people who think they can't get into poetry
Ever since I accidentally stumbled upon the YA novel "Habibi," Naomi Shihab Nye has been a favorite writer of mine. Her poetry is very prose-like, and full of truth. This is from the poem "Brushing Lives":

How can you have so much life rushing by you and have time to consider it in such a new and thoughtful way. This is a GREAT book. I love her poems about family & I love that she has the outsider's view. She doesn't have that visible outsider edge - don't get me wrong - I love the edge, but it's cool to be an outsider who seems to just be coming from such a kind place.

Beautiful poems. There's a certain "quietness" to her poetry-- as if the words can only be heard in a hushed tone.
