3.5 stars. A campy, nutty, off-the-wall blood-lite vampire romance not recommended for the serious PNR lovers or those with delicate sensibilities.
I almost DNFd this one a half dozen times, but something about Ephraim and the weirdness of the story kept me reading. It was full of absurd plotting, a motley crew of nutty characters, all mixed with some off-the-wall world building. WTFery on near...more

Loved every page of this book and didn't want it to end. I am so happy I decided to read a paranormal romance. It has gotten me back on the horse again. R.L. Mattewson is an excellent author and I would recommend this book as well as her others to everyone.
This book actually caught me by surprise. The fact that it was a free download on Barnes & Noble didn't hurt either. However, since I have to base all my reviews on honesty, the cost of a book won't sway me either way.
This story begins in early 1800's London. "Ephraim," the story's hero, who also happens to be a 10 year old boy, is transforming into a vampire. After a month in a coma, Ephraim now looks like a fully grown man of 25. His family is stunned into disbelief only adding to the chao...more

TALL,DARK AND LONELY
was not only surprising but a very different from Mathewson's usual story-read. i found the characters to be light and humorous adding up the story in there own unique way while fitting into the plot easily.
initially when i started this i found the lead character,Ephraim,(pyte) kinna resembling Stephanie Meyer's edward cullen,in her debt novel Twilight.
now im not saying Ephraim and Edward are alike.no.

I loved it. A light paranormal with a heavy dose of smexings, what not to love right? Ephraim just about melted me to puddles. He was such a sweet, sweet Pyte. Pytes are like vampires, they drink blood but they can walk in the daylight unlike the vampires. So, I would say that every vampire wanna be just like Ephraim.
I will definitely check out his son's, Chris book next. I felt all kinds of wrong for crushing on Chris. He was just sixteen here but he was very hilarious and I hope he will be a...more
Hmmm, not really what I was expecting.
I usually love anything PNR, but for me, this didn’t have the feel of a great PNR. The paranormal element wasn’t really explained, and was still unwinding in the final pages of the book. And there didn’t seem to be a strong storyline. There were lots of little tangents that go off for seemingly no purpose at all (view spoiler)...more

I loved the Neighbors from Hell series, but this just didn't work for me :S It was interesting enough, but I didn't get caught in the story, or the main characters. I hope I'll read the other 2 books sometime later, maybe they'll be better.

Tall Dark and Lonely has given me a new vampire to love! I LOVE EPHRAIM!
I was hooked on this book from the first sentence. I stayed up into the wee hours of the morning finishing this book. I couldn’t get enough of Ephraim! Madison is a wonderful counterpart to Ephraim. She tests his resolve and patience. They are a dynamic pair and keep each other their toes.

I read Tall, Dark and Lonely in just a day. It was a quick and easy read and also very enjoyable.. many scenes made me blush! I first discovered R.L. Mathewson when I read her novel Playing For Keeps which I LOVED! I wanted to read more from her and discovered this novel. At only 99 cents I couldn't pass it up.

I was attempting to be a bit more budget conscious in April, particularly with regards to my Nook addiction. These books were only 99 cents! I bought the whole series, plus the Neighbor from Hell books, for less than the cost of a new book from a more popular author. I was pleasantly surprised with the world Matthewson has built here. There is a good blend of paranormal romance and plot, in addition to a good amount of humor. Some of the writing is a bit rough around the edges, but the story was...more
Absolutely loved it,Ephraim-Madison adored them both, enjoyed their bickering & fights, the cruelty that Ephraim suffered made me cry but he came out as a warrior, loved Chris-Joshua's bonding, going on next book of the series.
Overall a very good read

I love Madison-Ephraim. I absolutely enjoy this book. Although this started harsh, brutal, cruel but I'm happy it turns out as entertaining, sizzling hot, heart-melting sweet. I love how their family bond together even if they are not related by blood. I like Chris, Joshua and the drama queen Jill. I also like the Grandma. I love the story telling, I love the uniqueness of the plot, kinda new from the vampire craze, but above all I just like how the author mold every character to have endearing...more
What a surprise this book was! Just reading the synopsis had me hooked. Tall, Dark & Lonely is one of the best PNR stories I’ve read in a while and Ephraim…

Madison has been in charge of taking care of her siblings for most of her life. But now, she’s finally got a good job and is ready to give her brother and sister a better life.

