Alex Tanner is a male nurse who divides his time between his job and his television schedule. His idea of the perfect partner, like so many other people’s, is a tall, dark, and handsome man. Preferably alive and breathing. Surely that’s not asking too much? Then an uninvited guest—a ghost, of all things—forces Alex to question what he’s always looked for in a lover and his...more

What an unexpectedly awesome book. It's a good thing I'm off work, because I stayed up 'til the wee hours of the morning to finish it. It tells the story of Alex, a nurse, who one day just has a random ghost show up in his flat. Why the ghost appears only to him is never explained; there's no metaphysical discussion, no spiritual reasoning. And I didn't even care, even though that sort of omission usually bugs me. This book was so charming and sweet. But not, like, diabetic-coma-inducing sweet;...more

I absolutely loved this book, but I have to say up front that I'm disappointed in the cover (even though it was the very thing that drew me to this book). It's very misleading. The core message of the story was one of inner beauty, and the main character was described as not having ripped abs but an average physique. I still can't figure out that picture. With that being said...

Wow! What a wonderful story. Alex was just absolutely sweet and adorable, and of course I loved Sid. I'll admit that I...more

Loved this one!
Alex is a nurse, single and not exactly happy but when he comes home one evening to relax and watch a series, he sees and unexpected guest on his couch who offer's his opinion on the series.

What happened afterwards was pretty funny and Alex has quite a considerate ghost in his flat. Who is dressed in a Ghostbuster T-shirt and bunny slipers, yup that set me of again!

It's not all fun and light, on one place I nearly cried, farwell scenes or generally when the character's have to say...more

One guy who loves Pride and Prejudice, one guy/ghost who has a three-legged, one-eared, tailless cat. Sweet. (view spoiler)[After Sid woke up he didn't remember his ghost-time :( Well, at least he still loves Alex :) (hide spoiler)]

This was such a lovely little story.

Unexpectedly touching and well-written, ‘The Ghost on My Couch’ was one of those novellas that you wish didn’t have to end. Not only because it was a sweet if clichéd storyline, but because the author did a really wonderful job of creating loveable and well-rounded characters. Alex, a male nurse with not much of a social life and the personal kryptonite of being attracted to only “beautiful” men, was such an easy character to read about. His reaction to having...more

What a sweet gem of a book! This is the tale of a romance between a nice guy, Alex, and a ghost, Sid, who appears in Alex' apartment one day. Over the course of three weeks to a month, the relationship between Alex and his ghost-friend intensifies: it gets to the point that Alex thinks about Sid all day at his job as a nurse, and is grateful to be able to go home to hear his ghost's sexy voice and tell him about his day.

Over the course of several days, Sid starts to feel the pull of the white l...more

This story is a sweet, well-written account of a ghost who teaches a young man with superficial tastes in dates to look beyond the surface at the man inside. It has a real charm, and will draw you in to the world of the MC and the ghost only he can see. The plot is fairly obvious, but the smoothness of the narrative carries the story along. I took off a star for one aspect of the ending that annoyed me.

(view spoiler)[ I really hated that Alex didn't tell Sid about his days as a ghost. Sure, it...more

Is it possible to fall in love with a ghost? That’s the question Alex is asking himself after a lonely ghost shows up late one evening. Though they may share a taste for certain TV shows, Alex is torn between thinking he’s crazy and wanting to comfort the sad apparition. As feelings and a sense of closeness grow between the two, Alex starts to wonder just how he’s going to handle being in love with a ghost. As always, it’s never as ea...more

The Ghost on My Couch is incredibly sweet, entertaining, and romantic. It’s a near pitch perfect romance that’s sure to please fans. The characters are utterly adorable with just enough geekiness in them to appeal, but enough chemistry to sizzle. The premise should be tired – the ghost and the living fall in love – yet the great humor, whimsy, touching emotion, and sheer entertainment factor make this something funny and adorable. You won’t want to miss this.

The story starts with male nurse Ale...more

Stories involving ghosts normally aren't really something that would interest me, but others had rated it highly so I went ahead and bought it. Awwwww, what a great story. Of course, I was reading it while a rerun of Wallander was on PBS in the background so there was that strange juxtaposition of stark, Swedish countryside and murder and Kenneth Branagh brooding....and a sweet story of a British guy and the ghost with whom he falls in love. A refreshing change was having Alex and Sid as two nor...more

This is my third read by this author and I can safely say that I’m a declared fan of her writing.
The one thing I loved most about the story was that, although the subject was so far fetched( ghosts - snort) she managed to make it so real. I was really surprised. With how I managed to buy every single thing that I was reading. I absolutely loved Alex and I was completely blown away by how average a guy he was. And I don’t say this in a bad way. L.A. Gilbert manages to portray in her characters an...more

I really loved this book. These are the kind of ghost stories I reaally like.
Alex has had a hard day at work and when he settles down to watch a show on TV, he is in for a surprise. He is not alone. Next to him is a big man in a ghostbusters t-shirt and bunny slippers. A guy who can go and hide in the refrigerator.

