Demonized (The Ethan Banning Files #2)
by
Naomi Clark (Goodreads Author)
PI Ethan Banning is smoking too much, sleeping too little, and hearing voices. One voice, to be exact: the voice of the demon that possessed him on his last case. A voice that urges him to hurt, rape, kill, and Ethan doesn't think he has the strength to ignore it much longer.

P.I. Ethan Banning used to have a simple life; find people’s missing dogs, spy on cheating spouses, appease the odd morgue-haunting ghost. But his last case opened the door to a world he’d rather not know exists, and he just can’t get his life back to normal. He’s got a demon riding shotgun in his brain, a missing-persons case that’s turned into a murder investigation, and a mangy dog that might be the only thing keepi...more

In Demonized Ethan is dealing with what happened to him during his time in Shoregrave with Yasmin Stoker. You know when the story opens with a dead hooker in a bathtub full of ice that this isn’t an ordinary story!!
Ethan is battling a sort of demon possession from the cacodaemon who jumped in him in Afterlife. Yasmin just couldn’t remove it completely. And worse yet, this demon is a sick psycho of a demon, filling Ethan’s mind with horrible images and basically declaring war on him for the most...more

I have to give a brief disclaimer at the start of this review & say that while this novella can stand on its own for the most part, to fully understand everything that is going on here you'd have to have read Afterlife. That's where Banning gets his demon (singular, not plural) from & parts of the novella have him speaking to the main character of Yasmine.
Overall this was a pretty good tale. There's a decent mystery here & Clark does a great job of making you guess as to 'whodunit' f...more

A missing persons case for private investigator Ethan Banning soon turns into a serial killer search. Why are organs being cut out? What's it got to do with a gentlemen's club? And will Ethan manage to get the Voice - a cacodaemon - out of his system before he does something even he'll regret?

Ethan Banning is back and on the verge of a psychotic break. We first saw him as a side-character in Afterlife , reviewed here, first of the Shoregrave series. The Demonized novella can be considered a loose sequel, as it take place not long after the events of Afterlife and Ethan is now dealing with the aftermath of those events.
Hoping for a return to normalcy and leave the supernatural world behind, Ethan is back in his city doing his usual PI work. He'...more

This is nice spin on urban fantasy/horror by Naomi Clark.
Ethan Banning is suffering from a nasty case of possession while investigating the murder of a client's fiancé.
The pacing throughout the book is fast and doesn't let up; I ended up unable to put this down until I reached the end.
This is not a very long book, but it holds your attention all the way to the end. I'll be hunting down the rest of this authors work as a priority.

I reviewed this book for Hellnotes and basically, if you liked your urban fantasy straight up and hard-boiled, if you like male PIs a la Harry Dresden, and if you want good writing with snappy dialogue and a delightfully bad cacodemon, look no further than Naomi Clark's second book in her series, "Demonized." Definitely one to check out! For my full review, go here: http://hellnotes.com/demonized-book-r...
LOVED this novella! I LOL'd so many times that I lost count, and I completely fell in love with the main character, Ethan Banning. I've read Clark's short stories revolving around Ethan but I really had no idea how awful the Voice was to him and what he has to endure. It's probably a good idea to read Afterlife beforehand (which I didn't, but I will soon!) although it isn't a requirement. Ethan's voice was distinct, hilarious, and just fantastic--probably one of the best I've read. The murder pl...more
'Demonized' tells Ethan's story after he was possessed by a demon in 'Afterlife'.
I really wanted to know more about the consequences of the fact and I am happy that Naomi Clark wrote this novella.
Part of the demon that possessed Ethan remained inside and now is speaking to him demanding attention.
He feeds on pain and constantly tries to make Ethan more violent.
In this novella, Ethan is trying to free himself from the demon and finding the murderer of some hookers. To make matters worse, there is...more

At first glance, Ethan Banning might strike you as the typical PI down on his luck, smoking like a chimney, drinks more than a fish, and handles sleazy cases.
Think again!
The man has a resident psycho within him, one that loves what Ethan despises.
The book has many characters that are easy to engage with and feel for. My favorite is Mutt.
I couldn't put the book down, and If you decide to read it, I don't think you'll be able either. Every page has a new twist and a fresh discovery.

Naomi Clark lives in Cambridge and is a mild-mannered office worker by day, but a slightly crazed writer by night. She has a perfectly healthy obsession with giant sea creatures and a preference for vodka-based cocktails. When she's not writing, Naomi is probably either reading or watching 80s cartoon shows, and sometimes she manages to do all three at once.
