C.C. Hunter wrote an amazing sequel to Born at Midnight. Everything I loved about Born at Midnight was present in Awake at Dawn. Awake at Dawn is absolutely unputdownable. I read this book in record time. I got up an hour early in the morning to read, I read on the bus on my way to class, I even ignored my friends at break time in order to immerse myself in Kylie's story.

Awake at dawn is a delightful read with a plot full of twists and turns, genuine emotions that reach your heart and make you...more

See more of my reviews sooner on The YA Kitten!

Upon starting Awake at Dawn, I begged it to not to be as bad as Born at Midnight was. My feelings about Born at Midnight can hardly be spoken of. Because I am being punished, it ended up being just as bad as the first book. The few improvements made are not enough to make it any less offensive. I apologize for the long review ahead of time, but there was a lot of stuff I needed to discuss.

In some ways, Awake at Dawn was an improvement on its disastr...more

Born at Midnight was a great start to this series. I liked the writing, and even though Kylie was boring sometimes, it was still enjoyable. I didn't like certain things about it, like the shallow romance, and the mistery about what Kylie was.
I hoped that, in Awake at Dawn, those things would develop, and we'd get to know a lot more about Shadow Falls. I can say, for sure, that this didn't happen.
Well, to start with, Kylie doesn't know what she is. She spends the first half of the book searchin...more

This is a nice sequel. Though I still prefer the first book.

It's still funny and adventurous and full of teen dramas.... which gets a bit annoying at times.

Kylie is still trying to discover what she is. Is she a vampire? werewolf? shapeshifter? fairy? She's still confused with her feelings for Derek and Lucas but decided to give Derek a chance. And I must agree with Lucas, Derek is an idiot. Derek is patient and understanding guy BUT what the hell was he thinking?!? As for Lucas I'm getting fon...more

'Awake at Dawn' is the second in the Shadow Falls series, chronicling Kylie Galen's coming of age (and supernatural-icity!) with her new found friends, life, and love-interests. This book really helped cement my connection to all of the main characters established in Born at Midnight (Shadow Falls #1). I think Kylie is a likeable protagonist, dealing with real-life issues that make you genuinely feel for the predicaments she finds herself in throughout the novel. I LOVE her two best friends at S...more

OH my goodness I LOVE this cover<333 I can't wait for this book! Come quickly!!! <3

______________

Fantastic sequel! I loved every part it. I loved discovering what Kylie was discovering, feeling what Kylie felt, and watching her grow. I have to admit, boy wise, I was Team Lucas after Born At Midnight. But, now, after Awake At Dawn, I am kind of split. Derek is just the all around great guy, with sexy green eyes and then there's also Lucas who you can't help but loving. ARRRGGG I'm not sure...more

This book tragically suffers from the fabled second book slump that so many have fallen prey to before. Wherein the book is entire too long, tries to both add onto the previous book and set up the next disasterously, rushes at times, drags at others, and ultimately falls short.

I was really pleasantly surprised by how much I liked the fist book. The second is a different story. The first book had this odd charm to it that really endeared itself to me with. I liked the coming of age story, and the...more

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales.

Quick & Dirty: This was a really good sequel to Born at Midnight. The story was really interesting and filled with great action, good humor, and an interesting love triangle.

Opening Sentence: “You have to stop it, Kylie. You have to. Or this will happen to someone you love.”

The Review:

Kylie has finally accepted that she isn’t normal. She went to Shadow Falls at the beginning of the summer and found out that the supernatural exist and that she is one of th...more

I think I pretty much loved this book over all even though there were some parts in this book that literally made me want to rip my hair out!!!!

1. I LOVE how the titles are creative, go in order and actually have some relevance to the story.

2. I liked this book way better than the first because Kylie FINALLY makes her mind up about which guy she wants and sticks to it for the better part of the book (view spoiler)[(but I have the feeling she only chose Derek during this book because Lucas was c...more

So... second in the series and once again teenage drama abounds. It's not quite as over the top as more of Kylie's powers come to light. There's still an awful lot of mystery around things and her parents are still not a postive part of her life. Some of the changes are quite amusing (e.g. the overnight 'growth spurt') and others are just confusing for everyone. It's still not certain what Kylie is (but it sure as anything is interesting... I just wish she wouldn't be so obsessive about it. Then...more

I find it ironic how the first book slut shames the hell out of many girls but in this book, Kylie's friend Miranda and herself did some pretty questionable things. Miranda cheated on her boyfriend with his friend JUST because he didn't go far enough with her when they've only been dating for very few days and the author makes it seem like HE is the bad guy when it's obviously Miranda who was at fault. Kylie and her friends say Perry has no balls just because he was shy. And don't even get me st...more

Inhalt:

Loved it!! Its a fun read and very thrilling!! There is love, pain, friendship, action and drama!

