Marc Sedaka stood by while he and his wife endured endless rounds of drug therapies, sixteen artificial inseminations, ten in-vitro fertilizations, three miscarriages, and, finally, a gestational surrogate (“womb for rent”) who carried their twin girls to term. He was as supportive and loving as he could be, but he really wished he’d had a book like What He Can Expect When ...more

This book was so freakin' sexist. That was clear early on when he stated that men wanted children, women NEEDED them. Excuse me? There are plenty of women out there that never want children. There are plenty of men out there who NEED them (oh, for example, the centuries of women who were shunned or, worse, killed because they couldn't produce a male heir). Our infertility has been a disappointing and emotional ride, but my husband and I both want children. We will survive if we can't have them. ...more

Eh ok. Some good info, but lots I already know because of our docs, but not a bad starter book. There are some good tips for men and how they can help.

Every couple who are experiencing fertility struggles and treatment should read this book for a clearer understanding on both sides. Marc honestly explains things to men from a man's point of view.

Fun, light book with great information about infertility treatment.

I am a female undergoing infertility treatment. I found this book fun, interesting, and not boring at all. Of course, I've already known many things in the book, but it's still nice to go through the summary every once in a while.

The book covers all things about infertility treatment including emotional aspects, preparation, budget, and all the process involved. It can help you prepare and make decisions.

This is a great book. It really explains the infertility testing process and IVF in laymans terms and with humor. It lets men know what they are in for without having to ask the doctor or feeling like they are the only ones experiencing these hormonal ups and downs. One of the best sentences is when he explains how guys may want kids, but women need kids, and while this may not be true for all men and women, those going through the rigorous process of infertility are certain to have this ring tr ...more

I really enjoyed this book written from a husband's perspective as he and his wife endure a ridiculous number of infertility treatments (16 artificial inseminations and 10 IVFs) to have their first child. The author is both honest and sensitive as he supports his wife throughout their 6-year-long, miserable process. I love the ending of the book, when the author and his wife successfully have twin girls through the use of a gestational surrogate and subsequently, go on to have a naturally-concei ...more

It’s a good read if you’re looking to prepare for pregnancy far in advance- not necessarily if you already have a diagnosis and are looking to further educate yourself. It’s pretty basic and surface level. A great read for those looking to understand from the outside.

This book is definitely written by men for men, including sports references, however I also found it insightful, and would not hesitate to recommend this book to any couple dealing with infertility. See the rest of my review on September 18 at www.vivacioushobo.com

Loved this book, can't wait for my husband to read it, although he could write a book of his own. So nice to hear the husband's point of view.
