Never having enjoyed 'Survivor'-type reality TV, I was surprised to find that I really liked this little story about two rival (and antagonistic) contestants paired up on ~~Survivor~~"Endurance Island". The book is written from heroine Abby's POV, although we are treated to brief glimpses of Dean's perspective from his personal diary at the beginning of most chapters.

This was so much fun to read!!! A light (but still very captivating) story that is extremely relevant to what is currently happening with reality tv. It seemed like it was pulled straight from Survivor, or quite frankly any of the crazy shows that are so popular with the tv-watching public, minus all the extremely annoying characters and pesky commercials. ;)

OMG! look at the cover - this book is NOTHING what I thought it would be. I was thinking a hot romance with nothing but sex on their mind - Not even close!

This book is about a game - if you remember the old reality tv show, survives - it's basically that same game - And the challenges are just as good in the book as they were on the show :)

This was a great fun and exciting read that had me hooked from the very beginning. I loved everything about this book, especially Dean ;) Can I just say yum! Abby was a great character. She was strong, independent and had a quick fire attitude that I loved. I loved that the story was told in first person from her POV as you were able to really get in to her head and see how she really felt about the whole situation.

Okay, I admittedly picked this up because the title reminded me of a certain fic. I went in expecting it to be your usual "boy likes girl, girl is conflicted on boy, boy forces girl to like him (in the skeeviest way possible)" type of romance novel. I was pleasantly surprised when it was otherwise with actual, honest to god, consensual sex.

That shouldn't be a big deal. Unfortunately, it is.

I was pleasantly surprised when it was otherwise with actual, honest to god, consensual sex.

That shouldn't be a big deal. Unfortunately, it is.

The book was rather cliche: boy and girl are jerks to each other at first, but then fall for one another; after they are together, a misunderstanding causes one (or both) to doubt the intentions/commitment/etc of the other, they separate...but eventually reunite at the end in a Happy Ever After ending. Still, despite the formulaic plot, it wasn't bad. I actually liked Dean. I think this is a first, me liking the male love interest.

Also a first (and a plus): they had fun with sexytimes. It wasn't all "it was wild and savage and he had his way with me." Instead, they're giggling and making jokes and have a sense of humor about the whole thing, and it's actually kind of great.

Honestly, I'd rather rate it a 3.5, because the cliche plot (I especially took issue to Abby suddenly losing all confidence/doubting Dean after she got voted off the island), but since that's not possible, I'll give it the full 4 stars, since the non-creepy love interest/non-creepy sex heavily outweigh cliche.

Best fluffy romance novel I've ever read (with Taken being the best sexy one).

Oh, remembered from seeing something in another review: I would like an actual in-story explanation for why Dean goes from Captain Jerkface on day one to basically being a sweet guy later on. (Later Dean is good. Early Dean bad). I presume the metatexutal reason is that he had to be a jerkface so Abby would put up resistance to him (so she could then stand up to him, so he could then see that independent/strong side of her, and thus fall for her), as well as so the plot isn't too obvious or without tension.

Still not worth changing my story rating over though, because New!Dean gets all the points. All of them.(less)

This book actually pleasantly surprised me.

I'm not a fan of "Survivor" type shows or premises but I downloaded it based on a couple good reviews.

This book is full of awesome, chocked full of win and odearheavens HOT.

Abby Lewis works for a entertainment style magazine that basically forces her to go on this reality show and report back to them what's its like.

My first introduction to Myles' writing was in the novella of the compilation for Wild & Steamy. From that short piece, she had me hooked, and I went and found everything else she'd written.

That's not to say there weren't things that won't bother others, but I was too easily distracted by the fun, easy storyline to pay them much attention. Was it perfect? Well, no, but I still can't bring myself to give this any less than 5 stars because I enjoyed myself the entire time. This book will be going on my favorites shelf, for sure.

In the book, Abby is given little choice but to go on a Survivor style show, last minute. Her boss makes sure of that (I'll make your life hell at work, or you can go to a tropical island and suck it up, sort of thing). When we meet Dean, he's a complete asshole. Honestly, I wasn't sure how Jill was going to win me over with him, but suddenly I liked him. It felt like a natural progression, which I really appreciated. We moved along with Abby (told in 1st person POV) as she moved from loathing him, to being able to stand him, to being attracted to him, to genuinely liking him. The small glimpses we got at the beginning of the chapters from Dean were well used, as well, and helped shed light on what he was thinking, even when Abby didn't know.