Where do I begin? I really enjoyed the first part of the novel. I could identify with the heroine - young woman abandoned by her mother has to take care of her younger siblings while mom is screwing around. The whole family ends up moving in with the grandmother, who runs a boarding house. The young heroine, Madison, is determined not to be anything like her mother. She's hard working, chaste, and has a hard time trusting.

Very enjoyable, very different PNR! I had one or two issues with the storyline, but other than that this is well-written and quite unique. Ephraim...wow, my goodness, did I love him or what?! Yeah, I LOVED him...big time. His tragic past made me hurt so bad for him, but now he has hope in this rag-tag family that invades his space at the boarding house he lives in. I liked Madison ALOT. She was protective, strong, quirky, funny and she had no hope at all when it came to her attraction for Ephrai...more
Another thoroughly enjoyable read by R.L. Mathewson! Ephraim was hot, grumpy, brooding, dangerous - everything you'd want in a gorgeous vampire who also is a cop. This again had everything from humor, suspense, to yummy adult sexual situations with a great supporting cast of well-defined secondary characters. I'm looking forward to reading Chris's story in this series. He had that quick sarcastic humor I love so much. This is a 4.5 stars read(minus a half star because unlike her novel, Perfectio...more

Im reading the first couple of chapters of this book and I was cracking out laughing and I was like yay! I found a five star book! the beginning was funny and I liked both hero and heroine , I also liked when they first met that it wasnt an instant attraction to him that he didn't instantly declare his love for her, although the second he saw her looking hot he was suddenly into her and her virgin blood.

So far I love all of R.L. Mathewson's books I have read and this one is no different. I absolutely loved it. It was interesting from the very beginning. Towards the middle Madison and Ephraim's relationship felt rushed, everything was happening so fast that I would have enjoyed the author adding another 100 pages or so and letting you take the time to fall in love with their relationship. Don't get me wrong I loved the story of Madison and Ephraim, I just would have liked their relationship to h...more
Not for the faint hearted. And after i read this, i finally understood what other reviewers were saying. Some of the things written were so crude, either you cant stomach else you are repulsed by it. I wont mention the details cause remembering it... still makes me shudder in an awful way. I also hated Madison's mother, what she did to Jill... let's not think of that too, unpleasant feelings.

Honestly, I was so impressed with RL Mathewson's hideous neighbours books that I was happy to find that this had been a free kindle download and rushed off to read it. Sadly it's like it was written by another author or at least has been hidden down the back of the lounge for years and the author's talent considerably improved since.

Whenever I see a guy riding an ostrich for a race, I lean in to watch, love the sprint out of the gate and the balancing act until the rider gets seated. So much fun to watch!....but then, once they just start roaming along, I lose interest and wish it was actually a monkey riding a dog instead - now THAT is entertaining. That's how this book was. It started off with some really fun characters including the dark handsome main character. But, then they all got seated into the story and they just...more

So maybe the writing wasn't perfect and there were a few holes in the plotline, but I was still completely sucked into this book. It grabbed me from the Prologue. I learned the hard way that I shouldn't have started this at midnight as an "Oh, I'll just read a quick chapter and see what this is about." Bad idea, because I was up until 5am until my eyes were burning, slept a few hours, then finished it the next day. I found this crazy story addicting. I loved Ephraim and Madison, even...more

I was on a roll reading 3 books by R.L. Mathewson in the three days prior to picking up this book . This book started out very interesting . I was hooked from the beginning. It dated back to the 1890's when a boy who was 16 but looked 10 slipped into a coma and a month later woke up in a 25 year old man's body. His eye's glowed red when he was mad and he bit one of the maids.Ephraim then was placed in a dungeon and tortured for 20 years and I mean tortured like you wouldn't believe. After his bo...more

I absolutely love this book! I've had it on my Kindle for a couple of weeks, but I have this tendency to read shorter pieces first, so I just kind of ignored it. And then while I was looking at a book on Amazon, I saw a discussion about possessive male characters and this book was mentioned. I was like, "Okay, it's been here for a while, let's just read it and get it over with."

I originally got this book from amazon because it was free and I generally like vampire romance so I thought I'd try it. However, I wound up waiting to read it for a while and read another of R.L. Mathewson's books - Playing for Keeps - first. I loved the author's writing style - light humor with deep characters. I starting to read this book last evening and seriously had to convince myself that I needed to get to bed. I wanted to know what was going to happen so much I read well into the night....more

Actually, she and Joshua thanked your Grandmother for putting you at the other end of the house, something about finally getting a decent night’s sleep. They compared your snore to a chainsaw. I can see why they’d say that.”
