Eye Contact (The Conditioned #1)
by
Rebecca Royce (Goodreads Author)
Thirty years ago, after the breakdown of an oil negotiation, the President of the United States decided that all people born with unusual abilities, which he would now refer to as “the condition”, would be locked away from the general public where they couldn't harm others. Parents and loved ones of these people, most of whom were children, were forced to turn them in upon...more

Going into this book, all I knew was that it was a paranormal romance and not much else. So as I got into it, I was surprised how good it was! It's not the cliche paranormal with vampires and werewolves, but one where people have special powers and are hated by society. It reminded me so much of x-men, but with more romance and less fighting (which is awesome because I love x-men and romance). The thing I loved most about this book, though, was Spencer. He was viewed as "the bad boy" on the outs...more
Eye Contact was gripping and totally addictive. I loved the chemistry between Addison and Spencer is awesome. I loved them! This book reminds me of X-men, which I also loved. My favorite part is learning about all the different "conditions" or powers that the various people have. The more unique, the better! People with powers are called the conditioned in Eye Contact and they are treated like a mixture of slaves and lepers. It's awful! But the ending really sets up the plot for the next book. A...more
Spencer has accepted that he is Conditioned and he will forever be treated differently than normal people. He has wants for simple things that most people take for granted, but he knows that he can never have them so why bother tempting himself with them?
Temptation comes in the form of Addison Wade who has a few secrets of her own and needs to find her nephew and she'll do anything to find him. Including hiring Spencer who is the best at locating people. Together they discover more than just si...more

In Eye Contact, Rebecca Royce takes us on a thrilling ride filled in equal parts with heart-pounding intrigue and the softness of a growing, Cinderella-style love. Here, in Royce’s rendition of Earth, those whose genetics grant them extrasensory powers are termed “Conditioned” and confined to compounds, and are only allowed outside to help those who can pay for their special abilities. Enter heiress Addison Wade, a young woman who defies her family to seek the special assistance of the Condition...more
Addison Wade was born into a rich, influential family and one day she will take her grandfather's place in running the family company and take his seat on a committee that keeps the 'Conditioned' locked away from society. Spencer Lewis is one of the 'Conditioned' who has the ability to travel into dark spaces in his mind to locate missing people. His abilities though are less threatening than many of the people locked away with him in the institution.

This book was a really neat twist on the concept of a romance novel, because it brought in a supernatural element that made the story around the steaminess really captivating. It felt like X-Men turned into an NC-17 movie,
Addison has hidden her Condition her entire life. Born into an incredibly wealthy and powerful family, she knows her life depends on no one finding out what she is. Her father taught her how to keep it under control so that no one would find out she was one of "t...more

I really enjoyed Eye Contact. Ms. Royce has created an interesting world where people who are born with special abilities are called Conditioned. It reminded me of the X-Men, except the Conditioned have been kept away from society. They aren't even thought of as human. They have no rights at all. Spencer Lewis is one of the special Conditioned who is let out occasionally to use his special ability to find lost people. Addison Wade hires him to find her kidnapped nephew.

If you’ve read her The Outsiders series, that I absolutely love, The Conditioned has some similarities as they’re both paranormal series, but the fantasy element is just as strong. The Outsiders are unknown to the world, even though they’re the only thing that can stop the Earth from being destroyed by a demon. Now The Conditioned just want to fight for their rights as people since they’re considered freaks and dangerous by the population and sent to a compound made by the government and control...more
Loved this book. It was so much more than just a romance. It also dealt with powerful, corrupt organizations; discrimination; and people's knee-jerk reaction to the unknown. I found the characters had real depth and their reactions organic. And I loved the writing. Not that that was a surprise to me, I've found the same stellar caliber of writing in the other works I've read by Ms. Royce. I will be getting the next book in this series :)
A Recommended Read. Ms. Royce excels at bringing her characters to life, even the secondary characters…which I have to assume will each have their own story at some point…are brilliantly executed. You really feel as if you’ve moved into the world of The Conditioned right from the start. To read the rest of this review, please visit http://www.blackravensreviews.com/?p=...
Brilliant. That is the only word to describe this book. Rebecca Royce has created the most intriguing world in this book, it draws you in and you start to believe it's real. She has once again proved she is outstanding when it comes to world-building. Mix that talent with strong characters, a sexy hero and heroine, you've got everything you could possibly want in a book.
It was sweet, sexy, heart wrenching, enraging and action-packed.
I can't wait for more in this series!

This is an amazingly fast-paced, grab-onto-your-throat-and-never-let-you-go experience and one that I’d willingly indulge in again. To view this review in its entirety, please visit http://thereadersroundtable.com/paran...
Personally, I loved this book. Yes it is different from most of the books I have read. I loved the chemistry between Spencer and Addison but I did hope that Roman and Spencer would kinds start behaving like brothers by the end of the book, but their is always the next book to look forward too. :)
Fantastic book! I am hooked, so looking forward to reading more about the conditioned.
I found this book purely by chance and so glad I did. After reading the synopsis, I downloaded the sample chapters and starting reading, after a reading the sample, I quickly purchased it!
I’ve read some of the others reviews comparing it to X-Men, I can see some similarities. I love the X-Men, so this was a plus to me. I look forward to reading the next book.