The sex was hot, erotic but not distasteful. I'd say somewhere up a notch on the hot scale from Jill Shalvis' very light sex, but it was welcome, lemme tell ya. ;)

The conflict and arc in this was well done. It left that anxious feeling in my tummy that tells me the author is doing their job right. The ending, though I thought it was a bit rushed, and would have loved more of an "epilogue", was well done.

Myles' writing style was refreshing and funny. A light, easy read that was welcome after the rut I've been in.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to devour every other book she's ever written.(less)

I really enjoyed Jill Myles Succubus Diary series, so when i saw this as a free ebook I added it to my Kindle library. I started it awhile back but didn't finish it. Last week I started it again and read it in just a few sittings. It is the first book I finished reading on my Kindle Fire. WICKED GAMES is a romance novel spin on the show SURVIVOR. I flip-flopped between giving this a three and four star rating. It's well-written with engaging characters and fun to read, which nudges it towards four-star territory. I ended up going with three stars, however, because after I finished the book a few major aspects of the romance still didn't make sense to me.

My biggest issue had to do with the evolution of Dean's feelings. The only insight we get into his point of view comes from excerpts of the video diaries he does for the show which are inserted into the beginning of every chapter. The first impression we get of him, as readers, is that he's kind of a douche. He announces that he plans to flirt and romance his way to winning the show, and he has a major attitude problem. But, within the space of a day or two, his interviews suggest that he's responding to Abby in this really sincere, up-front way, no pretenses, no games. He turns out to be the exact opposite of the guy he presents himself as, and I wanted to know how that happened. How does this player turn into a knight in shining armor while on a TV show that tends to bring out the worst in people?

The other thing is that, considering who Dean turns out to actually be - a big sweetie, not too complicated - I didn't buy the relationship anymore. Abby's kind of a curmudgeon. I feel like she'd just rain on Dean's happy uncomplicated parade and, after a while, he'd get tired of it. I wished the book had shown us how they get along in the day to day, at least a little, in order to give me some reason to think they'd last as a couple.

My other issue with the book had to do with the in-game strategizing. Now, I don't watch Survivor but Abby's entire strategy seems to be, "let someone else worry about keeping me in the game," and even I can tell that's a horrible, horrible strategy. I know that Abby's not in it to win it, but there are a bunch of occasions where it's really clear - even to me, a non-Survivor watcher - that there's some double-dealing going on, and it would be in her best interests to investigate. As a result, she struck me as being gullible.

So I have some quibbles and I think, in the end, I have to rank down any romance where I suspect the couple will break up soon after the story ends, but I do recommend this to anyone who's interested. It's a good, fun read.

Only once she gets in, she’s paired with rock-hard Dean who has a distinct charm that drives her crazy. With Abby’s spitfire ways and Dean’s unwavering determination, the two were bound to have sparks fly.

My initial attraction to the book had mainly to do with its lack of cost. The cover is really nothing special for this genre, but at least it was well-pieced together.

Okay, so I’ll be honest, this isn’t the kind of book I thought I would like, but then I’m not a NASCAR fan, and I’ve been known to find one or two of those type of books sweet as well. I think it might be Abby’s attitude that really sells this central plot with the game show. She’s not thrilled go into the game, and it is something that really resonated with me. As the story flowed on, it was obvious the author knew where they were going and how they were going to get there. I was given a clear path, and it was refreshing to see they hadn’t deviated from this path as some authors do with forced problems. Sometimes less is more. And sometimes more is less daunting.

As I’ve said, Abby is a great character and I felt fully connected to her. Despite the rough start, Dean is endearing to the reader almost from the very start. He’s charming, funny and knows just how to best piss off Abby. He’s also got this great boy-next-door quality. Other characters are handled well. Despite it being a game, the duo are able to make friends and that helps to break up the tension or heat of the story. This enhances the overall intensity of those elements.

Perhaps the thing that really made this story sing was the nice ending. Everything was neatly tied up in a little bow, and I was left feeling true contentment.

Rating: 4 Stars

I may have been lucky enough to get this for free, but it’s a gem regardless of that. Solid plot, likeable characters and sex appeal to go around. All I needed to really enjoy this more was a piña colada with a little paper umbrella.

