You know what freaks me out a bit? That I never finished this book....
I was reading it, and then I wasn't and it was two weeks later and I found it in the back of my closet.

It was just...good. But I there were parts that were so boring I wanted to tear my eyes out. And I have to admit that after three books of action and drama of apocalyptic proportions, I think I was a little tired of it.

I'll have to see what my cousin thinks. They were like her favorite books, and she hasn't read this yet.

I wanna learn more about Link and I seriously am getting annoyed with the new moons... but I love the lyrical things in it. I hope something happens to Lena, that she finally picks a side or something else, then that is definitely chaotic :)

I started reading Beautiful Chaos with a huge smile and ended up with a frown on my face.

After the great adventure I experienced with Beautiful Darkness, I expected Beautiful Chaos to surpass the excitement and thrill of the 2nd book of the Caster Chronicles. Sadly, it just dragged on; and to think that I was really, really eager to see a lot of great things from this book.

I've long felt (particularly with the previous book Beautiful Darkness) that the Caster Chronicles (1) don't need to each be 500 pages long and (2) don't even need to be a series. A book or two could have probably done the job.

But here we are at massive book #3. I do still very much like the series and considering the cliffhanger, am patiently waiting for book #4. Beautiful Chaos has many of the strengths of its predecessors: the rich Southern atmosphere (I practically read this series just for...more I've long felt (particularly with the previous book Beautiful Darkness) that the Caster Chronicles (1) don't need to each be 500 pages long and (2) don't even need to be a series. A book or two could have probably done the job.

But here we are at massive book #3. I do still very much like the series and considering the cliffhanger, am patiently waiting for book #4. Beautiful Chaos has many of the strengths of its predecessors: the rich Southern atmosphere (I practically read this series just for that), the poetic writing and a cast of characters I care about who are both quirky and human. That probably goes a long way to explaining the book's length: the authors just want to watch these characters go about their not-so-normal everyday lives. I really like those segments. If only they weren't mixed in with the "something terrible is going to happen" trick the authors have pulled on their readers twice already.

The "plot" sits in "something terrible is going to happen" mode for about 400 hundred pages. Call it 'the question stage.' Then the reader gets about 100 pages to actually clear up the mysteries ('the answer stage') and then the last 30 or so for the thing you were waiting for to really start ('the consequence stage'). And then the authors cut it short: they end on a cliffhanger. So I can only imagine that book #3 has really just been prologue to book #4.

I spent too much time yelling at the characters, "It's ----!" but didn't get sated until it was too late and the authors wouldn't even let me enjoy the payoff. I was practically cheering the character to his/her death just for the pure pleasure of "something is actually happening!" The main push, of course, is for me to buy book #4 and I suppose it has worked in so far as I might be annoyed but invested enough in these characters to see them through.

I don't know how to solve this "imbalance": between the slice-of-life stuff and the high stakes "our love is destroying the world" stuff. At least, Beautiful Chaos handled it better than Beautiful Darkness.(less)

Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl

Waiting one year for this book after reading Beautiful Darkness was absolute torture. October was legit the month where all my favorite original YA series came out. Beautiful Creatures, Hush Hush, well they started my love for YA and a bunch of other genres. And after FINALLY reading Beautiful Chaos...well I have to say that I was not disappointed.

When I first opened the book, I was a little confused with what was going on because it's been so long since I've read the previous two books in the series. But everything quickly came back when the plot picked up. Everything was an absolute nightmare in Gatlin because of the Order being broken. The plot in this book was very exciting and nerve racking, especially with all the drama going on which I loved.

Another thing I love in this book is Ethan Wate! After two books, he is finally without a doubt swoonworthy in this book. He has grown up so much and finally doesn't seem overtly feminine like he did in the last book. My heart just ached for him after all he had to suffer through, right up to the end but I know that he cared for absolutely everyone in the book.

I also liked Lena a lot more in this book. It was nice for a change to see a couple want to be together and fight to be together instead of apart or even better, go through a love triangle. Thankfully, they moved on from this stage. Lena also matured a lot and it was great to see how involved she was in the relationship. So much more than she was from the last book. I could really feel the love this time and it was great. :)

It was really great seeing more of some of my old favorite characters. Amma of course, although she was more emotional in this book than ever before but for good reasons. It made me heartbroken to see her so sad. I also liked seeing Ethan's dad a lot more, especially since he's becoming more of himself. It was a surprise not seeing much of Macon in this book and he seemed more grave about what was to come.

