Climb every mountain, Ford every stream,
Follow every rainbow, 'Til you find your dream.

Ok. So perhaps they weren't following a rainbow, but it sure felt as if they were climbing every mountain and fording every stream to find their dream - even though their dream was right beside them. Anyway, this is the second book in The Cynster Sisters Trilogy that I, for some reason, thought might be an improvement to the never-ending series of books about Cynster males and their compatriots. Yes, I...more

IN PURSUIT OF ELIZA CYNSTER by Stephanie Laurens is an exciting historical romance set in Regency England. This is Book 2 in the “Cynster Sisters” trilogy, but can be read as a stand alone. See “Viscount Breckenbridge To The Rescue”. Although, “In Pursuit of ELiza Cynster” does have it slow moments,it is does have an interesting cast of characters. Eliza being a Cynster is unable to seat a horse,oh well,we all can’t be perfect and we all have our faults. I think this story of Eliza Cynster and Je...more

This is book 2 of the Cynster Sisters series and according to the Cynster family tree in the front of the book, it's book 17 of the Cynster novels.

Eliza's story is the first Cynster book I have read. Even though the book mentions siblings and cousins whose stories are told in other books, it wasn't necessary to have read those stories to read Eliza's book. ( It would have helped know those characters and added some backstory but like I said, not absolutely necessary.)

Eliza is the quiet Cynster...more

I thought that after having enjoyed the first book in the trilogy, I would have liked this one. I was very disappointted. Don't get me wrong, I think the characters were great, I just don't think Ms. Laurens did these two justice. Our heroine is Eliza Cynster...of the sisters, she is the most typical society miss. Never a step out of line, quiet, smart but easy going. She also would love to find that elusive hero to take her away. At a ball given by her family, an unknown man sends a note and sh...more

IN PURSUIT OF ELIZA CYNSTER by Stephanie Laurens

In Pursuit of Eliza Cynster is the second book in Stephanie Laurens’ Cynster Sisters trilogy and the 17th novel in the Cynster series of books. Like the previous Cynster sister book, In Pursuit focuses on the abduction, rescue and eventual HEA of a Cynster female. Including an adventure through two countries and countless little towns and villages, In Pursuit of Eliza Cynster will leave you breathless and longing for a glass of wine and the comfort...more

“She might be the quiet one: that didn’t mean she was meek.”

The mysterious laird who had Heather Cynster kidnapped, in Viscount Breckenridge to the Rescue, has managed the unthinkable; he hired professionals who have successfully kidnapped another Cynster sister.

Eliza Cynster is the middle daughter of Lord Martin and Lady Cecilia Cynster. She is typically considered “the quiet one”. So much so, she even believes it herself most of th...more
Shh I'm reading!
I really used to like the Cynster series, but have felt like all of her characters are the same. Alpha male, rescues headstrong damsel in distress. He can't admit his love, so damsel takes a stand to force alpha to admit his love. This book definitely had elements of that, but the hero and the heroine were practical and had a quiet love I could definitely get behind. There are 2 big issues that make this book only OK. One, was that the villainous chase was reminiscent of the Black Cobra Quartet,...more

What a fun book. I always like Stephanie Laurens' books and this was no exception. Her heroines are always wonderfully strong and not afraid to go after what they want. When Eliza is kidnapped, the bad guys drug her for several days to ensure she doesn't cause trouble. When they stop, she is several days away from home. She takes the only opportunity she has to try to get help - screaming at a passing traveler. Jeremy is headed in the other direction and has passed before he recognizes Eliza. He...more

I was torn between a 2 and a 3 rating. This book, as is true of all of Laurens' later books, has way too much introspection. Too many characters filling too much of the book's pages rhapsodizing about their thoughts. I have the same complaints with later Robert B Parker books; I'd like more demonstration of what a character is thinking by actions, with sparse descriptions of thoughts, rather than continuous soliloquies. I also felt she kept bludgeoning a dead horse about some of the facts of thi...more

IN PURSUIT OF ELIZA CYNSTER by Stephanie Laurens
Book #2 in the Cynster Sisters Series (Three heroes, three rescues, three weddings)
09/11 - HarperCollins Publishers – HARPERCOLLINS, 448 pages

If no one sees who I am, how will my hero find me?

When you are a Cynster sister, you are expected to find your true love, know how to ride a horse, and have the potential to be kidnapped. None of the sisters have any understanding of why someone wants to kidnap them but Miss Eliza Cynster it turns out is numb...more

Good, well-plotted and well-written. Strong, clear characterisation. Credible dialogue. Recognisable Laurens.

However, the book suffered from the constraints of being one of a trilogy. The over-arching plot dictates too much of each individual book, so that there is a sameness with the first in the trilogy, Viscount Breckenridge to the Rescue, which is unavoidable but annoying. I found myself identifying the ways in which Laurens managed to overcome the constraints which she had created for herse...more

This story is a refreshing change because neither the hero nor the heroine are the typical alpha personalities in conflict as you usually see in this genre and in Laurens other novels. Eliza and Jeremy are both on the rational and more sedate personalities than their counterparts. The story was no less engaging. I remember Jeremy from the novel in the Bastion Club series, The Lady Chosen. Both characters while not exactly adventurous or particularly athletic, they are smart enough to figure out...more

I enjoyed this novel very much. I thought it was a nice change of pace for Ms. Laurens to write about a couple that were, essentially, a quiet couple, a thoughtful couple, that found strength within themselves they didn't really know they possessed. The blossoming relationship between the h&h was sweet. And I truly loved that they both knew what they felt for the other and didn't try for chapters to deny it or "couldn't risk their heart" as so many couples proclaim in other books. Now, as wi...more

So much of this book was wildly improbable, but somehow this didn't bother me, because I was having so much fun with it. It was a tremendous adventure, with kidnapping, rescue, running, escaping, and long, lonely nights in hiding.

