"A Step Ahead of Death" was an interesting book. I'd say the first 1/3 of this book was my favorite. After that, it takes some pretty wild turns that, honestly, stretched even my imagination. If I had to pick one word to describe this book, I'd pick "bipolar". I don't mean that in a strictly bad way, just that it swings from one extreme to the other rather suddenly. I read this book in one day. That is a good thing as it means that it is well written and I want to find out the end, who did it. I liked the way the story lines converged to find out what happened. You get just enough of each character and their background where I find myself wanting to know more about them and how they fit into the entire story. Gradually, you find out more about each one and their role in the initial crime scene. Look forward to more from this author.

I really enjoyed this book in spite of all the errors. By that I mean the wrong use of words or using a word double or as an example the first chapter described the body as not wearing any rings but on the cover is a hand with a ring clearly on it! This type of lazy editing bugs me. But, really enjoyed the book and would highly recommend it.
I couldn't put this book down. It was unique as most books like this are written by lawyers, but I found it compelling because it was written by a doctor. It also took enough twists and turns to be compelling and had a very different ending than I thought it would. I would highly recommend it for anyone.

He has often had a patient chide him for ending his first novel with a cliff-hanger and making them wait to find out what happens next. Author of three novels, he continues to look ahead to new projects and ideas for additions to his series about Jack Sharp, M.D. He has successfully looked at h ...moreMore about Scott McPherson...