But of course, my favorite character...Link! My dear Linkubus! Holy cow, Link was so so so precious in this book. Watching him going through his changes was strange but he was still Ethan's best friend through it all, beginning to end. And he loved Ridley. At first, Ridley and Link had a cute 'I'm going to make you jealous' game going on but then it got old. And my heart absolutely broke when (view spoiler)[Link said he wanted to take her cross country, just the two of them, because he loved her. I got so mad when Ridley said no. I mean, its so obvious they care about each other that it made me mad when she wasn't willing to go halfway because of her insecurities. (hide spoiler)] But I have a feeling this will be resolved by the end. Fingers crossed!

I was also pleasantly surprised with the twist on John Breed, especially with all that happened in the last book. I also liked Liv a lot more, especially since she only wanted to be friends with Ethan and she had her eyes set on another...;)

Overall, I loved this book so much. The ending absolutely killed me. As it was approaching, I could not stop crying because of the characters who didn't get their happy ending. But at the same time, there's still a chance for a good ending with the way Kami and Maragaret left it. I don't want to have to wait another damn year to get this book but unfortunately, time machines haven't been invented yet. Can't wait to see how this series finally ends.

I have not finished this book. And I need to state that I get quite irritated when I read reviews and the reviewer says they haven't finished the book yet. But, I don't think I can get through the book and I wanted to write about it. Maybe I will skim it just to see how it ends. Well... To start I am kind of disappointed with this book. First, I don't like books in the in between of the series, meaning that they star with some problem (the plot) and end up not resolving that problem. Second, I really wanted to like this book, I was patient enough to finish it.

The cliff hanger. Oh the cliff hanger. How I hate cliff hangers.
The way the story ends... ughhh! I really can't believe it. Never have I read a book with this big of a cliff hanger.
Anywho, continuing on.
I liked Beautiful Chaos a lot more than Beautiful Darkness. There are a lot of secrets and a lot of sleuthing but on the down side, I found this book was very predictable. Well, at least some parts... the most important part.

So, I am a really big fan of the Caster Chronicles, I devoured the first book and the novella - Book 2.5. I'm not sure what happened with Book 2 to be honest. I just didn't connect with Lena, and that irritated me to no end. So I was hesitant to read Book 3 (this book), but I'm back to loving the series, so I guess Book 2 was a one off. We'll just go with Lena wasn't herself and now she's back. And from a certain point of view, the authors did an awesome job of portraying her/the situation from Ethan's point of view and confusing the heck out of everybody. But in this book, her relationship with Ethan is stronger than ever.

The only thing standing in the way of this book getting 5 stars is the length. I never really thought I would say that a book was too long but here I am. While I LOVED about 90% of this book, I think that it is a little long for YA.

So while Ethan finally gets his Lena back, nothing else seems to be going right. Only this time it's not just the Caster world that's being affected. If they don't find a way to restore the Order before the Eighteenth Moon then both Caster & Mortals are going to meet an untimely fate.

The question is will The One That Is Two be willing to meet his/her fate to save all others? And more importantly who is this person? With so many choices as to who it could be will Lena, Ethan, and the gang be able to figure it out in time and save the world?

First I just want to say how HAPPY I am that Lena and Ethan are finally back to the loving relationship that they should be in. Together they are both so sweet, and cute, and *swoons*. Need I say more? Because I can...I really, really could just keep going on and on about how cute these two are. It's nice to see this book isn't all about fighting for their relationship anymore. It's nice to see them a whole lot less insecure and a lot in love with each other.

But enough about them. What about Amma? OMG I both loved and hated her in this book. I never released how much I needed Amma until this book. Just the things she says, and the things she does...I love her for all her dark moments, but then to see her break down? To slowly lose it piece by piece? Lets just say that she took my heart with her mind when she lost those final pieces. In the end between her and Ethan I spent the last 20 pages crying to the point I had to keep putting the book down to wipe my eyes.

