found herself involved in the local bachelor contest while writing an article about it. She was especially interested in Walker, who was interested in her on a purely temporary basis - or so he thought. Sloan was a very independent mode...more

This is a pretty cute little romance set in the snowy town of Indigo in Alaska. Sloan is a very middle class New Yorker who, much to the horror of her mother, is over 30 and as yet unwed.

Her friend Grier has gone to Indigo to resolve an inheritance issue with the Father she never knew and calls on Sloan to come and visit her. Sloan agrees and her and Grier befriend Avery who works in the local hotel/bar. These 3 girls will feature as the heroines of the 3 novels (so far) of the Alaska Nights tri...more

Sloan McKinley's society mom is pushing her to find a husband, so when her best friend Grier needs her help in Alaska, it's a perfect excuse to escape. Grier's estranged father died and she was named as a beneficiary in his will, along with a half sister she had never met. Unfortunately, her half sister is a bitch and the residents of small town of Indigo, Alaska, are mostly siding with her and shunning Grier. Three of Indigo's...more

Favorite Quote: “I want to start each new year with a kiss and I want to spend each and everyday of each and every one of those years kissing the man I love.“

New York socialite Sloan McKinley is tired of her mother’s constant attempts to marry her off so when her best friend, Grier, calls her from Alaska, Sloan decides that a change of scenery is just what she needs. When Sloan arrives, she realizes the trouble Grier has been having wi...more

I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this contemporary romance from Addison Fox. The premise, which is that a trio of Alaska grandmothers hold a yearly competition where bachelorettes compete for the honor of dating their grandsons, could have been too twee for words. But it was just a hook for what turned out to be a fun, and pitch perfect tale about friendship (both male and female), family, and falling in love. There were several relationships threaded throughout the story and I worried th...more

Personally, the plot was great and funny, but miss Fox just put too many characters having the same problem but not quite...I wasn't so mad at the begining until I understood she actually wanted to give each couple a chance to make their situation understandable, but it felt incomplete, at least for the two other couples left hanging...I know this is book is a part of a set, but I feel like each character like Avery, Grier and Jessica...when she actually gave Jessica her own happy ending I thoug...more

A really great book by a new-to-me author Addison Fox.
This book is the beginning of her contemporary series about three friends in a small town in Alaska.
The first book is about a freelance journalist and the town lawyer who come together through their mutual friend/client Grier and sort of find love and happiness around the time of the Bachelor Games. A competition designed by three of the towns Grandmothers in a effort to get their grandsons married off.
The book includes lots of fun charact...more

This review was posted at Tsuki’s Book Blog on Monday May 27, 2013.

I've heard some incredibly diverse reviews for this series. Some people claim the heroine is too perfect. Some claim the book is about 150 pages too long. Some just love it. I love it when a book has polarized responses because then I read it, wondering which side of the fence I'll be on.

Sloan McKinley is having a tough time as her mother constantly tries to fix her up with every guy with a pulse. Sloan isn't happy about it but h...more

This is a well written start to the Alaskan trilogy, albeit a trite and somewhat over written/done idea. Unfortunately there is so much going on and with so many couples that the author at times, shortchanges Sloan and Walker. Their story took short shrift and I found that to be annoying as well as distracting from what a trilogy could have been.

I read a lot about Alaska and was thrilled to see a romance centered there, yet the nature of the area barely played into the story.

LOVED this book! Instead of just focusing in the romantic trials and tribulations of the main protagonists, there are also all these little side stories going on. The characters were fun and lively and even some of the minor side romance characters had complete personalities and back stories. Immediately when I finished this I went prowling for the next book (about one of said side-characters, bringing her romantic escapades tot he forefront).

I LOVE the setting, and this made me want to read mo...more

Here's a new author-to-me and I was impressed. I saw a review on this, it grabbed my attention, and with one-click, it was mine! Another series set in a small town but a little different because of the Alaskan setting. The characters are what made this one a hit with me. If you're looking for something fun, light and romantic, I recommend it. I particularly enjoyed the big splash of sizzling heat -- maybe it has something to do with the change in the weather, or maybe something else entirely!! A...more

Way to go, Addison Fox! This debut of the Indigo, Alaska series is a refreshing, fun, youthful read that will appeal to the Nora Roberts fans out there. The characters are all likable and their continuing stories will be welcomed as the series moves forward. On a cross country plane ride, I finished the book in one sitting and wish the next one was available for the trip home. I've already given this book to 3 friends and the reviews were equally as glowing. With this new series and the Warrior...more

Baby Its Cold Outside by Addison Fox is the first book in her Alaskan Nights contemporary romance series.

Freelance writer Sloan McKinley journeys to Indigo, Alaska, to help her friend Grier Thompson, who is embroiled in a dispute over an inheritance with a half-sister that Grier never knew she had. But Sloan is determined to use her New York charm to get the townspeople on Grier's side. I was sorely disappointed with the way the book turned out. especially after I had to track it down to the ends of the earth ( Drama is required). The bachelor auction promised in the jacket managed to crop up only in the last few pages and was lacking in excitement and build up. Moreoever, there were way too many couples tryibng to get it on without any real focus on any. The sex was uninspired and just drab. Although, the conference room scene in the beginning promised better possibilities. Fe...more

Oh my gosh! I grabbed this book a few months ago (shortly before Christmas), and put it in my "to be read" pile. I'm so glad I picked it up!

Sloan McKinley is an ugly-duckling turned swan, and still single, much to her mothers shame. After yet another bad date Sloan flies from Manhattan to Alaska after a phone call from her best friend Grier. Grier is shunned by all the residents in the small town after she flies in to claim the house her father left to her in his will. Sloan arrives in town and...more

I am sad to say that this was my first book by Addison Fox and I know it won't be my last!

This was the first romance that I have read that takes place in Alaska. I think that was what first intrigued me about this book. All that cold weather and body heat to warm each other up, yep....had to be romantic and steamy...and Ms. Fox does not disappoint.

Never married, 33 year old, Sloan McKinley is having mother issues (her's is nagging her to get married and setting her up on horrible dates with eligible, rich, dirtbags). So when best friend Grier Thompson calls her from Alaska and begs for help with an inheritance problem, Sloan drops everything and books a flight to middle of nowhere Alaska. (Oh how I envy her. It's always been my dream to live in Alaska.) Unluckily for her, she lands right in the middle of a bachlorette shindig. The towns r...more

When an inheritance mess leaves her best friend, Grier, stressed out and frantic, Sloan McKinley does what any best friend would do; she hops on a plane to Alaska to help Grier out. As soon as she arrives, Sloan can see that Grier needs all the help she can get to win the townspeople of Indigo over. Luckily for Grier, Sloan knows how to turn on the charm.

But it’s Sloan herself who finds herself enchanted, with the people of Indigo…and sexy lawy...more

I really enjoyed this story - I just wish that it would have followed up with each of the three couples and not make us wait for the next book to finish telling their stories. I'm guessing that the author's intent is to spin off a new book for each of the couples - but I enjoyed the story so much, I didn't want to wait to read about the conclusions of the other couples. I felt as if I were kept hanging. I would still recommend it, though.

Addison Fox can’t remember a time when words weren’t a part of her life. An avid reader, her love of the written word started at the tender age of 1 with The Owl and the Pussycat by Edward Lear (a poem she could recite by heart to any family member who would listen). Dr. Seuss, C.S. Lewis, Judy Blume and a host of others quickly followed until she discovered THE CLAN OF THE CAVE BEAR by Jean M. Au...more
