Malcolm feels like a failure after the loss of his wife and his inability to control the current strife in his family. With the passing of his father, he is now at odds with his hateful, demanding elder half brother, Torquil. Torquil wants Malcolm's money from his inheritance and possession of Malcolm's sister for political gain. To add to Malcolm’s troubles, his mother in law, Elesyria has suddenly decided to visit and claims to be a magical Faerie! Things only become more complicated when Malcolm stumbles on a fairy ring where he finds a strange and beautiful woman and feels an odd connection to her. But he doesn't know if he can believe her when she claims to be from the future.

Soon Dani and Malcolm find themselves traveling together pretending to be betrothed to protect and deceive his brother. But what happens when pretending only seems too real?

This is a light-hearted romp that readers who enjoy fun time travel romances and engaging characters will definitely relish. Dani is a plucky heroine, and it is fun to read how she adapts to historical Scotland. Malcolm has genuine emotion and warmth unlike many of the one dimensional male heroes. I really enjoyed reading both of them getting to know each other. Malcolm is a particularly likeable and a worthy hero. When Malcolm surrenders himself instead of paying the money his brother unfairly demands, I was torn by his suffering. I also found Dani to be a brave and compassionate heroine, and I loved that she tried to save Malcolm. Both were admirable and deserving main characters. Malcolm’s mother-in-law, Elesyria is a particularly charming character as she brings some mischief into the story. Some sections of the story were a little improbable but the author makes you want to believe it and delight in it! I also liked how the romance was built slowly, and I could feel how they really came to love each other.

Those who believe in fate and love fairy tale like romances will be delighted by this big-hearted and charming romance filled with danger and excitement.

Oh the joy and diversion of an entertaining time travel/romance novel. I just love to dive into a book where you have to suspend any semblance of reality and just go with the fun. This is, I think, the third book by Ms. Mayhue that I have read and I was not disappointed. Her books are tales of the Faery and mortal world all mixed up with folk finding their SoulMate; the person that completes you. Sometimes the two happen to live centuries apart but that doesn't stop love.

This is a spin off series from Melissa Mayhue's Daughters of the Glen series. For new readers it may be confusing as several events in previous books are relied on to set the stage and could be confusing.

I liked the move away from the Fae-descended heroes and heroines. This was still full of all the tension and twists that are Mayhue's traditional forte. I felt like the whole Northman/Odin thing was interesting and I was disappointed that it wasn't really developed.

I enjoy a great Highlander story and the premise for Warrior's Redemption was just awesome. A little bit of magic, a little bit of Faerie, a little bit of time travel and a whole lot of Highland Warrior made for a wonderful romance story.

I briefly met the author Melissa Mayhue in June 2012 at a Readers & Writers Convention. I attended one of the workshops she helped facilitate. Melissa Mayhue talked about the research that authors investigate for a historical romances. I've always had respect for the amount of research that is put into a historical romance novel and this time period of 1294, I admit to not having any knowledge of this era. I kept her presentation in my mind a lot. I won this book, Warrior's Redemption during that presentation so it was a freebie for me. I loved the book so I am really happy I won it.

I'm fairly new to a time travel book genre. The only other time travel stories I can recall reading was the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon (my all time favourite) and the Highlander series by Karen Marie Moning (which I didn't care for). So I was going into the Warrior's Redemption with a completely open mind not really knowing anything about it. I liked it a lot. I will get the next book in the series.

One of the things that I like about Melissa Mayhue's writing is that she answered questions that a reader would have regarding the story through the book characters. For instance, I was puzzled about how all these Scots could easily welcome this blonde attractive newcomer with perfect teeth to their land and then not notice any difference in the way she spoke. I mean really, if they were speaking English at all, would they not notice how an American girl from Wyoming would speak compare to the clan? That question gets answered and other questions that I had that were similar. I love when the author explains and doesn't just hope the readers won't notice.