So while I thought that this book was a bit long in places, and at times wasn't sure if I was going to be able to finish it, in the end I LOVED this book and it was so worth it! With an ending that will make you ball your eyes out you'll be left screaming for more. I can't believe how they left the ending, but I so applaud them for doing it.(less)

No person in Gatlin has gone unaffected, Caster or Mortal, whether they're aware of the dark and supernatural world that exists alongside them or not. Lena's Claiming had detrimental effects, shattering the Order of Things. Caster powers are unpredictable, Gatlin is suffering it's greatest ever heat wave and Ethan is..... different. Memories are slowly beginning to escape him and cryptic dreams once again...more It's not an exaggeration to say that the events of Beautiful Darkness were a game changer. No person in Gatlin has gone unaffected, Caster or Mortal, whether they're aware of the dark and supernatural world that exists alongside them or not. Lena's Claiming had detrimental effects, shattering the Order of Things. Caster powers are unpredictable, Gatlin is suffering it's greatest ever heat wave and Ethan is..... different. Memories are slowly beginning to escape him and cryptic dreams once again haunt his nights. The stakes are raised ten fold in Beautiful Chaos as mayhem and disorder reach an unbearable crescendo, dark forces are striking harder and more often and the emotional weight on the characters is monumental.

There is a terrible secret eating away at Amma's heart and she grows more darker and frantic than Ethan has ever seen. It was shocking to see a character who is ordinarily so strong and knowing, begin to crumble in the way she did - but understandably so. Everyone is impacted in some way or another. Link (or Linkubus <3) is growing into his new found 'superpowers', but his emotional turmoil lay with Ridley. They have such a dysfunctional, back-and-forth relationship, but you can see they truly care about each other. There's a lot of angst and frustration for them and you just want to shake them both and say "BE TOGETHER!" I love Ridley, even if I want to smack her upside the head sometimes for her choices!

And of course, there is some tension between Ethan, Lena and Liv. Don't worry, it's far from ever being a love triangle. In fact, Liv may actually be finding a spark of romance elsewhere.... in quite an unexpected person! (Who, for the record, I totally approve her with). But I definitely felt the frustration while Ethan and Liv avoided one another, because I just wanted them to be friends again! And it was so clear they missed one another. I loved how it played out though, and especially how that tension between Lena and Liv was released... it made for quite an amusing scene!

It's the small details, so masterfully sprinkled throughout that make Gatlin feel so real and familiar each time you dive into a new book. And it makes it all the more heartbreaking when tragedy strikes. More than once I was left devastated by a turn of events and especially during the end, where I unashamedly shed a few tears. Those scenes were so heartfelt and beautifully written, I dare anyone who has come to love these characters, to not feel some emotion for what happens.

Beautiful Chaos is the darkest and most emotional installment yet. The Gatlin you grew to love is torn apart and your favourite characters must each face some of their darkest hours. Not all will survive the crushing wheel of fate and sacrifices are made that will change everything. It ends on a crazy, 'NOOOOOOOOO,' cliffhanger that will have you biting your nails down to stubs until the fourth novel comes out! Which, for the sake of my sanity, I sincerely hope is soon.(less)

