I just finished and I have a lot going through my head, so bare with me as I try to work it out into words.

Strange Angels is one of my favorite series. I love all three main characters, Dru, Graves and even Christophe. I love the dark and dirty writing and this last book of the series was excellent. There are certainly things that I will be complaining about in a bit, but as a whole I was pleased with the way the plot was finished.

I have mixed feelings about this book, and am going to (tentatively) give it a 2 star rating until my feelings about this book have solidified more.

The major strength of this series is the characters, and we do get to see everybody grow and change, which was a major plus. The sticking point for me is the ending.

Basically, I'm not sure that this book knew what it wanted to be--like the series as a whole, it jumps back and forth between funny and angsty, romantic and serious. While this can be handled well by some authors, as a reader, it felt like the author (or the publishing company) couldn't decide what kind of book (and series!) they wanted this to be. (less)

Seriously I need this book right now. I am so exited I really want to see what will happen with Dru and Christophe I'm really hoping that they will get togeather and stay together. Another thing I'm really exited to read is when Christophe will see Dru when she is a full svetocha. I also cant wait till we get to read about Dru's full powers and all of the new things that she will be able to do. All in all I cant wait till I can read this book! <3

Ending sucked hard!! I've come to expect this from most of Lilith's book though. We have to beg her for a small short story to really close things up. But if i know her she won't come back to it anytime soon.( it took 3 years for us to get a proper ending for Selene and that still sucked) The character's story is over. They kept me reading and wanting the next one as soon as possible... but this one? I loved up until it started nearing the end. Was I disappointed, I'm not sure. The book had endless adventures. There were some really interesting things we learned about Dru. Lots of questions still that were not answered. New questions added, such as the hexes she saw, the blue and red. I think the love triangle ended fine, but I still think she is a bit hard on Chris. She was honest with Graves but she wasn't honest with Chris completely, only telling him the things holding her back and never telling him the things that she adored about...more Was I disappointed, I'm not sure. We don't get to understand the Anna presence in her head thing, and what happens to a person when they drink blood from another.

I was torn from three stars or four. I really feel that for a series it needs more books. If we don't get more of Dru that's fine but others from other aspects of this world because we don't really get to understand "the world".

I noticed that other readers talked about the repeating, and I get that too but the repeating I hate is stuff we know about already, lets get some explanations for things that are new, not old.

For example, the Hiro nodding thing, I don't really care if she nods back every time, at first it was interesting, but we don't get any more information on Hiro, other then it appears he respects Dru but seems to dislike Chris quite a bit.

The other part of her that we don't understand is the Faulk family touch and what other skills she has. We don't get find any of that out because we are introduced to it as a specialty at the end of the book. Oddly Chris must have known there was something special about her, he had to have because of the odd ways she had defended herself, such as the bathroom attack, but he never talked to her about it. Also, why was she loosing some of her abilities, such as when she was drugged, why couldn't she detect it?

It's hard for me to feel as if this book really did act as the final, maybe a final for the death of the vampire king, but not really for this story about Dru and all the oddities that it contained. I hope there is more, and if not, I hope for the other books series she writes, she doesn't leave so much out of the story.(less)

Okay, the jacket doesn't look like something I'd picture on Dru, but I love this cover! The model is perfect (and yea for having the same girl on all the covers), exactly what I'd picture Dru would look like, and I love the aspect running through her.

7/22/12 - In Reckoning, Dru, Graves and Ash are on the run following their escape from Sergej. Dru has decided to go to the last, safest place she has, even though she knows they won’t be able to stay there forever. She heads to her grandmother’s, now her, house in the South. Once there things actually end up going from bad to worse and the three eventually find themselves on the run again. I really don’t want to give anything else away. A lot of the characters from the previous books eventually pop up and I liked their roles in the book, though I do wish that some of them had had a little more face time, even though I know that the nature of the book, being on the run, etc. didn’t really allow for it. We know there’s going to be a showdown with Sergej, which I thought would be The Dru Show, but it went down a little differently and I really liked it. There were a couple of little twists in the book, which didn’t shock me and I liked the way they eventually came about, as well as more revelations about Dru’s past and her family. I wasn’t expecting some of them and they kind of came out of nowhere, but, again, I liked them. St. Crow also introduces a new type of character into the series, which ends up causing some of the bigger moments in the book.

