What makes Darren Shan's books a great read is that even though they're over 200 pages long, I can easily finish them. The action within this book is very quick and there's always something new for you to read. The ending for me was a little shocking, but the way that Darren Shan writes makes you want to read the next book. The Vampire's Assistant is the 2nd book in a series of seven books. After reading the Dreamcatcher which was over 800 pages long this was an easy read and very quick. For man...more

This book was quite gruesome but I liked it all the same. It is about The Vampires Assistant (Darren Shan) returning to the Cirque Du Freak with his guide Mr Crepsley (he was the one who turned him into a half-vampire). The difficult bit in the book comes when Darren Shan realises that he cannot stick to his humanity because he has to drink blood to survive. And he can't play with normal kids because he has powers and he might hurt them. So the whole book is about this struggle. Now I am reading...more

Second book in the Cirque du Freak series.
Darren agreed to become a half-vampire and to work as an assistant to Mr. Crepsley, a vampire, in order to save his friend's life. Basically a nice guy, Darren is revolted by the idea of feeding on human blood. He gradually learns to accept his life as a half-vampire, but draws the line at drinking human blood.

The book I read was Cirque De Freak Vampires Assistant, by Darren Shan. It was a great book for all readers, but mostly for a little more expierienced readers. It also is for horror or action readers.

Y me alegr...more

These books are pretty messed up, even if the majority of the audience probably disagrees. They're, in simple terms, the story of a teenage boy who is forced to experience a lot of horrible things in order to save the life of his best friend.

This book was better. The action at the end was pretty cool, even though it was really short. Kinda sad too, but I remembered when I read it in the past, it was a lot sadder. I think the emotional part of it should have been elaborated on a little more in order to have truly brought out the sadness of that scene. And the fact that he had no choice but to drink that particular person's blood should have, to me at least, be more deep?
But then again, this is a kids book and hence it wouldn't be so...more

A decent follow-up in the series, albeit a little predictable. As soon as he befriended RV, the passionate eco-warrior, you pretty much know where the story is headed. I was disturbed by the ending though not repulsed, I've read gorier scenes. The fact that the ending stirred some emotions in me made me think that Shan is up to something good with this series.

The vampires assistant is for anyone who loves a good thriller that will keep you up all night with wonder and exitement. Darren shan proves that he is the best horror writer in the world and always will be. This fast paced story will turn its pages quicker than the human eye and this is why.

Today, while sitting in the Jury room of the Los Angeles Country Civil Courthouse, cattycorner from the Disney Concert Hall (which I love more and more)I finished the 12th book of "The Cirque du Freak" series and this entry will suffice for the series. I was impressed, frankly at the depth of despair expressed in these books. The best that can be hoped for is that people as individuals might live good lives, but our culture, our planet, all are doomed to change into a poisoned planet ruled by dr...more

Darren is beginning to cope with life as a vampire's assistant though he still refuses to drink human blood and hates his companion, Mr. Crepsley, for turning him into a half vampire which has led him to faking his own death. This is about the second book in the Cirque du Freak Series. This book is called “The Vampire’s Assistant”, by Darren Shan. This is a sequel to his first book so if you want to read it, then it is probably wise to read his first book of the series.

Well, this is the second book in the Cirque Du Freak books, and I liked this more than the first, but felt, that the first was better. This book follows Darren Shan, who was turned into a half vampire in the last book. He has to follow his Master Mr. Crepsley back to the Cirque Du Freak. My feelings about this book are mixed, and I'm going to use this review to say wha I'm feeling about the third book, which I am reading, Tunnels of Blood. I feel that the books in this series have been getting p...more
This book kept me up all night. Although it was on the paranormal side (and I'm pretty sick of this genre after the Twilight craze), but at least it's more adventurous than romantic (oh yeah! So my type!)

In this book, the main character, Darren Shan, is a vampire's assisstant. This means that he is only a half-vampire. He has only some powers full vampires have and he only ages 5 years slower than a human, while a full vampire ages 10 years slower than a human. One of the benefits that half-vampires have that full vampires don't is that they can move around in the day. Darren is a young boy of only about 13 years old. He is one of the youngest half-vampires ever and when he joins a circus full o...more
For those of you seeking this book out because you enjoyed the movie, you should try to come in to this series with an open mind. I, like so many of you picked this book up because I enjoyed the movie, and when I found that the movie was based off a book I was stoked. I couldn't wait to dive in to the pages. I for one am a firm believer that when ever I book is made in to a movie it loses so much of the story line that the movie will never ever do the book justice. That theory rings very true fo...more

Dan orang-orang seperti RV , apa yang dilakukan dianggap sebagai orang-orang barbar yang tolol. In this novel, the second in the series he tells his story of living as a vampires assistant. His memoirs are interesting but also mysterious stories about living as a half vampire half human.
