This was indeed a very interesting story, a fresh approach at a compilation of stories. I liked it quite a bit and would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants a quick read with lots to offer via horror, thriller, mystery and dark fiction.
First we come upon Doug Pinkham, a reporter on his way to a mental hospital to interview Dr. Martin regarding some visits a recently deceased man had made. On the way his car breaks down, and he decides to walk, or run, the rest of the way. It’s already...more

Intricate Entanglement by Su Halfwerk
My thoughts on Intricate Entanglement by Su Halfwerk. I have given Su the title of Queen of the truly Demented and Deranged. She certainly did not disappoint me with this book. You can compare it to a anthology that is written by several different authors but no these all came from one mind. It begins when a reporter named Doug who goes to Equanimity Psychiatric Hospital for the criminally insane to do a story. He is there in response to the death of a Detect...more

Intricate Entanglement is quite unique, unsettling novella that contains several short stories.
It tells the story of a reporter - Doug Pinkham - who travels to an eerie and secluded psychiatric institution, in order to investigate a murder that has taken place. As he spends time there, he eventually begins hearing stories surrounding the details of why certain patients have been detained there at the psychiatric unit. These short stories make up the vast majority of the book, but within each ch...more

Intricate Entanglement tells the story of Doug Pinkham, a reporter who visits a lunatic asylum while investigating a mysterious murder and gets more than he bargained for.
When I first read the blurb for Intricate Entanglement, I was intrigued by the idea that this reporter would hear seven stories told by the patients in the asylum and I do love a good short story collection. This novel was more than just a collection of short stories, it was a series of stories within a story. As Doug is led a...more

At first I thought this was going to be a collection of short stories but am happy to say it's much more than that. Although it involves a series of astonishing 'case studies', these are all interwoven and linked to the central frame in a clever way, allowing us to feel a sense of the story's progression.
The reporter, Doug, is assigned to the story of the strange death of a detective, which takes him to Equanimity Psychiatric Hospital for the Criminally Insane to interview one of the doctors. W...more

An abused maid who sought revenge on her employer and got much more than she bargained for. A doctor who discovered his appetite for flesh was more than a metaphor. A woman who found being a certain artist's model drained her of life. These are just three of the patients being kept in a remote psychiatric institution where reporter Doug Pinkham has gone to investigate a murder. During the course of his investigation, he will hear their stories and others, and will find there is more going on at...more

A fascinating collection of horror stories all woven together under the premise of another story. Well-written and a must read for anyone who likes a little suspense mixed with some frightening stories.

Su Halfwerk writes both horror and paranormal romance. From a tender age, the written word left a strong impression on Su. Later on, terrifying, blood chilling books became the object of her interest. Somehow, in her mind, the blossoming of romance in the midst of that mix was only natural.