Vous savez, cette sensation de fondre dans chaque page, dans chaque mot, d'être ancré dans l'histoire à peine le roman effleuré. J'avais l'impression de créer des murs encore plus épais que d'habitude autour de moi quand je lisais pour m'enfermer dans l'intrigue si exceptionnelle de 18 Lunes.
Car oui, ici l'intrigue nous étreint sans peine pour nous rendre accro au livre. Pourquoi ? C'est très simple... J'étais déjà fan de la saga après avoir lu 17 Lunes. Je ne pouvais plus attendre pour en lire la suite. J'avais peur qu'en en attendant trop de 18 Lunes, je risquerais d'être déçu. Hé bien en fait, c'est le contraire qui s'est produit. Quel bonheur de lire ce roman. On retrouve Ethan et Lena après les terribles épreuves qu'ils ont traversé suite à l'Appel de celle-ci pendant sa Dix-Septième Lune, et ils sont toujours aussi fous amoureux l'un de l'autre. Sauf qu'après un temps d'accalmie, les choses à Gatlin - comme dans la vie d'Ethan - ont pris une très mauvaise tournure.
En effet, il semblerait que l'Apocalypse soit en train de frapper de plein fouet la petite bourgade tranquille. Entre vagues de chaleur intense, l'apparition d'une infinité de criquets, sécheresses, et le fait que certains Enchanteurs commencent à perdre leurs pouvoirs, aucun de ces signes ne permet de prévoir un avenir certain pour le couple... Et les innocents qui vivent dans le village. Mais qu'est-ce qui cause ces mystérieux changements ? Qui, ou quoi, est à l'origine de tant de bouleversements ? C'est ce que vont tenter de découvrir nos deux personnages principaux, entourés d'Amma, de Macon et de leurs amis.
Mais ce n'est pas tout ! Quelques changements se sont aussi opérés sur deux personnes : Ridley et Link. Haaa ces deux-là, qu'ils m'ont fait rêver ! Entre Link qui est devenu un Incube et Ridley qui a perdu ses pouvoirs de Sirène, ils forment au début du livre un vrai petit couple. Puis quelle joie de les retrouver ! Surtout Link. Il m'aura fait sourire tout le long de ma lecture. Entre la découverte de ses pouvoirs, sa nouvelle popularité auprès des filles et son amour touchant pour Ridley, Link prend de l'épaisseur et devient un personnage touchant et émouvant.
Il en va de même pour Ethan et Lena... Halala, je venais à peine de les découvrir que j'étais déjà emporté dans l'histoire. Ils forment un couple magnifique, attachant et attendrissant. Leur passion transpire presque du livre. A eux deux, ils m'ont fasciné de par leur amour et par la complicité qui les unit. Je ne sais même plus combien de fois j'ai frissonné en lisant les passages dans lesquels ils étaient seuls. A vivre leur idylle, à s'aimer en paix. Jusqu'à ce que tout se corse. Jusqu'à ce que frappe le chaos.
Je dois préciser que le titre VO, Beautiful Chaos, colle parfaitement à 18 Lunes. Nous sommes submergés par le désordre le plus total. Tout a été chamboulé par l'Appel de Lena et ses pouvoirs. L'Ordre des Choses va devoir être revu totalement. Et tant que cela n'aura pas été fait, c'est le chaos et la destruction que tout le monde devra affronter. Lena et Ethan vont donc devoir se battre pour leur survie. Ils vont devoir affronter les choix qu'ils ont fait. Assumer les conséquences de ces derniers. Et comprendre quels sont leurs rôles au sein de cette catastrophe.
18 Lunes est donc un roman qui va tout remettre en question, mais c'est également un ouvrage qui nous permet de remonter le temps et d'en apprendre plus sur des protagonistes encore peu exploités. C'est ainsi que le passé de Sarafine, la mère de Lena, va nous être révélé. Il s'avère qu'avant de devenir Ténèbres, elle était une femme aimante et pleine de Lumière. Enfin, je vais vous laisser découvrir tout ça par vous même, ça vaut le coup.
C'est donc dans ce monde palpitant et à couper le souffle que nous traversons le coeur d'une intrigue frappante et marquante. J'ai complètement fondu pour 18 Lunes... J'adore son univers, les impressions qui sortent du livre, la foultitude de sentiments que tous les héros nous permettent de recevoir. Mais tout cela ne représente qu'une petite partie des sensations que j'ai ressenti face à ce que j'ai éprouvé pendant ma lecture des dernières pages. Là, j'ai réussi avoir les larmes aux yeux et le coeur serré voire même brisé.
Oui, la fin de 18 Lunes est aussi captivante que son contenu : elle provoque le chaos en nous. Je ne me rappelle même plus de ce que l'on m'a dit pendant que j'arrivais au terme de ma lecture. Et je suis sûr que j'ai répondu, en plus... Mais... Comment vous dire... Comment retranscrire les explosions d'angoisse et de fascination qui ont pris possession de mon estomac et de ma gorge face aux ultimes pages ? Je peux juste vous dire que la fin m'a tué. J'en soupire encore... Comment est-ce possible ? Et surtout, comment vais-je faire pour attendre la suite ? Je pense que c'est officiel, patienter pour 19 Lunes va être de la torture pour ma petite personne.
Je pense ne plus rien avoir à ajouter. 18 Lunes, c'est un livre magique, prenant, passionnant et renversant. Que ce soit ses héros, son atmosphère, son histoire ou son chaos le plus total, tout n'est que pur plaisir à découvrir. Puis la fin... Argh, je n'ai pas de mot pour la décrire. Et cette romance entre Ethan et Lena... J'en ai la chair de poule. Bref, j'arrête d'épiloguer. Achetez-vous ce livre. Un point c'est tout.(less)

I gotta warn ya.... Your going to cry a lot when you read the last about 120 pages of this book. Right now, writing this, I'm still crying... I cried harder and harder as I passed each page. I expect another book to the series.. If not... I'm forming a mob and attacking Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl.. But then they wouldn't be able to write... So, yeah I'll think about later.

