Julie Garwood tries a new style -- suspense/thriller. I actually found it entertaining, but I still like her historical romances best.
Back cover notes:
Bless me father, for I will sin...
In the still shadows of the confessional, a madman tauntingly reveals his plan for a murder he is going to commit, pulling Father Thomas Madden into a twisted game by disclosing his next intended victim: Tom's sister, Laurant. In a frantic race to protect her, Tom calls upon his best fri...more

A true-blue romantic suspense. Some romantic suspense books are romances with suspenseful storylines, but this is one of those books that is a pure suspense books with a solid romance behind it. And overall it was a pretty good read. I enjoyed it.
Good plot...well planned, enough twists, plenty of suspicion cast about. Good characters...likeable, interesting, fairly well developed. And a decent romance...not great, but substantial enough.

This gets four stars because it's the first romantic suspense novel that works pretty well as a thriller. Not the best I've ever read -- it lacks a sense of urgency because the first two-thirds of the novel mostly involve the characters telling each other to be careful without anything actually happening; also, the red herring is too obvious -- but I didn't figure out the culprit until the same moment our FBI agent protagonist did. Plus the heroine, literally, kicks ass.

This was Julie Garwood’s first romantic suspense (not to mention the first book of her’s I’ve read), and if you ask me, she hit it out of the park. I really liked this. I liked Nick’s blindspots and Laurant’s straight-forwardness and the quirky cast of characters in Holy Oaks. Though I figured out the identity of the Heartbreaker about halfway through the book, I didn’t know where he was hiding until Nick did. Big thumbs up!

In Heartbreaker, Julie Garwood leaves her Highlanders and returns to more modern times. Although the descendents of some of her highlanders have moved to the United States, as well as a descendent of the Claybornes. With a twist and a half, a FBI agent and his best friend must figure out what is going on before a killer can strike. A serial murderer has targeted the sister of a close friend and now must be protected! GREAT STORY!!!!

This is the first contemporary novel that I've read from JG. Her shift from historical to contemporary is a great move since this novel would keep you at the edge of your seat and fall in love at the same time. You won't be able to put this book down until the end...

Julie Garwood did not dissappoint. Heartbreaker was just as enjoyable as Ransom. The romantic tension mingled with an atmosphere of danger and suspense had me reading from cover to cover in one sitting.

I have read and reread this book numerous times -- the first in the Garwood's Buchanan Romantic Suspense series, this book keeps you on your toes in trying to figure out who the guilty party is.

I grabbed this in the airport because I have loved her romance novels. It was so trashy and violent that I didn't even finish it. Yuck.

I am not a fan of Garwood's venture into contemporary suspense romance. I like the quirky historical romances sooo much better.
