Duele el sol en la cuidad de Mexico. The sun hurts in Mexico City.

Poetry always suffers in translation but Pacheco's bite comes through in English too. My favorite poem was "Walter Benjamin Leaves Paris (1940)," but I overall prefered the second part of this book "I Watch the Earth." I winced in pain more than once reading this. As Ciudad de la memoria in Spanish it's an ironically touching sequence of poems, tinged with humor and proposing perceptive insights into daily life, love, politics.
