You know why...lol

But seriously, I had so much fun writing this novel and seeing where my characters went with each chapter. The roller-coaster of emotions they took me on in this first novel was thrilling, emotional (both dramatic and romantic), suspenseful and at times—shocking. Absolutely unique, this book will have you up at four in the morning with your eyelids taped to your eyebrows... that's how good it is. A must read of 2011!

Overall, it is a very interesting book that kicks off what I hope to be a great series, and while I first gave it 4.5, I'm going to bump it up to 5 just because the ending was a great cliffhanger that has me waiting for the sequel, whenever it should be released. :)

Isn't that cover awesome?! I actually read this book back in December 2011 before I had a book blog, but because the author (RJ Gonzales from RJ Does Books) is so amazingly awesome, as is his writing, I had to do a re-read so I could post a proper review and also do an author interview(so stay tuned for that)! I actually read this book back in December 2011 before I had a book blog, but because the author (RJ Gonzales from RJ Does Books) is so amazingly awesome, as is his writing, I had to do a re-read so I could post a proper review and also do an author interview(so stay tuned for that)! Plus, it's one of my favorite books so re-reading Mundahlia was already on my to-do list!

"Great. My life has suddenly become a young-adult novel."

The characters, oh where to start with the characters! I have to say that each character was unique with their own personalities, they were all likable (yes, even Ray) some more then others (um. . .Veee-ra, not Veh-ra), but they all added to the overall feel of the story. They each had a part to play and never once got lost in the background or plot line. Now, on to Rini and Jett. I said this in my tiny review in December, but Rini is my favorite type of female protagonist. She's a strong female that is sweet, but still doesn't let anyone push her around. She's smart and gorgeous, she's sassy and sarcastic, but also knows how to be serious. She's just plain kick-ass! Jett is everything a girl (or guy) could want. Sweet, tough, caring, passionate. You name it and it most likely is applicable to Jett. Mundahlia is mostly told from Rini's perspective, but we are lucky enough to have a few of Jett's perspectives slipped in there as well.

Jett: "Are you saying you want to become a Mundahlian slayer?" he laughed

Rini: "Just for the bad guys. Besides, Buffy has the vampires pretty much covered."

The plot line is smooth sailing at first, sweeping you away into a romantic, budding relationship and then. . . you are literally slammed with the twists as they start piling up, taking you in directions that you never saw coming. RJ Gonzales even said this himself, that you get a fun, light-hearted book that turns into a darker, grittier book as the story picks up. The flow between the two tones is effortless, never seeming forced or too much. It flows with a natural ease because this IS the story. It wouldn't have been as great if it wasn't taken to that darker place. A warning: it does contain gore and extremely emotional scenes, be prepared to read through your fingers (or like me, plug your ears -> Am I the only one that plugs my ears during scary movies?) and have your tissues handy. Mundahlia has such a rich, extensive background that will instantly draw you in. Really, the history behind the land of Mundahlia is incredible and unlike any other story I have ever read. Positively original!

If you are a fan of werewolves, paranormal and romance then please! Don't miss out on Mundahlia! You will not be disappointed. Another warning: there are some sensitive scenes in Mundahlia that some readers might not find very pleasant. Read with discretion, but read it nonetheless. Age recommendation, I'd have to say 16 or 17+

Contemporary Romance, Paranormal, Fantasy?

R.J. Gonzales has meshed these genres well in the first book of the Mundahlian era. It is a captivating read. We have a well-developed romance and ancient creatures that Humans only thought were part of myths and legends. Political intrigue and a land called Mundahlia brings in the fantasy aspect.

I hope to see a lot more from this writer even in other genres. Highly recommended. 4.5 Stars - ebook edition (ePub format)

Review: I was not really sure on how to rate Mundahlia but i think I will settle for a 2.5 stars. This review might be a little bit vague bit it’s mostly because I try to keep it as spoiler free as possible and this is quite difficult here
I really liked the premises of the book and I have to give the author a lot of cookies point for this originality behind the story.

