Julie Garwood is actually one of the few romance authors whose shift to romantic-suspense style is one I approve of (although I must admit I've read only two of her romantic-suspense books!). I actually didn't see the little twist about the characters coming.
Back cover notes:

Good book...I didn't LOVE it, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. More so than I did "Shadow Dance" and maybe a smidge more than "Slow Burn".
Solid storyline, fairly good romance and characters - I LOVED John Paul - and it kept me wanting to keep reading. I was rather surprised at who one of the antagonists was...though looking back there were clues, I just wasn't expecting it. Which is cool. I'm not often surprised by that kind of thing. I liked this one!
Okay, so I'm reading these in the wrong order. That's okay - it doesn't seem that big a deal ... yet.
I really liked Michelle and Theo. The way they can tease each ohter, press each other's buttons, you could feel the sparks between them.
The setting was great and the plot wasn't bad either. I thought it weird that both plots from Mercy and Slow Burn are alike, but this one was much better.
The right about of adrenaline-pumping action in all the right plaes. And the...more

Garwoods new murder mystery/love story combo is pretty good. I enjoyed the story, but it still kind of follows the same plot as her other books. Nice girl meets totally hot cop/lawyer etc like. He likes her goes and saves her from someone who is trying to kill her for inheritance money. It was pretty predicable, but still enjoyable to read.

I am still reading this book. Getting close to the end. Finding it hard to put the book down. I have limited reading time and now finding that I'm picking the book up whenever I can. Even if it is to read a couple of pages.
I finished reading this book this week. The ending was great. A perfect ending to a good story.

This book is a quick read. I liked it, but it isn't brain food. I would recommend it for a plane or beach trip though. The characters are likable and interesting and the story has a couple of twists. It will keep you interested.

I found this book on my bookshelf and I have no idea when or where I got it. It actually was a nice little thriller. No thought needed. Sometimes it is nice to read those types of books.

There is the right blend of humor, romance, and mystery. It also helps that books is part of a series so you have read the other books you have a connection to the characters.

It's a great book that I really enjoy every time I read it. Anyone who likes suspense novels intertwined with romance would love any of Julie Garwood's books.
