It's a classic plot: a marriage of convenience that lays the groundwork for true love.

1119. Journeying from England to Scotland to wed a highlander, Lady Brenna had resigned herself to the arranged match. But when a band of fierce, painted warriors captured her en route, she fearlessly met their demand to marry their leader -- the quick-tempered laird Connor MacAlister. S...more

So it happened... I found a book by Julie Garwood that I didn't love. Not that it was bad, it was just not up to par with the other Garwood books I've read.

The Wedding starts with 10-year-old Highlander Connor MacAlister promising his dying father to avenge his death by finding out and killing the ones who betrayed him. This promise basically defines Connor's whole life then and determines the course of his actions throughout the story. 16 years later, Connor's quest for revenge makes him steal...more

Looks like I'm one of the few who didn't enjoy this book. I had high hopes to start but ended up disappointed and frustrated for most of the books.

I found "The Wedding" frustrating, wearisome, and confusing at times. There were some funny and endearing parts, but those moments soon gave way to frustration again. I also had a devil of a time trying to connecting with these characters. I didn't hate the book but I certainly didn't like it either.

I'm not sure why this story didn't sit well w...more

ohh.. It was a good read alright!! :)

I have to say that i favor the themes where couple is married from the start, and make it work out. It eliminates some nonsense, specially from historical.

This book is the second installment of the Laird series. I enjoyed the The Bride, but i felt this books was much more thorough, hence more satisfying ending.

I loved the way Garwood developed this characters;we had enough information on both of them from their childhood.which makes the plot a notch more deep....more

It was a typical Julie Garwood book , bringing a big smile to your face and a few laughs while reading it , and a huge number of awws !! When the hero who of course arrogantly thinks he can get the heroine to submit to him and always listen to him , and the heroine decides that she will tame her husband and their struggles and fights and sweet moments together. And we read and think with our own secret smile , ah ! Fight all you want to but like all other heroes , evntually even you will fall in...more

Goodness, I've reread so many Julie Garwood books this month and all of them are such great favorites of mine that have fell off my radar. I've been reading books that I used to read twice a month and getting to know these characters all over again puts me in such a good mood and with the bad luck that I've been having, it's definitely a good thing.

This is my absolute favorite Julie Garwood novel and I'm bummed that I haven't read it in such a long time. Getting to know both Connor and Brenna ag...more

The Bride followed by The Wedding are, in my opinion, Garwood's best work. If you are new to Garwood, these 2 books are a great place to start.

Julie Garwood is different than most of the romance authors that I read in the fact that I find myself loving her heroines even more than her heroes! I usually read romance novels for the larger than life men they ususally come with, but Garwood's Ladies steal the show.

In The Wedding, Brenna is one of those "show stealers". This character is so refreshi...more

Another amazing book by Julie Garwood ! I really love her Historical Romance novels! The Wedding is the sequel to The Bride and tells of the amazing romance that develops between Breanna and Connor MacAlister. When Brenna was just a little girl Connor paid a visit to her home and she was captivated by him. She was always getting into mischief and when Connor saved her from an angry mother pig Breanna was determined to marry him one day so she asked Connor to marry her 3 times. Little did she kno...more

Love, Love, LOVE this book! It is a completely personal thing, everyone has their opinion of which Julie Garwood historical touches perfection most closely. I'm just saying this one is it for me. So..... gushing fan-girl review (which may or may not help a single soul) to follow:

I LOVE Brenna, the heroine, in her, I have found my doppelganger. That is both weird and wonderfully amazing. I understand her personality, her choices, her humor and I love every single one of those things.

I LOVE Conn...more

Julie Garwood is a favorite author, but this is my least favorite of all her books. I only read her historical fiction, not the line of contemporary romantic suspense which has led her astray ;-)

Some of my favorites are The Bride, The Gift, Honor's Splendor, Saving Grace, Ransom, The Secret.

OK, I admit it. A long time ago, I was a huge Julie Garwood's fan. She has been a big influence in my teenage life. I read her books all the time.

And I picked this one, just to rekindle my memory of her writings.

I guessed I have grown up. I cannot understand how I was once her fan. Her writings for this one is really slow paced, and the flow of her writings make me just want to throw away my Nook at some point. The plot is really unbelievable.

It has a promising start, but the plot just slide dow...more

4 1/2 stars for the humor and everything else that's garwood.

first off, connor is the least hero that i like in garwood's historicals. besides having a low, almost nil sense of humor, he has hardly shown that usual unconscious affection towards his lady love that garwood grants her chieftain/warrior/delicious-to-the-kilt males. more often than not, he is rude and sometimes even indifferent to brenna.

brenna, fortunately, is a very likeable heroine. her idiosyncrasies are so adorable.

