Murder List (Buchanan-Renard #4)
There are few authors who can weave nail-biting thrills, edge-of-your-seat drama, and romantic suspense as masterfully as Julie Garwood. Now she ratchets up the tension with Murder List, in which evil is on the hunt– and proves to be methodically organized and chillingly successful.

When Chicago detective Alec Buchanan is offered a prime position with the FBI, it is the perfect opportunity to leave the Windy City and follow in his brothers’ footsteps to the top echelons of law enforcement. But first he must complete one last assignment (and one that he is not too happy about): acting as a glorified bodyguard to hotel heiress Regan Hamilton Madison. The gorgeous exec has become entangled in some potentially deadly business. Someone has e-mailed her a graphic crime-scene phot...more
I found the pace of this book to be too slow for a suspense-thriller. The danger level felt low, despite the fact that a determined killer was after the heroine. The whole "murder list" setup took quite a few chapters. (Basically -- Reagan makes a "murder list" as a seminar exercise for some quack she and her friends are trying to expose as a fraud, and then the killer gets ahold of it.)
Actually, here's the problem: The two main characters didn't do much acting. This was more a book of reactions...more

After not caring for Killjoy, which is the book before this book, I didn't think I'd care for any of Garwood's contemporaries but unlike everyone else, I really enjoyed the Buchanan books. I love the Buchanan family and though her contemporaries can't hold a candle to her historicals, I still like reading these books from time to time. Somebody dropped this book off on the office "get rid of these books for me" bookshelf. I saw it and couldn't help myself.

With the fourth installment of the Buchanan series things are starting to feel just a touch redundant. This one even took a couple of tries to really get into it, and once it picked up about a 100 pages in, I became slightly interested in the characters. But that's it. Slightly. Alec Buchanan fell a little flat compared to his other brothers. I liked that he was a bit of a slob, and when he started to get a little tied up in knots over Regan it was sort of endearing. But even she was sort of dul...more
Newly discovered, Julie Garwood is fast becoming my go to author for romantic suspense. Murder List pertains to such genre and delivers not only intrigue, romance but a great plot to support it.
Sure, at face value the premise merely detail a handsome detective (soon to be FBI agent), Alec Buchanan, whose task is to protect beautiful heiress, Regan Madison Hamilton. Sounds familiar? Cliche, perhaps? That was my initially impression as well and aspects of the story were that but many more importa...more

Hotel heiress Regan Hamilton Madison is flirting with danger. She agrees to help a journalist friend expose Dr. Lawrence Shields, a shady self-help guru who may have been responsible for the death of one of his vulnerable devotees. Hoping to find some damning evidence, Regan attends a Shields seminar, where the doctor has his guests make a list of the people who have hurt or angered them over the years and asks: Would your world be a better place if these people ceased to exist? Treating the exe...more
Despite the other reviews, I liked it and would definitely read other books in this series. I have a feeling the first four books were about Alec Buchanans other siblings in Boston...
The dialog did have annoying points though, where it went on for too long or the sentences uttered were slightly out of character. Garwood also has this habit of, in a split second, making something happen all of a sudden with no explanation. I found myself saying, wait, what..., reading back and realizing she made...more

Murder List by Julie Garwood is a entertaining romantic suspense novel. The basic plot like many other novels remains the same - a beautiful heiress Regan Madison Hamilton needs police protection as she is the center of attention of a maniac killer, and Detective Alec Buchanan steps in to play bodyguard for Regan.
Although the plot is quite expected of a romantic suspense novel, the characters are beautifully created and each holds their own in the story. The main leads - Alec and Regan were some...more

Julie Garwood is an excellent author when it comes to details. "Murder List" has such detailed descriptions of everything from clothes to people that a reader can clearly envision the story before them. One example of this is the description she gives for the main character’s school uniform. Garwood writes that the uniform was “a navy blue and gray plaid pleated skirt; a white blouse with mandatory pointed collar; a navy blue tie, knotted just like a man’s tie; and a matching gray blazer with a...more
It took me a while to get into this book, bot by any fault of the author, more like work, kids and life in general. Once I got "involved," however, I had it read in a night.
Regan Madison goes to a conference with her two best friends. Their intent is to expose the scumbag "quack" psychologist, for the murdering, con-artist they believe him to be. The quack instructs the group to compose a list of names...names that would make life easier if they vanished from the list maker's life. Regan thinks...more

Julie Garwood is one of my favorite authors. She writes the story to include mystery, suspense, and romance. They are all equal and one doesn't overshadow the other. They blend together, mystery, suspense and romance. This story is about Regan Madison. She's rich, beautiful and smart, but she is also very insecure about romance. Then along comes Alec to upset the apple cart. Alec is assigned to project her after a picture is emailed to Regan of a dead cop. Alec is about to leave the police depar...more
I liked this book a lot because it was fun and entertaining. I finished the last page satisfied. The chracters were likeable and each had their own story. I wouldn’t mind reading more about each of the brothers. The two best friends too could use their own stories.
It is only now that I’m typing this that I realize there were quite a few aspects that could have been better. I wish we’d spent a little more time in the mind of the killer and the execution of the list was not exactly edge of your se...more

