The plot can be summed up by this quote, oddly enough, from a cat:

"They've stopped circling and spitting and now they're having a good time."

Excellent short read about Yarontanji and Asrayan, two minor characters from Ismine's Smoke. The world building, plus casually scattered hints at the two men's non-humaness, pull the reader totally into their world. The main characters played secondary roles in another novel, Smoke. More spies than warriors, Ji and Rayan, as they are mostly called, specialize in nipping problems in the bud. We get to go along on two missions, which are exquisitely tense in themselves and do not dump an entire Federation's worth of politics on us. Not bad! This was a random find for me and I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Rayan's character was a bit on the thin side, while some of his responses were not really explained adequately for me - but the overall story kept me entertained albeit briefly... :)
