Having never read this author before, I was not sure what to expect but the word "Cornwall" grabbed my attention right away. For some reason, I love stories set there even though I've never seen it. The location conjures up vivid images of rocky cliffs, pounding waves, shipwrecks and smugglers. Heady stuff!
What I found was a most delightfully witty story with a tremendous amount of atmosphere, a fun adventurous mystery and fantastic characters. Penny and Jeremy have More...

It does seem a bit odd to classify a book both as "chick lit" and "mystery," but that's exactly what this cozy little series manages to accomplish. Penny Nichols (yes, really) and her husband, Jeremy Laidley, return from their honeymoon to greeted by a royal command: HRH Prince Charles insists they investigate the real estate shenanigans surrounding a historic village in Cornwall. And since that just happens to be where Penny's late grandmother lived, how can she say no?

Belmond's "Rather" series is just good fun - it's light, fluffy, charming escapism. Is it really common for anyone to have a vast inheritance flung in their lap including gorgeous vintage cars & amazingly beautiful homes in suitably exotic European locales? Not really, but it's damned fun to read about & imagine. The antiques & local history certainly doesn't hurt either, as far as I'm concerned. Penny Nichols is such an unassumingly likable girl-next-door that you can't help but be ha

I'd like to give it 3 1/2 stars, but didn't feel quite like rounding up to 4. I'm in a stingy mood, I guess. This is a fun romp in Cornwall with an irresistibly charming heroine. The danger never feels particularly threatening, the suspense has little tension, and as for romance, well the protagonist is already married, but that's OK for this light cozy version of romantic suspense.

Another delightful little detective romp around Europe. Penny and Jeremy are back from their honeymoon to discover that another "case" has been sent their way by Prince Charles. They are off to Cornwall to try and save their grandmother's house (no longer in the family) from destruction to make way for an uber-resort. Quick, fun read.

This is another solid addition to the 'Rather' series by C. A. Belmond. I've enjoyed them all and this is just a continuation of characters I love, living a life that I would love to love.

Another charming book in the C.A. Belmond series. I enjoyed this one, though I thought the royal touch was a little cheesy and unecessary. Still, it was a cute, fun read, and I look forawrd to the next in the series...especially now that they have Sir Francis :-)

I was really into this series, but by the fourth book everything just seemed a little too predictable. I love the characters. But the plot seems to be the same over and over again. It took me a bit longer to get through this one; whereas I couldn't seem to put the first three down. Overall, I like the series, but this one was a bit too slow and repetitive for me.

This has become one of my favorite series, and even though I didn't like this one as well as the first, I found it a relaxing, engaging read with characters for whom I've developed an affection.

Great adventure story! Loved it! Such a beautiful series! Very much enjoyed the ending, particularly the queen's gift. Can't wait for the next one!
