Having read Paradox - The Angels Are Here, I feel I've been left with a different world view on angels, heaven and spirituality. There is no easy way to sum up the plot, so I shall just say that the story focuses on two elements: one being the war between the different angel houses and how they interact with humans. Some are good, others are evil, and so they fight each other in their quests to become the stronger house. The second part focuses on Grace, a little girl who's gone through a lot in...more

Please note: I read this book in July 2011 from a copy provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Trigger Warning: Sad cat moment!

My Synopsis: Juliette has been around since the world was young – she saw the rise of civilization, and the fall when, after the Great War, so much knowledge was lost. She is here to tell a story – sshhh – let’s listen in.

The story begins in the early 12th century on the planet Altair – which is in the Aquila Constellation – and in the Imperial City of Em...more

I've should have done my homework first!

I was requested to review this book and give a honest review. I noticed it was only a little over one hundred pages, so I figured this will be a quick and fun read.

Ummm, about fifty pages in, I was so utterly confused. There were beings with mystical powers, Angels(??) I think, humans, previous incarnation flashbacks. All seemingly interesting but not composed systematically. I found myself questioning my motivation to finish this book. I had no idea how a...more

When I think of angels, I definitely have never given much thought to evil and controlling ones. Patti Roberts has created a division in the world of angels between the good and the bad and this story shows you how the war between came to be. It becomes a little confusing when the tale jumps ahead 900 years into the life of a little girl, who has the gift of sight. She tragically loses her loving father and has to remain strong for her mom, along with living through flashes of past lives and dea...more

First of all, let me start with the first quote of the book:

"The Definition of Paradox:
A seemingly illogical or self-contradictory statement
or suggestion, that may in fact, be very true."

This is a story that, if you have suffer the lost of a dear one, you will relate with Grace, a little girl, the main character, when she has to deal with a great loss.
And maybe, just maybe, you will relate with her in this: she has an imaginary friend, Hope, a little girl like her that accompanies Grace so she...more

Really liked this book with the especially where Grace had past life flash backs as past life regression and the notion of past lives does interest me. The book is well written though does contain the odd typo error not that it spoils the book at all. The ending leaves you eagerly wanting to read more. The concept of a higher force ie "bad angels being responsible for earthquakes ans tsunamis is a interesting one too. As you will see i read the book in one day as I didn't want to put it down. This book definitely made me think outside the box. I’ve never been a big believe in angels or devils, but I was still touched by the idea of them that the author portrayed in this book. Grace is able to see and communicate with an angel named Hope, who protects Grace. As Grace grows and tragedy happens in her life, the reader sees a huge change in her. Grace goes from a socially awkward loner, to a somewhat happy, talkative young girl with the help of another little girl, Angela. Angela is obvi...more

Paradox - The Angels are Here certainly takes great pains to differentiate itself from the innumerable young adult books out there today that centralize angels and demons. I think the biggest mistake it made, as far as getting that point across that it was novel and (mostly) uncharted territory, resided in the synopsis:

"This is not a story about Vampires."

That rubbed me the wrong way. I am more than fed up with the watered down, glorified, softcore vampires of today's young adult fiction, but I...more

The Angels are here is a very moving story about a little girl who has the power of sight, who is watched over by unseen forces. The same forces who were directed to protect her father. She is the one they seek.

Now, she must face a future with a gift, sight she cannot contol, or even understand--and deep grief, alone, now, with her mother, who is paralyzed with grief when they abruptly lose the one man in their life.

I was deeply moved by this book, griped by her grief, a grief I understand. Pat...more

I liked Paradox. I was torn between 4 and 5 stars, in the end, I decided the quite original plot was worth five stars. The plot is new, it's different, it's something that hasn't been done before. Good angels vs evil angels. I read a lot of paranormal literature, so the paranormal elements were already a plus point. Combine that with the element of the angel houses fighting one another over power and mortals, and it truly made for a great read with a good twist. I found the idea very interesting...more

The world of Angels in which Patti Roberts creates is one of greed, power, sex, control with a bit of conspiracy theory which lays the ground work for the war between good and evil. But who is good and who is evil remains to be seen. Her world of Angels is multi-faceted and for a brief moment I was immersed into their world and presented with very complex and twisted characters and I found myself wanting more. The author has truly created a villain worth reading, he is dark and so very bad that...more

The first thing that I truly liked about it is the style of the writing; it instilled in me the acute sense of being present to something quite wonderful. I, for one, always love the art of the word above the more action-oriented way of writing, but I also know that there are those who value the easier to read style. For me, the writing here scores a lot of points. It’s adequate to tales of angels, demons, gods, and mighty, legendary creatures. I was especially pleased by Patti Robert‘s descript...more

I suggested this book to my daughter, and she picked it up eagerly. When she finished the book, I asked her what she thought and she was fairly candid with her answers. I promised her that I would put them down for her:

She said that the beginning was a little strange, but once she got into the story she really enjoyed it. She said that the writing was good and the plot entertaining. She enjoyed the characters and thought they were developed nicely. She said it was imaginative and a great way to...more

so this book started off really good, I could not put it down. I became really into the main character Grace she was sweet and compelled me to continue reading. However, the author drives you into the story and literally stops you in the middle of the road, I literally spoke outloud like did this book seriously just end. I cant really write a review because I feel like the book isn't finished.....so until book two

Really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read the next.

