I had no idea what I would go through when I opened this book for the first time, new business? not my cup of tea, I was wrong, after reading such a compelling story, Netscape, the Internet and other companies started making sense to me, not to the point of becoming a new start-up but understanding the origin of these megacompanies; the book is hilariously funny but serious when the facts demand it. Glad I read it, well done, Lewis!

Over the top Tom Wolfe-like profile of Netscape founder Jim Clark, one of the first Silicon Valley billionaires. Sometimes, Lewis's enthusiasm bordered on cliche, or -- at least -- seriously unsupportable arguments. But, hey, it was an entertaining portrait of the original Internet boom and the man responsible for some monumentally large waves of money breaking through the world markets.

"Everything in Silicon Valley, including the people, was built so that no one would find it tragic, or even a little bit sad, when it was destroyed and replaced by something new. It was one great nostalgia-prevention device. It ensured that the greatest wealth-producing machine in world history was never gummed by pointless emotions."

Another absorbing book about business by Michael Lewis. This time he writes about the founder of NetScape and his (then) new business, mycfo.com, an online weath management business, and the huge yacht that he builds and sails. The summary doesn't capture how interesting this book is, unfortunately.

"The story of Jim Clark and Silicon Graphics, Netscape and Heathleon by the author of LiarŐs Poker, with the same irreverent but insightful style. I didnŐt find it as entertaining as the Wall Street story, but maybe because these Silicon Valley people are not so strange to me!"

I'd consider this to be Lewis' worst work. I had trouble identifying with Jim Clark, the book's subject. Still, it remains a Michael Lewis book, so the writing is great.

does a good job of capturing the mood of silicon valley in the late nineties. jim clark's yacht, admittedly cool, is discussed perhaps too much.

another really good account of the high tech VC game and how dot-coms were born and what it took to make them successful.

A real page-turner, a whirling journey into Jim Clark's (of Silicon Graphics and Netscape fame) hyper-speed world.

I really like this as an overview of the Web1.0 bubble and also as an peak into Jim Clark's life and career.