The attraction between Malcolm and Dani was believable. I also loved that they didn't sleep together the first night they were together. It was perfect. In fact, I was laughing when Dani made her way to his chamber by her determination to find out about her surroundings and he sends her away.

The MacDowlyt's siblings consist of an evil magical older brother, who is the villain we love to hate, Torquil then Malcolm (who is the main protagonist in Warrior's Redemption), Patrick, Dermid and a younger sister, Christina. Each of the siblings have a magical ability or a gift from the Gods. With the exception of Dermid. I found that odd and wondered if there was more to the story there. I liked the various different abilities. Each had their own usefulness.

Danielle was easy to like. She seemed to adapt to the time change really well. It would have freaked me out more than it did her. I really think she did find her soulmate with Malcolm.

However as great as Malcolm and Dani were, I think my favourite character was the Faerie, Elesyria. I truly have no idea how to pronounce her name but I loved all the extra she brought to the story.

Tonquil, Malcolm’s oldest brother lusts for power.. really only having two goals in life, to rule the world *sigh* another evil I wanna rule the world despot.. although he does want to return it to the old gods.. and his second desire is to destroy Malcolm in any way possible.

Ms Mayhue has stated that this was the start of a spin of series called The Warriors and she introduces is to many fascinating new characters and an entire new pantheon to deal with. *grins* she makes me smile every time Malcolm’s brother and second in command Patrick calls Elesyria an elf.. She walks a fine line between telling a story about characters we have come to love and introducing the new series and she does a fine job. I am intrigued to see what is going to happen.. the sparks fly between Elesyria and Patrick will something come of that? We are promised a fine story between Christiana MacDowlyt and Chase Noble in a future book and of course the very vile Tonquil still lives.

I found it interesting I was never quite sure who was good and who was bad throughout the story. When family is involved there are always sure to be split loyalties..

Ms Mayhue has brought us another terrific storry and I strongly suggest you read this book.(less)

Melissa Mayhue starts a new series, The Warrior, which is a spin off from her Daughters of the Glenn Series. Her first novel in this series is Warrior’s Redemption. The hero is Malcom MacDowylt, laird of Clan MacGahan. He holds himself responsible for his first wife’s death, Isabella MacGahan. In A Highlander’s Homecoming, Isabella time travels into the future and lives with her husband, Robert MacQuarrie, living in present time, but Malcom believes she is dead and suffers with guilt. Mayhue ties these two books together nicely, but if you did not read A Highlander’s Homecoming, the Warrior’s Redemption will stand alone. The heroine in a Warrior’s Redemption is Danielle Dearmon, who learns be careful what you wish for, you might just get it. She honors the Fairies and in hopes they will show her the life she is supposed to live. They do. Danielle or Dani is flung back to the year 1294 in Scotland.
Isabella’s mother, Elesyria, a Fairie, plays havoc with both Malcom and Dani’s lives. After Elesyria learns Malcom played a part in keeping her daughter safe, she decides he needs to be rewarded with his lifemate, who happens to be Danielle. On top of an interfering Fairie, Malcom and Danielle must battle his evil older brother, Torquil, who possesses the black Magick powers of Alfodr and has the ability to change form. He desires to kill Malcom, who resents since he is protected by Odin and wears Odin’s Mark of Protection on his breast. He lures Malcom to his castle by refusing to let their sister, Christina, leave. Christina has the gift of Sight and can’t lie about her predictions so Torquil keeps her his prisoner.
As you can see, Mayhue introduces new characters into this book – Norse Gods, both good and evil. The Norse Gods are powerful, even more so, than the Fairie Elesyria, which adds an interesting conflict. At the end of this book, Mayhue foreshadows the continue conflicts between the Norse Gods in her next book, Warrior’s Rebirth.
Throughout her chapters, she ends each one with a hook which propels you into wanting to continue. In this Warrior series, her love scenes are spicier than the ones in A Daughter’s Glenn, but still sweet. Mayhue’s ability to show sexual tension makes the scenes more sensual.
She is able to develop rich characters and you find yourself rooting not only for Malcom and Danielle, but for Elyseria, Patrick (Malcom’s brother) and Christina. Her villain, Torquil, is well-rounded and not just a flat character. His powers are unique and have to admit, I’m glad he’ll be around for the sequel. Without a villain, there can’t be hero.
Melissa Mayhue succeeds in creating another fast pace series, and you’ll enjoy Warrior’s Redemption.