Let me begin by saying that I did not take note that this was a "#4" in a series and have not read numbers 1, 2 & 3. And I never will. I listened to this on audiobook while traveling which would explain why I actually finished it: I had no other options. I found myself wondering if perhaps the slow, unappealing reading by the voice actor was the source of my hatred of this book, but after further thought I came to the conclusion that the dialogue and plot description really were JUST THAT AW...more
If you are in the mood for a romance, this is a very good one; I couldn't put it down. The end, of course, is no surprise...we know that when we read this genre, and that is one of the reasons that I like these books. When I want to feel good, I don't want to think too hard nor do I want to worry about my problems, I like to read a romance. Of course, I like it to be a good one and Julie Garwood is one of my favorite authors of this type of book. This story, like most of hers, is written very we...more
I absolutely loved Regan. She was such a great character and half the time I just wanted to give her a hug. I liked seeing her with her protective brothers and liked it even better when she started standing up for herself with them. It was kind of sad that we never got to meet Walker though, even at the end he didn't show up. Although Alec wasn't my favorite Buchanan brother, he was still pretty great. The only thing I found lacking in this book was the fact that it all started out with trying t...more
I loved reading this book! Alec is my kind of hero. This is another of Julie Garwoods best. Check it out if you want some exciting romance in your life.
Another new author for my list. This little suspense mystery has Detective Alec Buchanan about to leave the Chicago force for a new career in the FBI. His boss who is disliked by most everyone assigns him to body guard Regan Hamilton one of for siblings and the only girl who own and run an international hotel chain. Regan, through strange events has become a target of a nutcase, this the bodyguard. She is smart and a knockout and having met Alec nature takes over. ot a bad story, a quick read an...more
Good Garwood. Her medieval books are still my favorite but her character in this one, Regan, I just really felt for her. Probably because she reminds me of my oldest daughter who "needs" to cry about everything and will tell you so.
We have Regan and Alec (hotel heir and fbi agent) thrown together due to attempts on Regan's life. Regan's older brother's who have basically raised her and managed to get her to stifle her emotional need to cry. I felt really sorry for her until the end and then it w...more

Regan Madison is a hotel heiress. She runs a charitable foundation in one of the hotels that is owned by her and her 3 brothers.

When I started reading this book I didn't know it was supposed to be a "romance" type book. I was going by the title & expecting a "detective" or suspense style. Well, there was actually very little detecting going on and a lot of loose threads that were never really explained. It made the whole book a little distracting. The worst part wasn't that it was a romance, but that it was a "typical" romance. You know the kind. The woman loves the man but she doesn't think he loves her so she prete...more
The first Julie Garwood book I read I was not impressed and only decided to pick this up to see if I had read a dud. I think that book was a dud because this book surpassed my expectations (granted they were low) and I thoroughly enjoyed this.
The characters weren't super heroes and able to do all things and they did have some character flaws which made them come off as a bit more real.
Romance was cute and I like that it was more a push and pull, I love tension.

The series continues with another compelling story with this fourth book. There is a perfect pitch between the romantic and suspense elements and it moves quickly. I also liked the added "girlfriends" component of the storyline, providing the main character, Regan Madison, with realistic dimensions. Alec Buchanan is nicely defined as her love interest along with others from the Chicago Police Department to flesh out his role. Regan's brothers could be better developed but overall, this is a good...more

I enjoy Julie Garwood's contemporary romantic suspense. The Murder List was no exception, although it wasn't her best effort.
The plot has something in common with Linda Howard's Mr. Perfect, although without the humor of Howard's book. In both books several female friends end up making lists, and the list puts people in danger. In The Murder Room, the danger centers on Regan Madison, a hotel heiress who made the Murder List as part of a self-help guru's "cleansing" exercise. The list is suppose...more

This is book 4 in the Buchanan series, about Alec Buchanan and Regan Hamilton. First off I thought I wasn't going to like Regan but as the book progressed my first assumption was completely wrong. Regan turned out to be a perfect heroine at least to me. I really liked Alec as well but what I found in this book was that it was mostly all about Regan. That fact didn't bother that much but I did think it was a little odd. I had stated in my review of Killjoy that I thought it was all about the Susp...more
Hotel heiress Regan Madison life turns for the worst when she agrees to join her two best friends in a scheme to nail a self-named help guru that schemes lonely, depressed women in giving him their life savings. The three join his seminar in hopes of collecting proof against him, but things are never that simple.
The seminar‘s first exercise is to compile a so-called murder list, a list of people you want erased from your radar. Regan, thinking it might be fun, compiles the list.

This book as well as a couple more by this author have been on my shelf for a couple of years now. A friend recently read another book by this author and raved about it, so I started reading them. The books I have read so far seem to follow the lives of the Buchanan brothers. I like the continuity of characters through the different books and I like the light romance with mystery intertwined.

It's been a really long time since I've read one of Julie Garwood's romantic suspense novels, since before I started writing reviews to be exact. Murder List was a pretty good read, and about on par with what I remembered of the other books in the Buchanan series, but not quite up to the caliber of some other romantic suspense authors I've read more recently. Having a killer on the loose, who seems to be obsessing on the heroine, worked reasonably well from a suspense/thr...more
