A fascinating read of the events in the Transvaal leading up to and during the Jamieson Raid, written by one of the participants in the events. The writer is better known as Sir Percy FitzPatrick author of the children's classic 'Jock of the Bushveld'.

Although modern historians are giving Paul Kruger a positive gloss in true revisionist fashion, his government fares very badly in contemporary accounts. This book struggles hard to be fair minded and even handed but fails to exonerate this corrupt

Sir James Percy FitzPatrick, KCMG, known as Percy FitzPatrick, was a South African author, politician, mining financier and pioneer of the fruit industry. He authored the classic children's book, Jock of the Bushveld (1907).

The Percy Fitzpatrick Institute of African Ornithology at the University of Cape Town was named in his honour.