I had mixed emotions starting this book. Jane from Dear Author recommended this book on Twitter and the <140 character plot summary, and free price on my Nook, sounded like something I'd like. Despite that, this book had two things going against it for me: I've never gotten into reality TV, and I don't like first person narrative. When I finished this book, I felt it was a solid 4. But then it stuck with me for days afterwards, bumping it to at least a 4.5 - almost a 5. I started and finished this book in one day, and I woke up the next morning feeling like I had just watched a Survivor marathon, which I found to be quite a fun reaction. Mostly because I felt like I had just watched reality TV all day and DIDN'T regret it! I wanted to go on the show, too, and meet my Dean! Additionally, this book was very light and didn't spiral into the realm of angst it could have - I'm generally not a huge fan of really angsty characters and plotlines (I take angst in small doses). Not that I feel like I need to justify the troupes I like and dislike in romances, but life is angsty enough and I read to escape - this book was just the light story I needed! All conflicts were resolved surprisingly easily, though perhaps the only thing that's keeping this from a 5 star score for me was that the hero and heroine reconciled and understood a bit too easily. Oddly enough, had the story turned angsty at the end with more conflict between character, I would have given it a lower rating. Yeah, I don't understand it either.

All in all, this was a delightful, quick, fun read! And I've been thinking about it since. I've been in a 3-star rut lately with books, and Wicked Games was a cool breath of fresh air! It comes highly recommended by me.(less)

Dean, also known as 'Adonis', has no qualms over being a jerk from the start and will use his looks and athleticism to his complete advantage, especially on the ladies. However, Abby is on to him and while she reluctantly has to work with him, it soon becomes hard to concentrate on the game when emotions become entangled. Marooned on a beautiful island with the hottest guy she's ever seen and competition as fierce as sharks, it doesn't take long for Abby to feel out of her element. Amidst the others she feels awkward and abundantly insecure in the looks department, but it's her wit, intelligence, and perseverance that makes her an incredibly likeable character and the perfect partner for Dean. But how far will that take her in the competition?

The story is told from Abby's perspective and although we get a clue of insight into Dean's thoughts at the beginning of each chapter I still wanted more. We are teased with his thoughts and I found myself awaiting each new chapter just to get another glimpse from him. From the onset it was easy to dislike Dean, but infinitely harder to stay that way as the story unfolds. The focus is firmly on Dean and Abby for the first few weeks of competition and their character and relationship growth. Much more intimate that way and erotically sensual when events took a heated turn.

While I might feel a little short changed by the ending, the rest of the story is fluid and paced to get to the important points. I loved the mix of the game-show familiar with the island romance of two people who would never have met otherwise and I definitely wouldn't mind a reunion special on these two. Romance readers looking for a little island getaway action under the pretense of a survival competition, should check out this story.

Wasn't expecting to enjoy it as I did. The story takes place in a Survivor kind of reality show and, although I'm not a big fan of it, I did like how the characters were playing, trying to make alliances and playing with what others were expecting from them. The romance part was a bit cheesy, I preferred when they hated each other, even if the some scenes were steamy.

Epic failing on my part aside, clearly, I've been missing out because she definitely knows how to deliver sexy sizzle with an entertaining story to boot!

After being unceremoniously dropped into the ocean and trampled on by the other contestants desperate to win a prize, Abby realizes this might not be so much fun. She gets paired up with Dean, a very attractive, athletic man. They pretty much hate each other from the start, but they must learn to work together to find food, water, and win competitions so they don’t get voted off the island and they have a chance to win two million dollars.

I really enjoyed Wicked Games. Told in the point of view of Abby, there are some very amusing moments when Abby is first dropped off at the island. Abby isn’t as pretty or as athletic as many of the other women, so she isn’t picked until last – and the uber sexy Dean is stuck with her. She is physically a bit more awkward than the other contestants but she has a good mind, something Dean learns quick. But at first they don’t get along and their first challenge together becomes very humorous.

Abby comes across as smart, and even though it wasn’t her idea to do the show, she does dive into it with the intent to win. As her and Dean spend more time together, they both start to feel an attraction. But both of them are nervous to make a first move. Plus being covered in sand, bug bites, and no shower for days doesn’t always lead to the most romantic of times. Of course they do share a blanket in a very small shelter….