I loved the two main characters and their journeys (physical and personal).

Eliza was a somewhat reserved young lady, and the only way in which she doesn't appear to be the paragon of what a young woman in society should be is her failure to be married at age 24. She's...more

I just finished the book today. I have said it before, but I love reading books about characters in a family, like the Cynsters. I have read most of their stories.

This time, it's the next generation that's in trouble. Eliza Cynster is kidnapped from her sister's engagement ball! The story is told from Eliza's point of view and later, Jeremy's point of view, too.

She has been kidnapped, drugged and is traveling in a carriage, somewhere in England. In one moment of lighter drug influence, she reac...more

A mysterious Scottish laird is on the hunt for a Cynster sister to become his wife. He doesn't really want to do it; His mother is forcing him through blackmail. His first attempt to secure Cynster wife failed when Heather Cynster got away from the kidnappers he hired (in Viscount Breckenridge to the Rescue.) Now, he is hoping for better luck by hiring a new man to snatch her younger sister Eliza.

But shortly after the kidnappers take to the road with their quarry in hand, Eliza manages to gain t...more

A beta couple story.
http://anotherlookbookreviews.blogspo...

Fan of beta heroes? Then In Pursuit of Eliza Cynster is for you. I certainly do not intend for that comment to be a bad thing at all. There are times where is it just nice to read about a hero that is smart and well, just a man. No bulging muscles or alpha attitude. I liked it.

Comparing book 1, Viscount Breckenridge to the Rescue against In Pursuit of Eliza Cynster is fairly easy for me. I liked the romance in book 1 more but I really...more

Really liked a lot of this book...until the last quarter of the novel or so. Once the danger had passed, the hero and heroine's internal "I-love-him-but-he-needs-to-realize-he-loves-me-first" and "I-love-her-but-don't-want-to-tell-her-until-I-can-figure-out-if-she-loves-me-first-oh-how-can-I-possibly-do-this" struggles (gosh, I don't know--ASK HER???) just seemed to draw the whole thing out unnecessarily. It almost felt as if there were a word or page count Laurens had to reach before she could...more

What made me chuckle a bit:

She can't ride, and she actually likes doing the "ladylike" things so many of these heroines begrudge.

He's not a "foremost rake of the ton," but a scholarly type. (But, oh, we do have to point out he's had his conquests.)

And they actually put a focus on "seeing what's between them" without constantly doing the bed wrestle.

This was the book where I actually read the "antagonist's" sections and realized he...wasn't. Not really. I realized, maybe I wouldn't feel so dumb a...more

Yes, it's a bit wordy but I like wordy. I'd rather have wordy than spend $8 and get a 30,000 word novella. At least when I pay $8 for a Stephanie Laurens novel, I get a complete book. In the Amazon Kindle world, that's actually refreshing. Probably the plot could have been shortened by condensing the opening scenes before he rescues her and some of the later escape. Editors should have picked up on the repetition of consulting the map, but it seems like something I'd keep in my hands, too.

I love Stephanie Laurens and have read all of the Cynster books over the years. This book is the 2nd in a series of three. So far, I found both book 1 & book 2 to be excessively repetative. I think she could have done a better job expanding the story line rather then telling us the same thing over-and-over. Because I like the idea of a good man (a Scottish Laird at that) forced to make hard choices, I plan to read the final book when it is published. I just want to see what his story is all...more

Once again a "Cynster Sister" is kidnapped. This time it is Eliza. Unluckily for her, she is drugged almost the entire time she is escorted to Scotland to the mysterious Laird behind the plot. Luckily for her, during one of her few lucid moments she manages to get the attention of an acquaintance - Jeremy Carling, a renown scholar. Realizing that something is terribly wrong, Jeremy pursues Eliza and her captors and together with two friends concoct a plan to steal Eliza back. What begins as a si...more

I wish I could give this one three and a half stars. Better than "Viscount Breckenridge to the Rescue," this book still doesn't quite measure up to the rest of the Cynster novels.
Eliza is at her sister's engagement party when a mysterious note sends her off to meet an unknown man... and she's kidnapped, just like Heather. Luckily, she is able to attract the attention of a passerby. Unluckily, (at least in her eyes), the man who is passing by is Jeremy Carling (last seen in the Bastion Club serie...more

The 17th Cynster Novel

Who is behind the kidnapping?

Brazenly kidnapped from her sister Heather's engagement ball, Eliza Cynster is spirited north to Edinburgh. Desperate and determined to escape, she seizes upon the first possible champion who happens along - gentleman scholar Jeremy Carling.

Villains and rescues are a far cry from Jeremy's expertise, yet he cannot abandon a damsel in distress. But danger lurks and hurdles abound in their race to esc...more

Picked up from the box of strips at work....and now I'm working my way through the series starting with #1!

This one is #2 is a trilogy arc with three of the Cynster girls. Even without previous knowledge of the series the overarching mystery (who is bent on kidnapping these sisters and how will he get caught?) reads very well. The chase through the lowlands of Scotland in the final few chapters is riveting. Laurens does handle the "introduction" of the family well - by staying with the character...more