Over the past couple of years I have enjoyed reading from this author, my local library has only a few of her books, so I haven't read much of her. But when I was browsing the shelves this past week, I saw that they had both of her newest books, and I just had to snatch them up. Melissa Mayhue has such a talent to bring out such beautifully written stories where the reader can't help but be swept away in the magical tales she writes. I fell in love with this from the beginning and it didn't take me very long to read it, and when that happens, you know its amazing!! Definitely easy to get into, and a quick read that is a bunch of fun and adventure.

Warrior's Redemption starts out with this reader seeing both worlds of Malcolm and Dani. We see Malcolm trying his best to protect those he is over as best he can. But with the death of his wife, he blames himself and bears a whole world of weight of guilt on his shoulders. With worrying over his sister's welfare, and knowing he will have to marry a woman he doesn't know for a alliance that will bring justice for his older brother's wrong doings, he feels like his hands are tied. Then we go to Dani's side of things, who has been faithful in her devotion to the fairies no matter how many people ridicule or criticize her. She is a cook and works long hours that puts a roof over her head, but she wants more for her life. What she doesn't expect is to be brought in the past 700 years and to a medieval dominant man who makes her blood stir with passion. I enjoyed seeing these two develop into a relationship. I have always adored time travel romances, and this one is by far one of my favorites. I loved seeing the conflicts and how true love does conquer all. In this story, this couple are known as soul mates, which is the strongest union, and I also enjoyed the sense of magic that was played out in the story. It wasn't overly strong where it was the focus of the story, it was more like cream on top of a dessert, only added more flavor and deliciousness.

Now lets talk about my favorite aspect of the story....the characters. Now I just adored all the characters in this story, there was so much depth to them (even the evil ones). Malcolm, is very alpha type but not too overly much either. He is from the late 1200's, so very medieval, but the honorable type. Pure yumminess, I just wanted to gobble him up. Where can I find my own fairy right? There was so much that I liked about him.A Warrior, has a tattoo( and a beautiful one at that), but has a few weaknesses that made him so real to me. I just wanted to kiss away all the sadness from him. Dani, hasn't exactly had the best luck in her life. Her aunt was her mother and raised her, but when she grows up she still believes in magic and fairies, and I found Dani to be a bit predictable at times, but I loved how she would fight for Malcolm. She doesn't ever back down from a fight, and risks her own life for him. I really admired her tenacity and devotion. She was a very likable character.

Overall I found the story to be heart wrenching, and yet a beautiful tale of true love that bring two people that can't be more opposite and from two entirely different worlds. A riveting story from beginning to end, that made it a MUST NOT PUT DOWN read. Mixed with great humor, adventure, magic, and endearing characters that were deeply moving to the point that you can't help but fall in love all over again. A captivating love story that will take you on a adventure of a lifetime. A Magnificent start to the most recent series from this stellar author. A WINNER!!(less)

I was totally surprised that this book was not a continuation of the Daughters of the Glen series, as the hero in this book, was from an earlier book in that series (A Highlanders Homecoming). But Mayhue wins you over very quickly. Pretty much everything in this new storyline is similar, with a wonderful Highlander hero; his soulmate from the future, and the story taking place in old time Scotland.

“Warriors Redemption” is about Malcolm MacDowylt, the Scottish laird and Danielle (Dani) Dearmon, a girl in present day, who believes in faeries. Dani Dearmon, a spunky and vivacious young girl, who spent 15 years waiting for the faeries to claim her for her destiny. On Halloween night, she creates a circle in her living room, and when she wakes up, she is in 1294 Scotland.

