I really enjoyed Tantalize, so when I found out there was a graphic novel of the story through the eyes of Kieren, I borrowed it from the library.

Kieren is a young werewolf who will soon have to go and become a part of a pack. But he's in love with his best friend Quincie. When she starts acting strange and dead bodies start popping up all over the place, Kieren's determined to figure it all out. He's also determined to save Quincie, no matter what.

It was nice reading his side of the story and I...more

I grabbed this off the library shelf because it looked interesting, and I'm fond of graphic novels. Sadly, it really didn't do very much for me. Our hero is Kieren, who has one foot in the world of the weres and one foot in the world of the mortals. He is in love with his best friend, a girl named Quincie, but knows that, in traditional were way, he'll be sent away when he graduates high school to join a pack.

As the time approaches for Kieren to leave home, Quincie's uncle comes up with the bri...more

Tantalize: Kieren’s Story is the graphic novel adaptation of Smith’s young adult noire fantasy by the same name—told from the perspective of Kieren, a mixed-blood werewolf. Kieren’s senior year of high school finds him awakening to the realization that he is in love with his best friend Quincie who clearly returns his affection. Unfortunately, he is reluctant to act upon these feelings because to-date he is unable to control the beast within and thus fears harming her. Moreover, any day now, he...more

Over these past 2 years, Cynthia Leitich Smith has become one of my favorite authors. The world she has created in her main series and the characters, their interaction, dialogue and flare are incredible. I was a little leery when I heard that one of her books out in 2011 was going to be a graphic novel. I love her writing style and craft as a story teller. So I approached this book with both a little anxiety and a lot of excitement because it was her new book. I should have just trusted that he...more

This graphic novel was a long time coming. When I read TANTALIZE in 2007, my first blog post on Karin’s Book Nook, I wished there had been more about Kieren. Now, finally, we get to see his point of view.

Kieren is in love with his best friend, Quincie. Their relationship should be no problem because he knows she feels the same way about him, but Kieren is a hybrid werewolf and will need to leave to join the pack soon. He knows it will break her heart when he leaves and if they are romantically i...more

You know, I think I really enjoyed this version more than the original. Not necessarily because of the fact that it’s in graphic novel form, but because during the original book, I found myself sympathizing more with Kieren and less with Quincie. If anything, I was feeling more or less exactly like Kieren regarding Quincie in terms of “wtf, why is she suddenly going out with someone who might have been involved in a murder?” Now I don’t feel as alone in my emotional attachment in the first book....more

Okay, first of all, I loved the story still. It was cool to read it from Kieran's pov. And the cover was awesome! I was very excited to see a graphic novel set in this world.

However, it was really hard to read because of the illustrations. They were just so heavy and stiff. Facial expression and body language was impossible to read with such heavy lines. Some scenes were very difficult to understand because the drawing was poorly done or the panels did not connect well.

And I used to live in Aus...more

*I am rating this based on the art.

Since I am a manga lover, I am very picky when it comes to art. The angle, the details, the face, the body--everything should be perfect. Or close to perfect. Or bearable. Or decent.

My one and only complaint about this is the face. What the hell happened to their faces? Sure, Kieren and Quincie weren't exactly stunning or that pretty... but I didn't imagine as this.

Do I need to say more about the faces? (Oh gods, the lips. I can't even--) Seriously, that cover...more

This was an interesting read. I haven’t read the book series that this graphic novel is based on but it was interesting. I might read the books now. I though that the art was really cool. The cover is GORGEOUS. I love the hair in the background, it makes Kieren look like he has wings.
Anyways, the novel is about a guy that is a werewolf and about how he tries to figure out what is happening to his town because people are disappearing all over the place. And because he knows some of the victims, h...more

First off, I loved the actual book it is still my favorite by this author. I have to say that the story being told from Kierens point of view really helped out on some of the questions that were left unsaid from the original book. This is a great addition to an already great story.