This is actually a re-read for me, but since I read it backwards, I read The Bride first, I'm really looking forward to loving Connor again. He was "raised" by swoooooooooooooon-worthy Alec Kincaid after all!!!! ;)

Connor was more resistant than Alec, I know I shouldn't compare, but I enjoyed his journey. He's one of those "actions speak louder than words" guy...I'm married to one of those...gotta love 'em!!!

It's been a while since I rated a romance novel 5 stars! This one was REALLY good! And that's saying something, considering it was medieval Scotland...

I think I liked this book more than other romances for a few different reasons. There was lots of head-butting between hero and heroine, which you see fairly often, with a strong heroine. It had these conversations between them that were so cleverly written... One of the things that annoys me about a lot of romance novels is that the main issue is...more

I wasn't thrilled with the first book in the series, so I'm not sure what possessed me to read the second one. I think I was holding out hope that a different heroine might make for a more enjoyable story, but it turned out that I felt like I was reading much the same book all over again, but with even weaker personalities. Unfortunately, I found that I didn't like Brenna as a heroine for many of the same reasons that I didn't like Jamie. What was supposed to be plucky and charming just kind of...more

I have enjoyed the two books under the Laird’s Fiancés Series and wish Julie Garwood would have written more as I’ve gotten very fond of the world she has painted here and of the secondary characters that I would truly like to see again. Perhaps about Quinlan? He’s to be a laird soon… I can only hope JG revisits this series in the future.

In the first half of the book, I thought Julie Garwood rewrote the exact same story of The Bride with different names and a slight variation in the plot. The re...more

I like Julie Garwood books, but I am torn because she seems to write the same characters over and over. I understand the constraints on gender roles present in the Middle Ages, but a little more variety would make her books more worth reading. The Wedding suffered from utilizing those stock characters excessively without enough variation to make me love them. Brenna can be charming and lovable just like the other heroines that Garwood writes. She's sweet, loving, and innocent, but she also tries...more

This book made me laugh out loud! I originally read it back in 2002 when I borrowed it from my roommate since at that time, I wasn't a romance genre fan at the time. This book changed it simply because I love the way Connor and Brenna bantered. It was like reading fireworks, seeing them shoot off the page. The supporting characters were fabulous as well.

The Wedding stayed with me, even when I forgot the title and the author who wrote this fabulous story about Brenna who asked Connor to marry he...more

Julie Garwood has a way of making fall in love with historical romance all over again. The Wedding was an enchanting tale of how indifference can sometimes turn into intrigue, and how the most cold and guarded person can be warmed by love. As the last act of revenge against his sworn enemy, Connor takes the bride intended for MacNare and weds her himself. Not knowing what he was in for, Connor finds his new wife entertaining at best, and a loveable nuisance at worst.

Reading Julia Garwood brings me back to my college years and early 20s when I first started reading romance novels (before taking a nearly 15 year break). Ms. Garwood was always a favorite back then because of her spunky and sassy heroines who usually helped redeem, reform or otherwise get in line some hot alpha males who just needed a good woman around them to bring out their inner kindness. I found this book in the clearance rack at a library in small town MN - I couldn’t resist esp. with the...more

I actually liked this way more than 'The Bride'. It was crazy because I stayed up until five in the morning trying to finish it before finally having to go to sleep. 'The Wedding' had the same sort of scenario as the first book, but I felt like there was a much stronger plot this time around. The first book was full on romance with a random murder thing happening, which came off a bit weak. In this one, there was a more central plotline happening and an obstacle to overcome. For some reason, I m...more

Connor and Brenna MacAlister's book.

Brilliant. Love love loved this book. The worst part about this book is that I don't seem to see that there isa book 3! I just loved "The Bride" and now "The Wedding"

I think I love that both of these stories started out the beginning of each book with them getting married and THEN the story started. I just loved reading about them being married and them getting to know each other and falling in love. It was such a change (and pure joy) to read about them prac...more

This is one of those books which can make you laugh out loud starting from the first chapter up to the end. It was very entertaining. I can't put it down and I stayed awake in the wee hours of the morning just to finish it. I love the characters. I love the plot though it's unlikely to happen. This is more thrilling than the first book. I don't know if Garwood wrote this book as a mockery to English people because it's as though the E...more

I am finding I really like Julie Garwood. This book is a historical romance set in the Highlands of Scotland, which I love. The main heroine (Brenna) is very likable and smart, which is awesome. The main Hero (Connor) starts off as the typical emotionless warrior, but what is fun is watching how Brenna's emotionalism confuses him. He expects women to behave a certain way, and she doesn't, which is very confusing for a man who has had little to no emotionalism in his life. He knows honor and veng...more

it was not a perfect five stars. its more of 4.8 or 4.9. does it make a sense because honestly i will not settled for four star. the book was a favorite of mine, though i admit im not fully satisfied.

on the first half of this book, i felt i was going nowhere waiting for connor to improve his behavior towards brenna. they said he's cruel. is he? no, he just misinterpreted what brenna needed. he seemed always lost in guessing his wife's feeling. and so he did what he think was right for her and en...more