Malcolm is having his issues, and it seems to be getting worse by the day. His sister and youngest brother are held captive by his half brother Torquil, who wants everything that Malcolm owns in exchange for their freedom. Then Elesyria, a faerie, who is Isabella’s mother comes to visit Malcom. Yes the same Isabella, who escaped from MacDowylt , only to go back to the future with her soulmate Robbie and her ward Jaime. Though Malcolm blames himself for Isabella’s ‘death’, Elesyria knows she is alive in another time. With that, she offers to give Malcolm a gift, something that would make him happy. His soulmate…..,who happens to appear out of nowhere…from the future. enter Dani………..

It is Elesyria who convinces Malcolm to find and save the young girl who was destined for him. When he finds her, she awakens and smacks him with a fearsome punch to his jaw, he then brings Dani back to his laird, with the help of his good brother, Patrick. It is there that they find his younger brother Dermid waiting for them. Dani, who catches on quickly, about Malcolm’s problems, suggests that she be introduced as his betrothed, so no one would suspect anything.

Dermid has come to collect Torquil’s request for the freedom of his sister. Malcolm knows how evil and powerful Torquil is, and he refuses to allow Dermid to go with them, when they will travel to rescue Christiana, their sister. Christiana plays a major role in helping Malcolm and Dani, as she is also powerful in her own right, as she has the gift of vision.

Dani and Malcolm made a nice couple, though I thought it was pretty quick that they ended up having sex. But I really liked them together, and it wasn’t much longer that you could see them falling in love, and discovering the true meaning of being soul mates. But throughout the story, and the forthcoming battle to rescue Christiana, you are aware that Malcolm does not have enough manpower to fight Torquil. To stand up against him, he would have to make an alliance with another clan, which would force him to marry into that clan.

The story gets very exciting, when Malcolm is captured and tortured by Torquil. It is Dani and Elesyria, who try to rescue him, with Christiana’s help. As the battle between the powerful brothers comes to a climax, a few twists nearer to the end keeps this story open ended. However, just when Dani is willingly ready to return to future to save Malcolm, you get your happy ending. Mayhue does a wonderful job writing this story. It is light reading, fun, action filled and danger. You end up liking most of the characters, from Dani, Malcolm, Elesyria, Patrick, and Christiana. But as much as I enjoyed Malcolm, I loved Dani. She turns out to be a wonderful female character, and Mayhue does have a few good ones. Since this story ended with a lot more to come, I suspect Christiana will be in the next book.
That being said, I worry that Mayhue, who is continuing this “Warrior” series, will let go of Daughters of the Glen. I hope not…..I loved that series…loved the feeling of family, friendship between the two time zones (future and past). I want to know more about Dallyn, Pol, Wynn, Dair, Sim, Rosie, as well as hear more about the friends we have come to love. Please Melissa, do not abandon them.

Dani never once believed that the fairy Goddess would send her to the past. She’s not quite sure she even believed the fairies were listening. Now she is stuck in historical Scotland with no way home. In order to throw off Malcolm’s evil half brother, she agrees to pretend they are betrothed to hopefully throw him off his game to take over Malcolms territory. The problem with pretending is that, at some point, it becomes real.

I’m not sure where to start this review. I really enjoyed the book but I can’t seem to get into words why exactly. You may just have to take my word on it. :) To start with I’m not quite sure what to label this book. It’s a mix of historical, contemporary and paranormal romance all rolled into one and usually that would annoy me. Melissa Mayhue makes it work and work well and so I ended up really liking the characters and their interactions.

Dani is our heroine. She is spunky and true to herself and her belief in fairies. Regardless of what others may think of her, she holds fast to her beliefs. On Halloween night she makes a plea to the fairy goddess to finally be rid of her boring life. To be taken to where she is needed, where her destiny is. She is beyond shocked when to fill her destiny she gets sent back to 700 years in the past. I loved watching how she adjusted to historical Scotland. How she reacted to Scottish Laird, Malcolm upon waking in his arms the first time. The girl has a mean punch! For a girl that should be rightfully confused with her surroundings, she is extremely brave and doesn’t hesitate when the people she is coming to care for are in danger. Included in those is Malcolm. Pretending to be engaged is one thing, but actually starting to feel like it is another.