The only draw back that I could see with this book was the graphics. These graphics could have been a lot better than what they were. The facial features on the characters were just not that good. The storyline to me...more

Modern vampire books make me wish Buffy was still on the air. Cynthia Leitich Smith enters the graphic novel realm by illustrating the story of one of her lead characters from a teen book series. The werewolf hybrid Kieren is torn between leaving home to meet his new pack, and a convoluted murder mystery surrounding the local Italian restaurant. Add in were-creatures such as armadillos and vultures, scheming principal-vampires, and a fighting mad English teacher, and you end up with this pot of...more

If you're a fan of the Tantalize series then this is a pretty interesting take on Kieren's side. If you're wanting a taste of what the series Tantalize is about this book also is good as a beginning look into Quinice's world. It can be read as a stand-a-lone or just a review of the first book. A great look at why Kieren's so very protective of Quinice and how to untangle him...more

Tantalize: Kieren's Story, is a graphic novel. The illustrations in this novel were nicely done. I have to say I liked reading the story from Kieren's POV, it gave me more insight to Kieren's desire for Quincie, and him handling his werewolf thing. The characters and story plot was strong, and with it being in comic book format, made it a fun read. I would recommend this for middle grade to teenagers, or to anyone who loves comic books. Tantalize: Kieren's Story is a fun read. I enjoyed it.

Eh. I'm not really a big fan of all the young adult books coming out with graphic novels that go along with the books. The only ones I'm excited for are shiver(hopefully) and hush hush. I read this one because I LOVE the book, I liked how it was kierens version. The only thing I didn't like was that it was short, and I didn't really picture him looking like that :/ I thought he would be hotter....I'd recommend this to anyone who loves the book tantalize and any werewolf fan :) vampires too :D

As a hybrid werewolf, Kieren is destined to join an urban Wolf pack and learn to master his shift. Soon, he’ll leave everything behind: home, school, his family, and Quincie, his human best friend . . . who’s beginning to be a whole lot more than a friend. For years, Kieren has managed to keep his desires— and his wolf— at bay. But when the chef at Quincie’ s family restaurant is brutally murdered, Kieren resolves to be there for her, even if it means being framed. Even if it means watching Quin...more

I read this graphic novel on my Kindle from Netgalley. I am always excited to read Cynthia Leitich Smith's stories! Being a Texas author, I LOVE that she uses Austin and Texas in general as her backdrop. I enjoyed Kieren's companion story to Tantalize, but it did not load properly on my Kindle, so there was a lot of confusion. In many places the pictures and words were mixed up. I hope when the final copy comes out, all of that will be fixed. I do recommend

Figuring since this was 'Kieran's Story' this would be a little more revealing, but it really wasn't. And where with the novel it seemed slightly tongue in cheek this one was just trying to be serious and failing miserably. The art was okay at best. The cover artwork was done by Sam Weber and he should have done the artwork for the whole book because newcomer Ming Doyle was just not my cup of tea.
Christina
I enjoyed the story, getting to know kieren's side of events, but I thought the art was horrible. very pedestrian black and white line drawings, with lousy renditions of hands and faces. sorry but it looked like it was still in the rough draft stage to me. I would only recommend this to a diehard fan of the tantalize series, with apologies.

Ah! So I totally loved this!!! I loved Kieren from the first pages of Tantalize the novel. I was so happy when I found out Cynthia Leitich Smith was doing a take of Kieren's story. The sexy werewolf side as he watches Quincy's life spiral out of control from the side lines.

I don't have too much to say about it other than I was really pleased they made the story and that I loved reading about how much Kieren loved Quincy even though he couldn't be around her often for her safety he was always loo...more

I'm normally not a big fan of graphic novels, but I felt that I couldn't actually complete this series untill I read this one. I enjoyed seeing the story from Kieren's eyes, but I actually prefered Quincie's version. I felt like a lot of stuff was left out of his version.
Arianna
I really wasn't into the comic becuase of the drawings. They just dind't look right and I didn't think they fit the characters.
Christina
2.5 stars. This is Kieran's POV of events we already know, but it didn't actually add anything to the story ?!?
Ginny
I enjoyed reading the story from Kieren's point of view. It was interesting. And the book ended differently than I remember it ending.

YUM!
I think I like the original characters from the print book more now. Who would of thunk it?
Susan
Story was good but the graphics were absoluetly awful!
Abby Turner
I did not like the illustrations.
Manintheboat
Very poorly written. Pathetic story.
Carrie Shaurette
The dialogue is cheesy and the illustrations are lifeless in this graphic adaptation of a werewolf vs. vampire story with nothing new to offer.