I like how the relationship between Alex and Sid the ghost develops, that they both (although especially Alex)are forced to step out of their normal routines and boundaries. I...more

The Ghost on my Couch is a gem. The highly entertaining e-novella is about a stuck-in-a-rut gay male nurse (Alex), who is not the most handsome or virile male around, and a ghost...the one who suddenly appears on his couch. Sid, the ghost, is also not the usual buff and hunky male-model type. What a refreshing change to read about real people..or...er...ghosts. Anyway, after the major shock of finding a ghost in his apartment, Alex gets to know and like Sid. Before long the two are looking forwa...more

Alex is a male nurse. He works at the hospital and then he comes home to his couch and tv. His last boyfriend still comes around at times for some casual sex and he hangs out with his straight friends as often as he can, but he's not the really social type and hasn’t met a man he likes in a long time. Then one night as he's lounging on his couch watching the latest episode of Grey's Anatomy, a ghost appears in the seat next to him. After the initial shock has subsided Alex starts to get to know...more

I finished this in one sitting and could quite happily sit and read it all over again. I guessed the outcome but that didn't matter because overall its just a joy. Its funny, poignant, sweet, witty, tender, emotional and romantic. There is practically no sex but its still brimming with chemistry and a gentle but palpable ST between Alex and Sid, There is a lovely sensuality about the story so you don't miss the usual love scenes at all. In fact it was actually better for not having them and I'm...more

Another recommendation, and another winner, 5 stars from me

I'm not going to do an elaborate review. This was such a sweet and charming tale, Alex and Sid (shame about the name though) were absolutely perfect for each other....Alex because he was having no joy at finding the perfect man, just an ex that wanted to use him for sex, and Sid, well, I felt desperately sorry for him, he was such a gentle giant and definitely deserved someone special...luckily he found him in Alex. I loved that Alex, as...more

I really enjoyed this story about a male nurse, Alex, who finds himself living with a ghost. Sid magically appears in Alex's apartment knowing he's a ghost and that he's died, but unsure of why he's in limbo. Alex just wants to know why this ghost chose his apartment to dwell in. Sid and Alex develop a sweet friendship that will make you want to root for them. They are both attracted to one another, but understand that, realistically, nothing can ever happen.

I felt an array of emotions while rea...more

I read this book about a year and a half ago, but I couldn't remember it that well. I am so glad I reread it. Alex and Sid are perfect for each other and I loved how their relationship was completely based on friendship. There was no sex in this book and I was glad for that because I think it would have taken away from the sweetness of the book. The side characters were wonderful as well. I loved the interaction between Alex and Andy. Also, you have to love a character that loves Black Adder. :D...more

Alex is a nurse. Most days he ended up covered in various bodily fluids.
After one really bad day he comes home showers and sits down to watch tv. Alex is talking to the tv when a voice makes a comment.

OMG there is a stranger on his couch!! Alex freaks throws a few things at the stranger, who says he's a ghost, then runs out the door to his friends place. (We all know the friend wont find anything)

The ghost was named Sid and was an accountant when he was alive. Sid talks Alex in to going to his...more

Well, this book had a lot to comete with. Like Alex in this book, I was the last one without an iphone, until yesterday and I discovered angry birds. But I managed to tear myself away long enough to finish.

This story is set in Londan. Alex, a nurse comes home one day and meets Sid, the ghost of man, sitting in his couch. These two lonely but lovable men lay the basis for a wonderful relationship despite the fact that they both know that they are one borrowed time. (view spoiler)[My problem with...more

This time 3 stars are exactly what they’re supposed to be – I liked it. Nothing more, nothing less.
The reason I picked it up was this “a male nurse comes home and finds a ghost on his couch”. Sounds familiar? Well, if you’ve watched “Just Like Heaven” – definitely. I’m a big fan of the movie and okay, I don’t mind such things (cause if we have to be honest, this a complete rip off) as long as they make me happy, okay?

But…there was nothing special...more

ok, so I really liked the book up until the last chapter and until I got to the epilogue.

I was in the middle of enjoying myself immensely and then *wham* I got hit by the HEA out of the left field without realizing it and the book was done. huh? where's the rest? that can't be all? I kept switching pages, thinking I had skipped a chapter or pages were missing or whatever. because the huge step between last chapter and epilogue didn't make any sense at all, it felt like the author got bored to w...more

This is a 4.5 result really.

I was a tiny bit dissatisfied with the end, but on the overall this was a feel-good book of the finest variety and I will read more from this author. It's not just fluff either, because there are some serious insights coming along in a very charming manner and it has the singlemost enchanting cat-character I've read in a long time!

(view spoiler)[My sole beef was that Alex didn't tell Sid what happened. I think it would have been a better book if that had taken place....more

Alex was an under paid nurse in a hospital. He dragged home most days, took a shower and settled in to watch the TV shows he recorded. He turned on Grey's Anatomy and spoke out loud had McDreamy should be gay. A voice out of nowhere told him he actually preferred George. An argument began until Alex took notice he was arguing with a man sitting on the other end of his couch. Actually, he was speaking to Sid, who was a ghost on his couch.

So, the story is based around Alex and Sid and how they fel...more

I sacrificed several hours of sleep last night to finish this, and I don't regret it one bit. Once I started reading this little gem, there was no way I could say goodbye to the characters a moment before I had to. This short novel is funny, angsty, and adorable without ever stepping over the line into sappy. Sid is definitely the most endearing ghost ever, and Alex, who initially struck me as shallow, managed to completely charm me by the end of the book.

This book is laugh-out-loud funny in so...more

This book was an easy and fun read, but it had too many faults for me to take it very seriously. It seemed more like a story that would be found on a fan fiction site.

My main issues with this book were:
...it was never explained why Sid haunted Alex's apartment or why, if Alex left, he would disappear.
...The characters fell in love within a week
...The ending was predictable (I guessed it before I even reached the second chapter)
...it was short, rushed and not greatly written.

Would not recommend...more

Half a star subtracted because I figured out the "plot" early on in the story. JCP did a ghost that way in one of her PsyCop stories. Well, that's what happens when you read too much, you're bound to find books with similarities.

The book was a really good read though. The humor smoothed out the angsty parts and it had that warm and fuzzy feeling I adore all the way through it. I laughed a lot. I can never open my fridge again without getting the giggles!

It was absolutely worth bumping...more