Having already lost one wife, Malcolm doesn’t believe he can take care of anyone, let alone this woman claiming to be from the future. He bears the weight of a ton of pressure. With a war approaching, with his own brother, he spends a lot of time stressed out. His half brother leads a rival clan and Torquil isn’t known for his patience. He also has Malcolm’s sister, who he holds in high regard because of her visions. Malcolm knows he must get her back safely and soon before Torquil exploits her abilities for his own gain any further. Further complicating his life is his ex mother in law, Elesyria, who, along with the goddess, is the reason Dani has shown up in the first place. His reasoning tells him fairies aren’t real but the fact are screaming that they are. I liked his willingness to see outside the box and go with his gut. He isn’t fully healed from losing his wife and here comes Dani with her sassy mouth and directness that, as a laird, he isn’t used to people expressing.

I found Malcolm to be a highly engaging character. First off I have a thing for accents and Scottish, even in my head, sounds HOT. Secondly he stood up for what he believed in and when given the opportunity to buy his way out of a sticky situation, he instead surrendered myself. That’s just not something you see (or read) a lot of. I found the vulnerability endearing. On the flip side, upon hearing about his capture, Dani goes into warrior mode and become the heroic hero. The flip of roles was just flat out good reading.

Readers that enjoy a bit of a mix to their romance heavy on the time travel should really enjoy this one. It’s light-hearted and easy to read and I didn’t once find myself cursing the number of pages between the covers. There is very little sex and what there is feels more like a “fade to black” type of scene. I would say if anything I wanted more emotion. There are times that I didn’t feel the connection that was growing between Malcolm and Dani. I read the words but that spark was lost to me several times.

I give Warrior’s Redemption by Melissa Mayhue 4 stars! (less)

I love Highlanders. Whether they're in their own time or ours. I love time travel romances. The rush of the past colliding with the present makes for a laugh out loud read. Hellooo! Communicating and using modern phrases that confuses the other person gets giggles out of me.

I could almost stop right there, but absolutely can not. I can tell the worth of a book by the amount of time it takes me to devour it. The jewel of Paranormal Romance took me 3 hours. Melissa has created a wonderful spin-off series from her Daughters of the Glen series, but Warrior's Redemption can stand quite alone on it's own two feet.

Good solid story. I liked it. Of course anything that can keep me immersed in the story right now is excellent. Missed seeing some of the old cast of characters; didn't realize this was a new series (not Daughter's of the Glen) until I'd finish. Nice light story perfect for warming up a cold winter night.

It took me a couple of chapters to get into this book, but once I did, OH BOY! I couldn't put it down. There was romance and history and intrigue and a little mystery as well. It was well written and Ms. Mayhue seems to write in a lilted voice that almost sings out. I am currently reading the second in the series and am thrilled with the fact that my next 18 books are pretty much picked out for me.

Finally read Warrior's Redemption, now it's time to move onto the next one. Melissa Mayhue has taken a slight turn from her Daughter's of the Glen series and is moving a little darker with her Warrior's series. Melissa has kept some of her characters and her world building from her previous series, butin this series Norse magic combines with Faery magic, and of course a time travel romance. Great read!

A spin-off from the Daughter's of the Glen series, but still ties in loosely with the characters. A light and easy read, funny, and enjoyable. Strong women characters and strong men, without going overboard into irritating. Looks to be another interesting series by the author!

A preview of the next book does the sister's story, with one of the characters from the Daughter's series. Can't wait!

I was extremely happy when I saw that Melissa had given Malcolm his own book. First introduced in A Highlander's Homecoming, I really thought there was so much more to the guy and WOW did she give it!

I loved the introduction of all the new characters and the venture into the Viking heritage. All the different twist and turns I swear I hated one person only to like him in the end and hate the other. AWESOME!