As with the rest of the books in the series, St. Crow is really descriptive. All the time. Great gulping heaves, tearing through me like a crowd of hobnailed boots against a street, beating out cadence. Overall, I like it, but, for some reason it got on my nerves every once in a while in this one. I don’t know if she did it more, or what, but it did. Having said that, I really like St. Crow’s writing style. Her characters have a lot of depth and I like how she’s not afraid to have them get smacked around, they feel like crap after they’re in a fight or Dru feels like she has to do something like pee when she’s running from the latest threat and has the snot scared out of her. A lot of times characters will be on the run for days and you never hear about them being hungry, dirty, smelly, scared crapless or tired. Despite their supernatural abilities, St. Crow gives most of her characters all of these normal feelings and needs. It’s one of the qualities I’ve always liked about the books, because, despite the abnormal situations, it makes the characters seem realistic.

Even though I really liked most of this book, I hated one part, a big part, of it: the end. Since it’s very spoilery, I’ve hidden it. Though I can cuss like a sailor in person, I tend to not do it in my reviews, so, just a warning, in the spoiler the gloves are off. That’s how pissed I am about one part of the end. (view spoiler)[What the supermotherfucking FUCK?! Okay, I can understand how Dru might not be able to choose between Christophe or Graves right after everything that happened. I also get why Graves would need to leave for a while. Yeah, he’s an idiot for thinking he’s not worthy of Dru, but I see why he’d feel that way. Sergej broke him and he betrayed Dru, even though he fought it and it was unintentional. And the way she treated Christophe?! I thought his attitude towards the wulfen needed a major adjustment (and he did seem to be less jerky to them in this book), but he always helped, protected and went after Dru whenever she needed him. Even after she told him she hated him and believed that he had turned Graves over to his father. He tried to rescue her, got caught and tortured and then volunteered to, and almost did, die to save her. What does she do? Go in and tell him he was creepy and too old for her. She didn’t even freaking thank him!!! Yes, I also thought it was a little icky that he seemed to dig her mom, though he did explain to Dru how differently he felt about her in a previous book. Also, he always spoke his mind, but he didn’t even try to persuade her or explain himself about anything she said, just asked if he had a chance with her. Really? I call bullshit. That was totally out of character for him. When I turned the page after that crapfest with Graves and Christophe (who, after lots of waffling, I wanted her to get together with) I saw an epilogue and thought, okay, St. Crow isn’t going to end a great series so ridiculously. She’s going to take us weeks, months, maybe even a year into the future and see what happened. Wrong!!! It got even worse. Chit chat about maybe shopping with Nat. That’s what the fucking epilogue is about? I don’t think epilogue means what St. Crow thinks it means. I was thrilled that, of the few reviews I read when I finished the book, the words that immediately popped into my head made it to other peoples’ reviews: cop out. What a cop out. I was so disappointed. I know it’s just a book and I kept, no keep, telling myself not to get so pissed about it, but I can feel my blood pressure rising even as I type this. It was like the author couldn’t make a decision or maybe had another deadline and figured to hell with this one, the series is over anyway. I don’t even care if she mulled it over for years and thought it was some super clever, girl power ending. Seriously one of the most disappointing finishes to, not just a book, but a series, in my opinion. The Strange Angels series is one of my favorites, it was so original and addictive, and the abrupt, not-an-ending ending just really took away from all of that for me. (hide spoiler)]. If you don’t want to read the spoiler (which I wouldn’t recommend if you haven’t read the book), suffice it to say that, without the ending, or with a different one, Reckoning would’ve been close to five stars for me, but I had to knock a star off for the ending (I actually think I was being kind by having it be just one) and if I could rate the conclusion apart from the rest of the book, I’d give it no stars. I still love this series and would recommend it to anyone. Dru is one of my favorite heroines ever and Graves, Christophe, the wulfen and Nat are some of the best secondary characters around. However, the last few pages were a huge letdown and left me really disappointed.(less)

I'm going to start this rantview by stating that I love me some Lilith Saintcrow. I love her "Jill Kismet" series. I have hopes for her "Dante Valentine" series. I enjoyed her "Strange Angels" series & while the last three books made me want to smother Dru with my god-sister's Hello Kitty Tiger Pillow, I stuck it out like the book masochist/loyal fan I am. But this? This is WTFsauce with a side of "Bitch, Please!"