Jill Myles books always have a sense of humor and some silly moments. After Abby wins a certain prize, she refuses to leave anything behind:

….my bra stuffed with pancakes and a makeshift napkin-padded baggy of cold sausage and cheeses down the front of my bikini bottom. It was kind of disgusting if you sat and thought about it, but when you were starving, you did what you had to do – and that included sneaking food back to the island in your panties.

The romance becomes hot and we get lots of island sexin’ times. I enjoyed the conflict at the end and thought it fit in really well with the book. If you like the show Survivor, you will really enjoy the setting in this one. More of a novella length, and definitely worth a read.

I’m going to start this review by saying I am a bit surprised how much I enjoyed this story... First, I hardly ever read (and enjoy) contemporary romance and second, I am NOT a fan of Survivor - I don’t even watch reality TV. But leave it to Jill to create such a likable book.

This was a free Nook download. I've been wanting to read Myles and this seemed like a good place to start. I'm glad I did. This is an exciting, fast-paced novel I couldn't put down. I devoured it in one sitting.

She's after the book deal she's been promised for being on the show. Dean is there to win. When he gets paired up with Abby, he isn't too thrilled. She's definitely a weak link. But as the days go by and they're forced to work together, a deep attraction blooms between them. And so does an emotional connection.

How well do you know a person after a few weeks on a survival game? Can they work together to win the prize? And what will happen when the show is over?

I'm not a fan of reality tv. I didn't watch survivor when it first came on. I don't watch any of the other reality shows either. So going into this I was a little worried. Turns out I had no reason to be. The pace of the novel is pretty fast. It just zipped right along. Was Survivor this awesome? If so I might have watched it....

Dean and Abby were great together. They got off to a rather rocky start, but it wasn't long before they were on the same side. I liked that they didn't immediately fall into lust with one another. Sure, Dean thought Abby was kind of hot and vice verse, but their mutual hatred trumped any lustful feelings.

Since this is written in the first person from Abby's point of view, it was hard to know sometimes what Dean was feeling. This worked both for and against the story. I think it flowed better coming from one POV, rather than several. The suspense of waiting to see how things played out was edgier, because Abby herself was edgy about it. But it was also frustrating at times. As the reader we could see Abby was headed in the wrong direction on a personal level and we didn't get a break from her thoughts. I actually cringed for her a couple times, something I hate when I'm reading.

As a whole, Abby was a very likable character. She's sarcastic and witty, if a little on the naive side. Dean was a good counterpoint, I think. He was strong and a little cocky in the beginning, but he really opened up as the novel wore on. They were both characters I felt I knew, despite this being written in the first person.

The jumping to conclusions at the end was tiresome, but I loved all the action on the island. And I loved Dean and Abby.

HILARIOUS!

I picked up Wicked Games as more of a joke book. I needed something to fill some time and I really didn’t care what it was.

With that said, the first 35% of this book had me laughing so hard, that the people around me became annoyed. Bully for them!

I enjoyed this unique adult romance novel, but it’s not something I’d read again.

Wicked Games by Jill Myles is set up a lot like Survivor, the reality TV show. The 14 contestants, 7 males and 7 females, compete in groups of two. Every few days one couple is voted off. Abby isn’t the reality show type, but especially not on a survival show. Not given much choice, Abby heads off to the tropics and hopefully lucrative book deals on her experience. Early on Abby realizes that everyone is out to win and all costs. She’s well over her head.

Lord Almighty, the plot holes in this one. She has an engaging writing style and there was angst, which I love in my romance novels. But the HOLES!!!! So many completely nonsensical things! I'm not much of a modern romance reader but as a reality tv fan I thought the plot sounded interesting and as a free kindle book I really didn't have anything to lose if I read the book. Told from the heroine’s POV, we only get some of hero’s brief thoughts at the start of each chapter, not enough to explain how his feelings evolved. But the length did not allow for much so I was ok with that, because the story was very entertaining -until the last quarter, when the heroine’s insecurities, fueled by everybody including the hero’s public words before they met, caused the expected rift. Quick fun read with a cute storyline and some sandy and steamy scenes, a little bit of misunderstanding, but a HEA. Good book to get you prepped for the Summer Olympic games... you'll find out why if you read this.
