I loved this book. To the detriment of everything else in my life, I could not put this book down. I frequently read Emily Yoffe's "Human Guinea Pig" column on Slate.com and always found her to be quite funny. When I learned she'd written a book about her dog I couldn't wait to read it and, indeed, I found What the Dog Did to be as witty and engaging as her columns. I laughed out loud often while reading it. Anyone who has read and loved Marley and Me should read this boo...more

Like the author, I was a cat person who ended up with a beagle because a member of my family wanted one so much. So I could identify her in that respect. There were moments that were laugh-out-loud hilarious and the book was an enjoyable read. However, I have to say that Marley and Me was a far superior dog memoir.

The first half of this book is "pee your pants" funny. I did like most of it. It tended to wind on a bit towards the end. She built up the funny in the begining then leaves you hanging in the end. I wish she had stayed with the funny theme throughout. Still a fun book

This is a book that any dog lover will enjoy. The major downside to dog books for me is that there is almost always really sad parts in them, but not with this one.

I liked that the author talked about other people's dogs so that I didn't get bored with her story.

I am only 50 pages into this book and I woke up this morning excited to read it. I love it.

Final review is that this book did two things for me: it buoyed me up from a depression that was setting in proudly like a Cavalry Stetson, and it made me miss my puppy.

I started reading Emily Yoffe on Slate.com and her stories are always funny and interesting. This book is no exception. As soon as I finished it, I handed it off to my mom who handed it off to one of her friends.

While I do not own a dog, Emily Yoffe is one of my favorite writers on Slate.com. She does the Human Guinea Pig column and Dear Prudence. Fun to read even if you don't have pets.

This books makes me happy that I am not the only one having a hard time housebreaking my dog! And that even professional dog trainers have problem dogs! :)

Funny light read. A real life story about a writer on "Slate.com" deciding (forced by daughter) to get a dog. Quite a few laugh out loud moments.

I really like this lady, I read her columns on slate all the time, but this book kind of dragged for me. I ended up liking it ok in the end...

My mom gave this book to me after my dog Dixie died earlier this year. I laughed and cried throughout.

If you are not a dog lover, then skip this book. It is funny, sad and ironic.

Fairly cute for dog-lovers. Not earth-shaking, but a fun, easy read.