If it wasn't bad enough what went down in "Reckoning", a friend links me to Saintcrow's post which pretty much says (to me) that us fans are a bunch of dumbasses for thinking that a part of this series revolves around the love triangle between Dru/Graves/Christophe.

As others have said after reading this book, Cop Out. I debated on whether I should post this but it's been pissing me off since I finished this book & I've been told that ranting is very therapeutic & will aid in keeping you from ending up on Snapped. Or turning into that creepy dude in The Crow. So there you go. I still like Saintcrow (view spoiler) but right now, this series can kick rocks. I haven't been this damn heated since Eugenie took her brain damaged ass to Slutville in daisy dukes & roller skates in Iron Crowned.

Five books. Five books and the only thing we definitely know is that the bad guy got dead. Yes, I did say got dead sue me!

Five books and Dru ends up with a penny, instead of a hundred dollar bill. Readers divided themselves into Team Christophe and Graves only to be left holding the bag with this release and the subsequent decisions by both Graves and Dru. I'm still not 100% about what I think of the ending.
I did think it was realistic that Dru didn't choose 'the one' because she's still only a teenager but the triangle was a huge part of the series and it's just left unresolved so I feel a bit cheated.. unless of course their some spin off books which let us know Dru's future.. but i'm not holding my breath....

Fans will be gasping and applauding certain heart-wrenching scenes.

He scooched around a bit, making himself comfortable. His arm tightened, and my nose ended up in his throat. His leg curled over both of mine, and his free hand came up and stroked my tangled hair.
“The only one,” he murmured. His chin dipped a little bit. “You know that, Dru? You’re the only person who’s ever believed in me. You know what that’ll do to a guy?”
What? “I—”
“It makes him want to live up to it.” A sarcastic, bitter little half-laugh, just like the Goth Boy I used to know. The birdlike one who was a little ugly, sure, until you got to know him and saw what had been under the ugly all along. The true beauty.
Sometimes it hides deep, that truth.

Now, as to the ending … if you’ve been reading the reviews of ‘Reckoning’, you should know that the finale is not necessarily a crowd-pleaser. St Crow is not putting a definitive end on Dru and co. (despite this most certainly being the last instalment in the ‘Strange Angels’ series). Undoubtedly, the open-endedness will annoy some people. But for me, I liked the little bit of mystery that St Crow leaves readers. I think the infinite ending is a bit indicative of Dru’s life so far, and the overall feel of the ‘Strange Angels’. No journey should end on a definitive full stop. The end of ‘Reckoning’ feels like a befitting conclusion for Dru – like she’s still figuring it all out, taking each day as it comes. And that’s okay – because life is an adventure.

I must say that I am very saddened to see the end of the Strange Angels series. I really love Lilith St. Crow’s YA work and like the world that she has created.

I had to actually hunt this book down. I thought it would be released on Kindle however it was only in paperback. Thus, had to hunt a copy down at the local bookstore or risk having to wait to read it. I read it in a few hours. The books in this series are always packed with action and this one this one is no exception.

In the latest installment Dru fully grows into her character. Throughout the series she is strong and independent to a fault. In this book she finally starts to learn to trust others and seek help when she needs it. She does get a lot more emotional in this book as well which might get annoying at times.

There is too much spoiler information in this installment so I will talk vaguely about what I liked in the story. I liked the way that the action is continuous in this book. It is definitely not a book to read if you have other things going on in your life. You will not want to put this book down. There is a lot going on all at once.

I also liked the simplicity of the book. For most of the book it is just Dru, Graves and Christophe. This lets us really see the dynamics between them. There also isn’t five other plot lines going on in the story. Several of the books I have read lately have too many subplots going on. Lilith’s writing is beautiful in its simplicity.

I also liked the flashbacks that happened in the book. Some things that I didn’t get before were finally explained and some plot holes were finally filled in.

I did not care for the ending of the book. Up until the end of the book I loved it. In the last few pages. I didn’t care for the ending. It would be a good ending for a book but as the end of the series I didn’t like it. I felt it was left very unresolved as far as Dru’s story. I realize what the author was trying to do and it is very innovative, however, I didn’t like it. I am sure there are others that will but for me it was too open.

Overall I give the book a 4/5. I loved it up until the last few pages. While I understand why the ending was done that way, I still didn’t like it.
