This is not really a book, but rather as an edited volume of Gandhi's writings. If you want to find out what Gandhi thinks about caste, this is the edited volume to read. A lot of the content is repetitive, because apparently people struggled to grok some important fundamental points, but that's actually somewhat useful, since those are the same traps that the reader is likely to fall into and the same misgivings the reader might go away with.

Though the ideas and principles presented in the book clearly show how great Mahatma was. But these idealistic propositions hardly work in the reality. He has been repeatedly defending the Varna System on the ground it being merely a division of labour, but as Dr. Ambedkar has argued it has the inherent tendency to degenerate into the caste system based on inequality. After reading Dr. Ambedkar's "Annihilation of Caste", one would hardly agree with these idealistic and utopian principles ...more