I really liked parts of the book. It reminded me a lot of Twilight and in some ways I liked some parts more BUT it had so many awkward and childish sexual situations that were just kind of icky and dumb and then many just plain gross parts that I just couldn't really give it more than 3 stars. This was an interesting experience for me, because my feelings about this book drastically changed as I was reading it. What I loved about the first part of this story was the gradual revelation of Jett's existence. Rini was hearing strange noises, seeing things in the woods, fearing the unknown; and then we see Jett's POV and how he is so desperate to be near her but is uncertain how to approach her after their first brief encounter. It was exciting and made my heart race as we saw from his perspective how drawn to Rini he was. He was sexy and strong, and his sweet loving side made me anxious for them to finally really meet. Rini was brave enough to seek out the mystery behind what she was seeing, and she was just a really cool character as she got dragged into the world of the Mundahlians. But then suddenly, just as normally I'd expect the heroine to start falling for the hero and the pulse-racing romance to start heating up, Rini became this child-like girl who practically blushed at the thought of a boy wanting to hold hands. It was strange, and her uppity behavior kind of irritated me for awhile. I mean, she's 19, not 12! I have to say, though, I'm glad I pushed through and didn't give up on her, because she FINALLY got over herself and realized that with a gorgeous shape-shifting hunk as a potential BF, she may want to stop looking down her nose at him!!! The physical aspects of their 'romance' still left much to be desired since they came across as too rushed and just laid out there, but I was just relieved that this didn't turn out to be some tale of preachy chastity.

As for the plot, my feelings pretty much run the same as they did for the h/h. After the slow-paced middle of the story, I was very happy to have the antagonists finally brought to center stage. There was one part in particular that spelled very bad news for the blossoming relationship between Rini and Jett, and OH MY did it have me spitting mad in a good way!! R.J. Gonzales definitely doesn't hold anything back when it comes to the trials that his hero and heroine have to suffer through in order to be together, and it was awesome!! It reminded me of Amy Bartol's incredible story-telling with her antagonists in the way they truly are made to make you cringe and fume from the moment they enter the story!! Once Bane's maddening plot starts to play out, I was hooked and couldn't stop reading until the very last words. I was livid, then terrified, then disgusted, crushed, and then finally felt like I could release the breath that I'd been holding. It definitely made up for the slower parts of the story, and it left me very anxious to read the next book in this series. Hopefully Gonzales sticks with the incredible story-telling he gives in the second half of this book, because if he does then it's guaranteed to be unforgettable!

I enjoyed the book very much. there were a few things that boggled me. for instance, almost everyone felt the need to use at least one Spanish word, even Bane who didn't even live in Texas. then there was the part that clearly Rini is supposed to know Spanish however she didn't know what Del ordered at the restaurant. The back and forth wasn't too hard to get used to thankfully to the labeled chapters. all in all its a great book a few small grammatical errors but nothing that stops u in Ur trac...more

I wish I had time to write a review on this book. I actually give it 31/2 stars. I can't give it more because this book could still use a good editor and at times the plot was way ... and I mean way out there.... yep to the point of shocking. However having said that, I have to say I like that Gonzales was willing to go way out there. I really like an author who zigs when I think they are going to zag.

A brilliant fantasy world created by the author, with inhabitants that you could only imagine in dreams (or not even that way) is mixed with our world in such a smooth and perfect way that pulls you in immediately.

I admit that sometimes I wanted to punch Jett in the face but well... he had a good excuse for being that way lol.
The love story is intriguing and sweet.
The bad guy is infuriating! (as he should be, of course)

This is a ebook I received free from Amazon and you would think free not going to be very good. I have found a lot of books free lately that have turned out to be five stars and this one is no exception. Loved loved this book. There was love, coming of age, people shifting into monsters, action and a few gory parts. This book has it all. It held my attention from page 1 to the end.

The book has an interesting premise and it is well paced, so I want to read the next book. However, the author needs to get a new editor because the editing near the end of the book was a huge distraction. I'm used to the usual errors one finds in ebooks, but this was excessive.

Ugh, I did not like any of the characters. The idea was interesting, but the story did not flow well for me at all. If you want a cheesy teen romance that is vaguely reminiscent of Twilight, then go for it. Otherwise, I'd seek out something with more solid characters and plot.