Our lovely Kylie the ghost whisperer discovers some new powers. she likes drinking blood.. I know ewww! right! No offence my dear Vampires.. She has a sudden growth sprut, can run like wind, has the power to break down heavy oak doors and concrete walls and most importantly .. she can heal not just injuries but something as huge as cancer! Ya she is turning into my very favorite supernatural!
And one...more

Another great book in the series! Oddly enough it's as good as the first and as a general rule of thumb the second in a series is usually a let down.

When the book starts, it's a few weeks where we left off from the first. Lucas is gone, he is with Fredricka and Kylee is still semi seeing Derek. Kylie is still trying to find out what she is. This book leaves with new powers, and Kylie still being in a tug of war with her emotions over Lucas and Derek.

The best thing about this book, is the charact...more

Awake at Dawn is a brilliant sequel to Born at Midnight. Kylie doesn’t exactly find answers about who she is, or what Daniel’s biological parents were/are, but she definitely learns a LOT more about herself. Kylie starts to demonstrate some wild and whacky gifts, and some side-effects too, some nice (like bigger boobs), and some not so nice (like mood swings). I felt swept along in her emotions all over again, because she feels so deeply. When she hurts, it kills her and when she loves, she will...more

Deci cartea asta a fost prea faina. Am devorat-o si tot a fost prea scurta.

To be perfectly honest, I probably wouldn’t have found the motivation to keep reading this series if my sister hadn’t given me a copy of the second book. It’s not that the first book was bad by any means, it’s just I’m not big on series, and the first book, while being enjoyable, didn’t really grip me.

But, I don’t know, I kinda got into this second book. I think it’s because Kylie’s finally accepted her supernatural-ness in this one, so she’s not annoyingly walking around going, “I couldn’t pos...more

I finished this book pretty fast.
It's not the best book I've ever read, but it's not the worst.

Kylie Galen attends Shadow Falls, a camp for supernaturals, she has so many powers (which develop through the book) and you really get to see Kylie grow as a person when she pushes through struggles throughout the book.
Kylie's Dad, Daniel, was a supernatural but died. Leaving her half human and half supernatural (she's not sure what she is.)
In this book, you don't find out what Kylie is, and sometimes...more

Do kids really still say, "Will you go out with me?" when they are not referring to a date, but a relationship? It really takes me back.

I was in grade ten (I'm from Canada, so for you US citizens, that means I was a sophomore) when a guy asked me to "go out." We were at a dance, dancing to a slow song that I don't remember when he looked at me with his chocolate brown eyes and said in his Aussie accent, "Wanna go out?" I thought of the guy I really liked (who didn't like me back) smiled and sai...more

I got halfway through. It was too slow and I know it's supposed to be suspenseful "OH WHAT IS SHE OMG" but it's not written where it's suspenseful, it's just annoying. Not to mention she cries about EVERYTHING. And I feel like her accent goes in and out. It's kind of like she doesn't have an accent, and then every 10 chapters she says y'all. For some reason that really annoyed me.

The characters that started out funny are getting OLD. Della is a whiny, "bad-ass" wannabe bitch. She stalks off and...more

Ugh, what a cliffhanger! Hmm, I definitely think that this one was better than the first one!

(view spoiler)[We discover that Kylie has all these other magical powers! It's pretty amazing, and I love all the scenes with Derek and Kylie. Really do hope that there'll be more of them in the future. But wait, there's more. Lucas is back, and Derek broke it off with Kylie. But they were never really going out? It's all weird. Talk about complex relationships. And Kylie has a new ghost. The ghost is te...more

Kylie doesn’t know what she is. Kylie kisses a boy. Kylie has a sudden not-so-climatic event. Kylie still doesn’t what she is. Kylie is at the end of book two.
For me, that was exactly what it was like reading this book. I remember I complained about the fact that Hunter didn’t use first person in the first installment of this series and unfortunately I have to do it again. In my opinion, if you’re going to write in third person, you should write in a way that your characters name isn’t repeated...more

C.C. Hunter grew up in Alabama, where she caught lightning bugs, ran barefoot, and regularly rescued potential princes, in the form of Alabama bullfrogs, from her brothers. Today, she's still fascinated with lightning bugs, mostly wears shoes, but has turned her focus to rescuing mammals. She now lives in Texas with her four rescued cats, one dog, and a prince of a husband, who for the record, is...more