The 3rd (4th if you count the short story) book in the Beautiful Creatures series from Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl made me kind of love Ethan Wate just a little more. Do guys like this really exist and if so where can I find one?

Me ha gustado la trama principal porque sigue siendo entretenida y el mundo está muy bien elaborado pero Hermoso caos me ha dejado con la sensación de que no son necesarios tantos libros en la saga o, por lo menos, no es necesario que cada uno cuente con unas 500 páginas. Hay escenas perfectamente eliminables y la historia no sufriría en absoluto. Es más, creo que se haría mucho más ameno e interesante.

Algo que sí me sigue fascinando es la maravillosa ambientación que las autoras recrean en cada libro: podemos sentir con intensidad ese peculiar entorno sureño que parecen conocer tan bien. Sus descripciones dibujan imágenes perfectamente nítidas y transmiten sensaciones muy vivas que nos envuelven los sentidos. También me siguen enamorando muchos de los personajes, son como una gran familia con la que has vivido de todo y a los que quieres seguir conociendo poco a poco. También me ha atrapado la tremenda evolución que sufren los personajes, sobre todo los principales. Son personajes muy humanos y reales de los que me he llegado a encariñar muchísimo. Este es, de hecho, un aspecto vital de la saga que hace que me sigan atrayendo.

Por el desarrollo argumental de la novela, me ha dado la sensación de que es la introducción, la preparación, para el último libro: Hermoso final. Nos encontramos continuamente en una situación de «está a punto de pasar algo muy importante y decisivo» pero, finalmente nunca llega a suceder y ¡las autoras nos dejan con la miel en los labios con ese final! Me ha merecido la pena solo por la emoción y el impacto que me ha causado. Así que estoy deseando comenzar el cuarto ejemplar para, por fin, conocer el desenlace de las Crónicas Caster.(less)

I read this book right after book 2 of the Caster Chronicles because I was really enjoying the story and wanted to see what happened next, but I was a bit disappointed. I thought the story line was very slow and drawn out and it had a very different tone to the first two books.

In the third installment of the Beautiful Creatures trilogy, Beautiful Chaos delves into the history behind Serafine and the search for the mysterious John Breed. After her claiming, Lena's decision created a major problem where both the Caster and Mortal world are slowly falling apart; in other words, the delicate balance between Casters and Mortals has shifted where the Gatlin has turned into Moses' Egypt when Pharoh refused to let the Hebrews free. For the Caster world, their powers have be altered as if they are slowly losing their abilities to channel them properly. Although Lena chose to be both light and dark, this choice has caused a huge riff that even Abraham Ravenwood cannot fix unless he finds John Breed. The plot is literally filled with quite a few surprises that will not only add to the complexity of the story, but shed light an specific characters who have been severely misunderstood. I was very, very curious about the life of Izabel Duchannes (aka. Serafine), which, oddly enough, is quite the opposite of what we have seen thus far. It is actually possible to say that this horrible woman was once innocent and harmless; she was a person who actually loved and wanted nothing but to be a part of the Light .As Lena continues to uncover her mother's past, readers will hope that Lena will get the answers she has been longing for her whole life. However, the idea of John Breed was very perplexing simply because he is the key that Abraham Ravenwood is after. As a mutant/hybrid Incubus, John was purposely picked by Abraham for his powers. Readers don't learn a whole lot about his birth parents, but John lived a extremely unhappy life. The worst part about it is that John has no recollection of ever kidnapping Lena or hurting others; John, in many respects, has been an unwilling puppet for Abraham. What's great about John is behind the "jerk" facade, he develops a soft spot for Liv, which shows he is more than a "freak of nature." As readers get through the series, they realize that with every sacrifice, or decision, there is always a set of consequences. When Amma and Lena resurrected Ethan, they didn't realize that he would return with only one part of his soul. When Lena chose to claim herself as both dark and light, she created the rift between two worlds. When Ethan asked to Marian and Liv to help him find Lena, he didn't know that Marian would be tried for treason. It seems that no matter how noble, or terrible, our choices may be, someone is always going to suffer. However, what we also learn, is that with time, support, and love we can always get passed these decisions and find a way to make amends. This theme is constant throughout the series, which is not only hard to swallow, but very enlightening. The final installment, Beautiful Redemption, readers may get the happy ending they are hoping for. (less)
