Jillian Hunter’s A Bride Unveiled caught my eye because the main couple were once childhood friends, who years later meet again. From then on their passions can’t be contained much like Cathy and Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights. The heroine, Violet comes from an upper-class family in a small town in England. At thirteen she meets Kit, a pauper who lives in a workhouse. For less than a year they become close friends, along with two neighborhood boys. All four are somewhat outcasts and they spen...more

Oh gawd, why. WHYYYYY!

You kinda disappoint me in this one, in fact, your new series, Jillian. I used to adore your book so much with a capital 'A' but sadly, it has downgraded after you have finished your Boscastle family series. I really, really love that series of yours and it was fantastically written!

But I just don't know with this one. Even with the previous book from this series, I encountered the same problem. Now, let me review this book in a simple way; things that I hate AND things t...more

This one didn't have a Boscastle in it, instead fencing master Christopher Fenton who was mention in A Duke's Temptation as Gravehurst's fencing master is the hero.
The heroine is Violet Knowlton the niece of Lord and Lady Ashfield.

Kit (Christopher) and Violet meet as children and two of the local boys join in. They run amuck until Violet catches the measels off of the boys and Kit has to take her home when she's sick and her aunt and uncle put a stop to their friendship.

Kit was a foundling and h...more

Cover/title: Beautiful and caught my attention right away.
Review: I haven’t read the other book in this series but I will now. I loved this book. It was great the way the characters interacted with each other! I was pulled in right away knowing that they were childhood friends and could just feel the tension build...

A sweet romance between two childhood friends that suffered from the unbelievable thoughts and actions of a few of the main characters.

It was nice to read about a main male character who wasn’t nobility, especially a duke. It was nice to see a character that came from nothing and make something of himself. I really did like Kit. He was a great character, although he certainly wasn’t as bad as he made himself out to be. Violet was nice enough I suppose although she didn’t have too much fire to he...more

The first two chapters of Ms. Hunter’s A Bride Unveiled are terrific. Violet Knowlton is thirteen and growing up in the sleepy English town of Monk’s Huntley. She has three friends: her awkwardly engaging neighbor Eldie, pompous local heir Ambrose, and dashing pauper Kit. The four, under the non-watchful eye of Violet’s young governess — she’s being led astray by the bricklayer’s feckless son — bond despite their social differences. Violet, an orphan being raised by an overprotective aunt and un...more

This love story was totally different, don't get me wrong I liked it but I didn't love it. The part of the story that I liked is that love starts with friendship and if that friend leaves a mark on her life that that friend stays in her memory forever. And maybe one day you would end up marrying your best friend but also the love of your life! The part of the story I did'nt like is that I wanted Kit and violet to get to know one another more because by the third chapter Kit was sold and taken aw...more

Hunter took an interesting path for a historical novel, showing the characters as childhood friends with all the dynamics that come with it. With a tone reminiscent of Frances Hogson Burnett, the young characters enchanted me. When they met again as adults, I was already half in love with Kit from his childhood persona and easily saw how Violet would find the dashing adult version irresistible. A great love story, full of interesting secondary characters and lovely prose.

It is hard for me to believe that the same author wrote "Duke's Temptation" and this book. I gave five stars to the former, but the latter barely passed. The writing lacked depth to me and read like a fairy tale. I know Romance novels always have a happy ending, but this one read like Cinderella. The fencing sub-theme of this book dominated the story. The story was actually told at the beginning and the end. The in-between seemed to be a fencing exhibition. I did like the characters, but was dis...more

This was a cute little story. The thing I liked most about this book, is that the main characters both loved each other and had no problem admitting it. They didn't try to hide it from each other and they didn't try to fight their feelings or deny them for some reason. They loved each other and owned their feelings. There were other obstacles in their way of course but they worked towards finding a way around those obstacles instead of denying their feelings for one another, like most characters...more

What would a Cherry pie be without the cherries? A hot fudge sundae without the hot fudge?

A romance novel without the romance? What happens to anything when an ingredient is missing? When there's something wrong and you can't quite put your finger on it? When something like this happens, usually you can't finish it. There is something bland about it. It's incomplete; you are disappointed that your expectations are not met.

Well, that's what happened for me with A Bride Unveiled. The story started...more

Violet and Kit have been friends since they were younger. Her a young lady and him a pauper. Life comes between them however when he gets sold and she stays in Monk's Huntley. Ten years later they are reunited, him a swordsman and her engaged to another man. Will they let an unwanted engagement stop the attraction the feel for each other, or will they finally get the happy ever after they've wanted for the past ten year.

