Incredibly sweet story written by a mother of six which reminds all parents to treasure each moment we spend with our children. As parents, we are usually so good about recording 'firsts', i.e., first tooth, step, word, grade, soccer goal, car, etc., but we often forget to notice 'lasts': last bottle, nap, bouquet of dandelions, sticky kiss, bed-time story, camp-out . . . all those little joys of childhood which are what make being a mother--or a father--the best job in the world and are over...more

Let Me Hold You Longer is the thoughts of a Mom as she watches her little boy grow and thinks ahead to the future. It's sweet and a little bit sappy, too. The illustrations are simply adorable and may even bring a tear to you eye as you read.

While it is a lovely book, I think the Mother may enjoy it more than the child. However, it's written in poem and an enjoyable read no matter what. I personally think it is a good bedtime story since it has a more somber and calming tone to i...more

Get your tissues when you read this. I started crying on the second page. (I'm so sentimental.) It's a sweet little picture book written from a mother to her son. She thinks about all the time she spends during his life looking for his "firsts": first word, first day of school, first day on the team. And then she realizes that along the way she has missed a lot of his "lasts": last time he came to her bed in the night to sleep, last page he colored for her, last time he aske...more

This book is more for the adults then for the kids. I can't read it with out crying. Heard the author read/recite this book at a conference and there was not a dry eye in the place. If only we, parents or grandparents, knew when the last time is that we do a certain something with the special gift the God gave us. Would we treasure it a little more? In saying this, I will treasure every single minute that I am with my grandchildren. Even when they need to be disciplined. You may never have that ...more

OK, yes I know this is a children's book, but this was a gift from my Aunt Wese and she said she automatically thought of me and Scott when she read this book in the store and I would agree. Actually, I would say any mother should read this book - especially mothers of young children to help them remember the lasts as much as the firsts (read the book and you will understand this). May God continue to bless all the mothers out there.

This has to be one of my top ten picture books. I got this book when Nicole was little and potty training, after reading it my whole attitude changed. Reading this book helped me to realize that while we are busy celebrating all the firsts in the life of our children, the lasts are just around the corner. It is so important that we hold them a little longer, well at least as long as they'll let us.

This is a great book taking you through your child's growing up years, helping you not rush them, for those of us whos children are grown lets us remember the joy. I cried the first time I read it as my oldest was about to graduate from high school. A great message.

Bought this for my son when he was 1 - he LOVES the book and wanted us to read it every night, though it took me a while before I could do it without crying! A great book about a parent's love and how quickly a son grows up...

Sweet book that is a tear jerker for any mom who knows her kids are growing up too fast. It is a good reminder to savor each day and the time with our children because their "lasts" come all to quickly!

Man, this book just gets me every time. It's a wonderful reminder to hold on to every precious moment and appreciate it. I haven't gotten through the book yet without crying!

This book is a tear-jerker! Took me back down memory lane... Good book to let young readers know how moms view them and each new phase of their lives as truly special!

Every mother should read and own this book. It puts it all in perspective rather than focusing us on the daily grind.

Very good! I don't have young children, but I'm a Karen Kingsbury fan. This is a book about "lasts", rather than a child's firsts. It was reflective and a bit heartbreaking because my last child is entering his last year in grade school. :(

Recommends it for: EVERYONE!!!!!!!!
I'm not a mushy person - I rarely cry. And I don't really like the feely-good stories (like on sounds of sunday). But I read this to Ellie today and she kept saying, "Mom, quit crying!"

I love this book because it gives perspective. If I read it every day I would have much more patience as a mother. In fact I think I'm going to buy it -- and I want to buy copies for all the parents and grandparents I know!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

To my knowledge this is the only picture book that Karen Kingsbury has written. It is actually extracted from one of her novels. The poem is lovely and is very tender to a mother's love for her child. I think the book is really adult book and not as much a book for children.

I know it's a kid book, but if you have kids (especially boys) this book will really touch your heart. It makes me wonder if I am really paying attention to my kids as they grow instead of just going on autopilot and waiting for certain stages to pass.

Alex loves this book, even though I told him it made me cry. I think my mom was trying to torture me with this book. It a total heart-string tugger / tear jerker. Good read, but make sure you've got kleenex or you sleeve handy.

This children's book is so cute! I can't even read it to my boys yet because I tear up just flipping through it--and I *don't* CRY! (For those of you who know me well) So worth it or give as a gift--
