May I be blunt? I love Curbside Splendor. The founder, Victor David Giron is the son of Hispanic immigrants who doesn’t wallow in identity politics and actually works in the real world, as an accountant. It’s so uncool, it’s almost ironic, right?

I have almost despaired of university literary journals – I can feel the boredom of the great plains and the drudgery of academic work through every line. Where did the art of engagement go?

I'm personal friends with a number of people involved with this, so it would be an ethical conflict to try to do an "objective" review; but I did want to at least mention that I recently had a chance to read and really enjoy this, the first issue of new Chicago small press Curbside Splendor's new literary journal, to complement the full-length books they also put out.
