Fans of truly romantic, sweet and sexy stories.
There is a lineage of blood that ties mother to child, a lineage that can never be broken. And it is this lineage the queen used to cast her children away from Elden, to safety, so they could one day return and reclaim their stolen birthright....more
It was a mother’s last loving gift, yet the Blood Sorcerer boasts even now that Queen Alvina failed, that he twisted her magic at the end so that instead of finding safe harbor, the heirs of Elden fell into death. There is no one left alive to contradict h

Micah is the youngest of the four children of King Aelfric and Queen Alvina of Elden. When Micah was only five the evil Blood Sorcerer cast a spell on the children and Micah was torn from his parents and home. With no memories of his past, he awakens in the Black Castle to become the Lord of the Abyss. Within the castle is the gateway to the Abyss, where all evil-doers are banished for eternity.

Truthfully, I bought this novel because it had Nalini Singh's name on it. I had no preconceived notion of what the series was about. I was surprised to find this story was a cross between a magical fantasy and a fairy tale (or maybe one of the fables at the beginning of each chapter of an Elizabeth Hoyt historical). That's not to say I didn't enjoy it; I did, very much so. It just wasn't quite what I was expecting when I began reading.

You know what, I figured out recently that I label a lot of really good books 4.5 stars, meaning it was great, but I have some issues with them. Sorry, irrelevant here, moving on.
Before starting, I should mention that I have read only the first book in the series, the one written by Gena Showalter and found it to be just ok, but this one was...incredible. It was sweet and in many ways light, and I really loved the characters.

This book was wonderful. Why did I wait so long to read this book? Lord of Abyss is the fourth book in this series with Ms. Singh as the final writer. Even though it was the last one and I know the ending, I'm so enthralled I'm going to have to read the first three in this series. In this one, Micah is the youngest child of a beloved King and Queen who have been slaughtered by an evil sorcerer. He has no memory of his past. All he knows is his job as the Lord of the Abyss.

I have always enjoyed Nalini Singh's books. (Especially her Psy-Changeling series.) So I was very excited and pleased to hear that she was going to be writing a book for this series. And let's just say overall with the book, that I was not disappointed with it.
I just absolutely adore Micah, he's most definitely my favorite character out of all of them in this series. I think it's the whole "I'm Lord of the Black Castle and I'll do and say whatever I want" attitude he had going on that gets me...more

4,5 stars!
The final book of Royal House of Shadow series, and the best book of this series, from story, plot and characterization.
I have major nosebleed when read this and definitely need a big box of tissues! Again Ms. Nalini never disappoint! A fact she again make a swoon worthy hero that is Micah. Are you sure, you're a virgin, Micah? For a virgin hero, you're so talented..and such a wicked, wicked beast! =)).

Standing alone, I give this book high marks. It's a unique, highly sensual tale. Nalini Singh is an author who always delivers something special.
But when considering as part of the 4-book series, and the series finale', and discussing the conclusion of the series as a whole, it comes as a disappointment because we get no sense of WHY all of the siblings had to be present at the end. We see only Micah and Lily's scene, battling the Blood Sorcerer. We don't see the other siblings as a part of wha...more

This was an amazing story, reminded me in some ways of Beauty and the Beast, but with Nalini's own spin on the tale. Micah is a long lost Prince of a kingdom that has been stolen and nearly destroyed by the evil Blood Sorcerer. The Sorcerer's daughter (whose name I can't remember right now) finds Micah at the Black Castle, where he reigns as the Lord of the Abyss. She is intent on helping Micah regain his kingdom and bring peace to the land once again. (Sigh) It's a lovely fairy tale made specia...more

I just want to turn off my phone, light some candles, and cuddle with this book for a while. A long while.
I love you, Nalini Singh. Other people might profess the same thing, but right at this moment, I love you more than all of those other people combined. All because you gave me Liliana and Micah. There are no faults to this book. Sure, some time in the future I might see some things that could have been better or I'd adore the heroine or the hero less, but I don't...more

Lord of the Abyss is Nalini Singh’s contribution to the Royal House of Shadows series. This fourth and final book focuses on Micah, the youngest child of King Alfric and Queen Olivina.
I did not read the first three books in the series, but I did not feel as if I had missed anything. The background of the series is recapped well.
Micah was taken from his family at a young age and was ensorcelled by the blood sorcerer. Micah is now an imposing figure: He is the Lord of the Abyss. He is a large man,...more

I think that this was my favourite in the series. Nalini's writing style is just my cup of tea :) The kinks were ironed out, the seams mended, and one heck of a romance unfolded between the lost prince and the ugly blood sorcerer's daughter.
I liked the setting change in Lord of the Abyss. The Black Castle was mysterious and full of danger. But having Lily choose to be there gave the story a whole new depth. Which brings me to the other thing I liked, the difference in Micah in comparison to his...more

Listen up all my readers, and listen well, for I have got at tale to tell.
Once upon a time, long, long ago
There was a King and Queen with four happy children
But one day when the youngest was not but five, evil stalked and claimed
He killed and destroyed, butchered and maimed
Sent as far apart as their mother could reach, each man{ok and woman}-child awoke from a dreamless sleep. {OK, well Micah did lol}
The tale I tell is of Lord Abyss,
youngest prince of Elden.

I was not familiarized with this series. In fact the only reason i bought this book was because of the author. Nalini Singh is one of my favorite writers and most of her characters are amongst my favorites.
Regarding this story and this book, it was a nice pleasant read. The story is interesting, and the characters had great chemistry _ of course they do! This is a Nalini Singh book! :D

This book is by far the strongest of the series. The fairy tale featured here is Beauty and the Beast, with the roles reversed. Micah is the youngest of the royal children scattered to the ends of the kingdom to be spared from the Blood Sorcerer who conquered Elden. Normally I give novellas and short stories a wide berth -- even the good ones are often a bit of a let-down. But everything Nalini Singh writes seems to be gold, and this book was no exception.

Actually this is the final installment of Royal House of Shadow. The first 3 books are written by different authors : Gena Showalter, Jill Monroe, and Jessica Andersen. Unfortunatley, I still cant get my hand on those books :(

The Lord of the Abyss and the ruler of the Dark Castle has no memory before taking on that mantle. Twenty years ago he was Prince Micah, the youngest child of the King and Queen of Elden. One night the Blood Sorcerer took over the castle and murdered his parents. Their final act was to send their daughter and three sons to safety. Micah landed in the Dark Castle where, when he was old enough, he became Guardian of the Abyss: the realm where the wicked go after death.

3.75 stars. Fourth and final book in a paranormal series that has a strong fairy-tale element. Each book was written by a different well-known author. The series follows the heirs of the kingdom of Elden which was conquered by an evil blood sorcerer. The four children were cursed and scattered and each book follows one of the heirs on their journey to find love and regain the kingdom. At the end of this book they all come together in the final showdown.

Some might say that I'm doing things a bit backward since this is my first book in the series and it is the last in the series order. And yes, they'd be right, but this was the only one of the series that I have and I was very eager to read it. Lord of the Abyss by Nalini Singh is the much-anticipated conclusion to the Royal House of Shadows series. While I was glad to see the House of Elden restored, it seemed like the final battle was almost anti-climactic. On the other hand, the reverse "Beauty and the Beast" love story of Micah and Liliana was very well done.

This was really a great, satisfying read for a Harlequin. Both the main characters were interesting and there was a lot of sexual tension that played out well within the plot. The final battle was pretty weak, even when not taking into account the prior books in the series, but I don't read romance for the great battle scenes, and the flaws weren't central to the main story between Liliana and Micah.