It's beautifully written with a flowing yet descriptive style. The characters are believable and identifiable yet have hidden depths that you can guess at but have to read more to get the whole picture.

I have mixed feelings about this book.
It's great written, at some point it brings tears in my eyes.
I like the part with Grace, but the parts with Abaddon, Pandora,
The Imperial City of Altair—Aquila I did not like, sorry,
I wished I liked it more ...

When the book was finished, there is a part from book 2, and that was a distasteful beginning.

(Killing the lamb, I don't like killing animals in life or in books)

I'm so so sorry, because I love Patti Roberts.
But I keep on reading, I want to give the...more

My Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Disclaimers: I received a electronic version of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: I went into this book not knowing what to expect. I had heard some good things about this series, but other than that I didn't know much.

This story left me thoroughly intrigued. I was expecting this novel to be similar to all the other paranormal novels I've read. I expected to read this and think to myself have I already read this?

I don’t often read Adult books, its not that I don’t like the genre I just seem to prefer YA. I decided to read Paradox: The Angels Are Here when I talked to the author and was intrigued by the synopsis. It is only a little over a 100 pages so I thought it would be a quick novella, unfortunately it left me feeling confused and asking more questions then I had answers for.

Paradox: The Angels are here begins in the far away past with two families the Grigorians and the Bulguardians that are in a...more

Paradox: The Angels Are Here (Paradox #1) by Patti Roberts

Oh my goodness. The imagery on the first page alone made me want to drop everything I was doing (homework, laundry, dishes, homework, sleep, homework) just to read this immediately! It is a beginning unlike any I have read, and I was immediately drawn in. “A time when magic existed and myths, legends and the gods roamed the planets and walked freely among us.” Oh sigh. To be in those times.

After discovering the mighty characters, you mee...more

I started reading this some while ago but somehow I got interrupted a few times due to some real life issues and got back to it after a long time indeed.
I have to say that it was a very well-written book in the sense that it did not contain any very distracting typos or anything like that and Ms Roberts certainly has a way with words.

Her world building felt very exciting and "complete", exactly because she was able to paint quite a detailed picture with her intricate and elaborate des...more
Better Read Than Dead (Kelly & Kristin)
What do I like second to all things Vampire...all things Angel. Bad or Good. I think we all have one of each residing on our shoulders. Don't you?

Patti Roberts has written a stunning and shocking novella that delves into the age old question of what awaits us after we die. Or more importantly, what guides the events that spins the world. Paradox provides a unique view of Angels and those they protect?!?! As always...let's take a look at these captivating beings:

Abbadon - is an important player...more

The definition of Paradox:

A seemingly illogical or self-contradictory statement or suggestion, that may, in fact, be very true.

As the book opens we are introduced to Abaddon, a handsome man with yellowish eyes, and an extremelly cruel soul and blood that bleeds black, as do all the Grigorians in his family. Siena, his cousin and Theria, his sister. Now we have not yet met his brother Cerebrus who is High Ruler, but he is mentioned quite a bit as Abaddon loathes him and wants everything that is...more

This novel will have the reader at the first page. The reader will enjoy Patti Roberts’ view of guardian angels. The main character, a little girl-Grace, has the power of sight. The very same guardian angels sent to protect her father protect her; her father perishes and leaves the little girl and her mother on their own. Grace conveys her deep sadness and hopelessness to the reader with extreme clarity. The angels watching over young Grace are meant to be “good”, however, there are two factions...more

I'm not sure why but I seem to have a strong love for books with both either the Fae or Angels. I think for the fae it's because there is such an infinite amount of things an author can do with it. For angels however, I think it has more to do with when I was a young girl in Catholic school I was always fascinated with the idea of angels, I even thought I saw one once. So now as an adult seeing authors using these fi...more

Paradox: The Angels are Here, is the first book in the Paradox series by up and coming author, Patti Roberts. In her first book in this series Roberts does a great job of exploring the premise that not all angels are intrinsically good.

When the book begins the two Houses of the Imperial City--the house of Grigorians, led by Cerebrus and the House of the Bulguardians--are in the middle of a war. You get the feeling that the Grigorians are the “bad guys,” (the evil angels), within the first chapte...more

‘A world where there are more questions than answers’ – Patti Roberts writes. A warning to her readers. Or it may be a challenge, a test.
Book one of the Paradox Series, ‘The Angels Are Here’ is an introduction to a world where mortals and supernatural beings coexist, some consciously aware of each other, and most – completely oblivious.
Soon after the opening scene of death and destruction in Altair, the Imperial City, we are introduced to a special child, Grace. Though she is very young – only e...more

I thought I would very much enjoy Paradox since I knew it involved angels and good vs. evil which I usually find very interesting. This book was different than what I expected. The jumping between the different time periods and stories involving Abaddon and his family in their time and Grace 900 years later as well as the visions I'm assuming are had by Grace, left me confused a few times.

The story starts with Juliette who lived 900 years ago and she tells us of how everything has changed throu...more