As a girl, Violet Knowlton used to sneak out with her friends to fence with tombstones in an old, ruined churchyard.

She knew her aunt and uncle would be horrified if they knew, but there was something in her that just couldn’t be the prim and proper girl her guardians wanted her to be. She also knew they had a secret—and it was about her.

One of her friends, Kit, lived in a workhouse. It was ruinous for children of her standing to know paupers, but Violet and her more privileged friends idolized...more

The basic summary has shades of Wuthering Heights to it, but there's no brooding, no abuse, no tormenting of secondary characters simply because they can. Kit and Violet are both charming, primarily cheerful characters who make sensible decisions and who actually communicate with each other. Kit tells Violet up front and early on that he doesn't want to be her dirty little secret, he wants her to make a decision between himself and her fiancé and she takes this seriously. When she does make her...more

A charming romance, with a little mystery. The two stories, one of children playing and then, their adult romance make for wonderful comparisons. The children make a stronger, better impression than the adult version, which sometimes seems a bit contrived. Both of the main characters, Kit and Violet, are wonderfully drawn, seem like flesh-and-blood, but a bit too perfect to type, they both need a quirk or two, to feel real.

The plot is excellent, the fencing descriptions exuberant.

First book read from this author - I am interested in reading more. I enjoyed the meeting as children/reuniting as adults premise. I also liked that Kit was not the typical formulatic man-whore romantic hero. Still, I would've liked to see more interactions between the main characters, more heat/sexual tension, and more of a conflict besides "if we are together it will upset my aunt."
Overall a quick, lighthearted read that did not require emotional investment.

Smack in the middle of reading this book, I enjoyed it so much I thought I would go ahead and rate this. Jillian Hunter is a fabulous author who catches the essence of the characters in such a way, you can't help but fall in love. Kit has already become a favorite of mine, trying to protect Violet, and being such a good man with such deep thoughts, and caring so much about his friends, even with his less than easy upbringing. Simply put--I adore this book.

The backstory of them as children was so endearing. Usually, I like the love/hate lots of sexual tension romances but this one was different. The Hero and Heroine had a strong history together and didn't play games or try to hide their feelings. It was so wonderful how excited the Hero was to be reunited with her after all that time! They were both sweet people you were happy to see found one another again. Great read.

I saw this and picked it up honestly because I loved the cover. It turned out to be pretty good. I finished it in three hours. It wasn't something i would reread but that doesn't say much since i usually don't reread anything. It was a very good romance, and I thought the writing was correct with it's time period. I'll definitely be reading more of Jillian Hunter's books (:

I read this book and really enjoyed the beginning. However, about two-thirds of the way through, I lost interest.

The ending felt tacked on to ensure that the book was the desired length and did nothing to enhance the story for me. I was excited to find a "new to me" author. However, after the reading the book, not so much.

Not terrible just not good.

The story was too complicated too early for me right now. I liked the intro of the characters, but there were too many plot twists before page 50, and i read these for relaxation (ie: i don't mind thinking a bit, but i don't wanna think too hard... give me the fairy tale simplicity but with dialogue) Maybe i will finish it another day, but right now, i cant finish it.

It was ok...thank God i got it from the library and didn't pay good money on it though!A definite pass..don't bother reading.Too many holes in the story and felt rushed through. The only thing that kept me reading the story was Kit the hero, but just barely!

The writing was awful, at times I didn't know who was speaking, or the author was commenting on things that were unclear...but it was a good idea for a plot. I've seen this done SO much better by other authors, however.

I enjoyed the book. It was a fast fun read, but I did feel something was missing. Maybe it was the sexual chemistry. And I couldn't understand the euphoria over fencing.

This is a cute story. Childhood friends are separated for 10 years, meet, and fall in love. I do hope to see a book about Violet's friend, Eldbert.

While this novel seemed to start off a little slowly, I finally caught onto the the plot and enjoyed it. There is a lot of sword fighting in the novel which may or may not be of interest to people. This is a sweet story of two lonely people drawn to one another as children. They lose contact for 10 years yet come together again. The heroine is engaged at that time but they both soon realize they have always loved one another and are able to find that elusive happiness.

This book was just too much- too many different plot devices and characters thrown together. They did not mesh into a compelling story.

I have no idea why it is called A Bride Unveiled.

Also, this lady was way more into showing than telling.

Stupid H/h, and oh my god the sequel bait that is the secondary characters. I am so TIRED OF SEQUEL BAIT.
